Best way to connect analog modem
Hello Asterisk fans, I try to connect an analog modem to Asterisk. The modems are connected e.g. to alarm systems or a cash terminals (POS). As PSTN-Interface I'm using a Wildcard TE110P (E1). Is it possible to connect the modems to an ATA? Which ATA I should use for that scenarios? Cheers Bastian ____________ Virus checked by G DATA AntiVirusKit Version: AVK 17.1806 from 04.01.2007 Virus

Clarification on Fax capability?
Wondering if someone (Steve?) can clarify something form me. I think the recent "soho fax solution?" thread has mixed things up for me. - Is it possible to get reliable fax reception using a Zaptel FXO interface connected to a standard POTS line and a fax machine connected to station interface? - Is it possible to reliably send outboud faxes in the reverse direction?

FXS Solutions for modems and other non jitter tolerant devices
In the past we have used Adtran Atlas 550's to break out FXS ports for devices like modems. The great thing about the 550 is that internally it is all TDM so there is absolutely zero latency. We are able to use ATA's for faxes and analog phones but devices that use modems, they fail 99.99% of the time when using an ATA. We tried to migrate to TA908 devices; they have FXS ports built

Configure DAHDI with TDM410 for analog Modem calls
Hello, I am currently trying to configure an Asterisk (current 1.4) box with a TDM410P and 2 FXS as well as 2FXO modules. An analog modem is directly connected to the TDM (port 4) which itself is directly connected to the PSTN (port 1). [V.34 Modem]-----[TDM on Ast. 1.4 TDM]---PSTN When I try to establish an analog modem connection with this setup, the modem is unable to connect to the remote

USB modem on centos
I am playing with a USR (us robotics) USB modem model 5637. in the past I used internal modems and had no issues. One this unit I plugged it in, dmesg says its recogized. I did "ln -s /dev/ttyACM0 /dev/ttyS4" this works. I then did "cu -l /dev/ttyS4" type "AT" and I get OK... looking good. When I "ATDT my number" I get a connection at 1200 baud (which I

Modem Calls
My office is investigating using an Asterisk PBX and also going to a VOIP provider for our main phone connections, but one of the tricky things is that we need to have outbound and inbound modem calls (fax too). I see a lot of talk about faxes but no mention of modems on this list. I get the impression that modems will be a problem for us. Is that true?

GSM modems
Hi all, I am interested in interfacing a GSM modem to *. I've seen a few comments about doing this, but I'm not clear whether people have actually made it work. I've used GSM modems for various data jobs, mostly high volume SMS (no, not nasty marketing stuff - high volume solicited SMS :-) ) . These only have analogue ports for voice. Does anyone know of units with digital voice

T.38 fax summary
Steve Underwood, Would you mind summarizing where/how T.38 functions, and maybe how it compares to the analog fax environment for the asterisk-users arhives? Seems to be some misunderstanding, and a lot of interest in handling faxes in various forms via asterisk. If some these approaches were summarized in one posting, a lot of us could reference it to remind us of limitations, current state,

Incoming calls through SS7 for data modem transmissions - possible??
Hello, We are working on implementing a solution for a medium service provider. They were previously using a Cisco AS5300 gateway with some PRI trunks to receive modem calls, then route them out the Internet. The Telco they were buying the trunks to discovered this configuration and restricted them due to legal conventions, and stated that in order to continue doing this, they would have to talk

PCI modems
Hi all, I'm currently searching for a PCI modem that will be used to receive faxes. I've tried out a few modems but they all use conexant chipsets, which need out-of-tree kernel drivers and currently doesn't work here (kernel oops when the installation script modprobes the driver). Does anyone know of a PCI modem that works out of the box with in-tree kernel drivers? Thanks,

Slightly OT and mildly insane: Modems through VoIP :-))
Hi, First off, let me state that _YES, I am fully aware that what I am doing is insane, prone to major havoc and bad for general health_ :-)) Scenario: My GF needs an analog modem to use with her banking software (sodding backs don't supply a decent web-application for company use). I am experimenting to see if we can get it to work (albeit slow) trough our ATA186 talking g711 to

USB Modem with asterisk
I can use a USB modem with asterisk to connect to the PSTN network right? It'll serve the same functionality as an FXO card? Also, any idea if I can get these modems with mutiple ports (12 or 24)? Re: Newbie Questions - Grandstorm phones?
Thanks everyone for the input. After pricing everything we need out, it's not worth trying to get our old system to work, so I've pitched ditching everything and starting over. I'm very excited and hoping they'll go for it. Regardless, I'm going to throw a box together for my house, we have no home phone (just cell phones) so this'll be a great way of testing. All

Using Modems with Asterisk
Has anyone had any experience using a modem through the Asterisk system? I have some technical support personnel that need to use a computer modem to connect to a remote system for troubleshooting. Is there a SIP compliant gateway that will support a modem connection at decent speeds (minimum of 28.8) that anyone knows of? If not, has anyone used a Digium FXS card for this? Thanks

Virtual Modems
After searching the archives, I came acrross a few people mentioning this, but I never saw anything about what became of it. Has anyone tried to make a virtual modem that could be directly handled by astrisk, I saw a while ago that someone was going to try and make one using the same DSP libaries that the WinModems use, but then nothing. Would do this even be possible, and if so, what kind of

Adding an MT9234ZBA-USB modem to CentOS6.3
How, exactly, does CentOS-6.3 with udev recognize an USB modem when it is plugged in. How is it indicated? What other configuration is required? I can find the modem in /sys/class/tty and I can get the attributes using udevadm but I do not see anything in ps that refers to the modem device. -- *** E-Mail is NOT a SECURE channel *** James B. ATA's
Hi, Has anyone had any luck using modems on ata's other than with Cisco ATA-188's? I really don't have the money pay for the 188's as this is for my personal use.
