Off-Topic Mambo Vulnerabilities & Patches
On the Mambo CMS site there are vulnerabilities found. Whilst this is not a CentOS problem, people rent/deploy servers (CentOS) on the net with Mambo. A guy in one of the user forums on the net, had his Mambo 4.5.2 server hacked and they installed some interesting stuff in /tmp . When a server is hacked it gives bad PR for the underlying OS. <----announcement on

OT: Polycom BootRom 3.1.3 and vsftpd 2.0.3 WARNING!!!
Hello everyone, Please forgive the exclamation points but I have been battling this one off and on for about four days now. Sorry for the cross post. It all started with a box of IP 501s. I contacted my reseller and obtained the latest BootRom and SIP firmware. Unzipped, configured, copied over to my FTP server (running AstLinux, of course). The phone booted, so far so good. Updated

Help! Zap echo on bridged calls
I've been going nuts lately trying to get rid of an annoying echo problem that makes my asterisk server unusable when clients try to call me. Here's the breakdown of the issue - Hoping that someone can throw me a clue: My setup is as such: Single AMD Athon machine with X100P clone card and voip through multiple providers . * Inbound calls through the X100P that do not bridge to

Asterisk native sounds now available!
Hello everyone, As I promised at eTel last week, I have finished up work on my "Asterisk Native Sounds" project. Here's a little diddy from astlinux.org: ----------------------------------- Asterisk Native Sounds are a collection of audio prompts for Asterisk. They will improve quality, reduce CPU usage, reduce latency, and (in some cases) eliminate the need for G729

How hard to create Asterisk for Compact Flash?
I am aware of Astlinux and the other embedded Asterisk solutions out there? Astlinux is nice but the problem is that when I hit a snag and need to incorporate a patch and what not I cannot do that with Astlinux because I cannot compile my own version. How hard is it to create my own version of Linux/Asterisk to run on Compact Flash. I have seen 1GB Sandisk CF for as low as $50 recently so small

SixTel?
I was just checking out the dids for all of my fail over providers and noticed that neither DID that I have with SixTel work. Both pause for a long long time The local number gives a recording: 'The number you have dialed is not in service or is assigned in a different area code. Please check your number and dial again'. The 800 number just rings busy. Anyone else having this issue or

flash plugin
How do I get a flash plugin to work with firefox? I thought that I installed it correctly, but I have yet to see any flash videos through firefox. I keep being told that I need an additional plugin. When I folow directions, I'm told I already have it? At least once, I was told I needed to upgrade. In case it helps, here is the output of yum provides '*flash*' | grep -e lash -e dobe

Basic Linux Advice
I have an old broken laptop that I am attempting to turn into a mostly solid state Asterisk box, mainly because I am worried about the fans or hard drive in my other Asterisk box failing (I already lost one power supply). The laptop has no screen or hard drive. But it does have USB and a bootable CD-ROM drive. It is a Pentium 233, with 64 MB of RAM. I have a PCMCIA ethernet card in it. I

Failover question
The registry's are stored in DB. Just export your database with 'database show' Schedule it with cron to run every 5 minutes or so. You can do that with -rx command line switch for asterisk. Send the file across to other node and pipe it through awk/perl/cut or whatever you like and import it when you bring the other node up. You will have to stop and start asterisk I think. I

Pictures of the Digium booth at ISPCon 2005
Hello everyone, Even though a lot of it was a bit last minute, several of us from the commnunity made it to Baltimore to help Digium with their booth at ISPCon. It was a great time. Gregory Boehnlein, Brian Capouch, Christian Savinovich, Kristian Kielhofner (me), and John Todd (not pictured) were there (as well as others), and some pictures were taken (the up close ones of me were very

Open Source Content Management System - Joomla
There was some discussion in the past about which one is the best Content Management System that can be used in conjunction with Asterisk. Mambo was supposed to be the best out there under GPL. The guys who developed Mambo have a new product now - Joomla. I am using this and it appears to be better than Mambo in many respects. Read the gist about Joomla below. ------------- If you've read

AstLinux WebSite Problem
FYI Kristian. http://www.astlinux.org/ Unable to connect to database server This either means that the username and password information in your settings.php file is incorrect or we can't contact the MySQL database server. This could mean your hosting provider's database server is down. The MySQL error was: Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket

PSTN->voip/sip echo
I'm still relatively a novice with asterisk and am having issues with echo. The calling party that calls a PSTN number doesnt hear the echo, but the answered side via sip or forwarded to another PSTN number over voip hears excessive echo that makes it difficult to communicate. I've been playing with the zapata.conf settings for echocancel, echotraining, rxgain, txgain, etc and am
