Asterisk<>X100P<>Packet8
Noob here, my apologies in advance.
Recently my employer decide to stop paying for my home POTS line, so
I ordered packet8 for a home line instead of another POTS line, since
I really dislike my local phone company, and the POTS line without
any long distance would cost more than the $20 to packet8 with
unlimited US calling.
Anyway, this whole thing got me started thinking about VOIP a lot

Packet8 New Area Codes and Rate Centers
I received a message from Packet8 last night telling me they added some
new area codes. I took a look at their new area code/rate center finder
page and it looks like the added a LOT of new area codes. They now have
phone numbers available in almost every state.
The URL for finding out which area codes and rate centers are available
with Packet8 is at http://www.packet8.net/about/areacodes.asp

Review: Packet8's DTA310
**** DRAFT **** DRAFT **** DRAFT **** DRAFT ****
I've been using the DTA310 from Packet8.net for a couple of
weeks. The DTA310 is about $130 without the Packet8.net VoIP
service. It only supports SIP.
On the back of the DTA310 is a power connector (power supply is
provided with the product), a 10/100 Ethernet port, an FXS port,
and a reset button. The front of the device has LEDs for

fax over IP - http/ftp-provisioning - intercom
Dear members of the list,
a customer of mine has some questions and I would like to pose some of
them further to you guys.
What is the situation with Asterisk and fax over IP ? Can Asterisk
receive a fax over a POTS or ISDN line ?? Do I then need a Digium
TDM-card and an FXO-module or a T38-gateway ?
What phones should I use to automatically configure them from a central
place via HTTP or FTP ?

VoIP service through Asterisk?
Greetings. I did some digging with Google, the wiki, and on the
archives, but didn't find a recent conclusive answer. If this is
answered in the wiki or archives somewhere, please point me to it.
I'm in the process of setting up an Asterisk box for home use. I've got
a X100P card on the way. I've not decided what analog adapter(s) to get
yet. The only phone service to hook up

Hardware requirements question.
I have a Dell PowerEdge 4300 server with dual Zenon 550 MHz processors,
SCSI controller with four 9MB drives and 1 GB of RAM. I want to develop
an asterisk pbx with 4 POTS lines in and 16 analog extensions (no VOIP).
I also will install a sound card for an intercom. Is this hardware
sufficient if using a Digium TDM2400P?

"skipping" / dropped audio, high-pitched squeal on X100P channels..
This is driving me nuts. Any help appreciated.
I have a couple of annoying problems in my Asterisk box, and I'll be
dipped if I can figure them out. The box in question is an Asterisk
CVS-05/03/04 (1.0) checkout, using the Zaptel drivers of the same
vintage from CVS. There are two X100P cards, and one TDM400P with a
single FXS module. The machine is an Athlon 2400XP CPU, Debian

The phone service is offline as well.

Enchance Me 1.004 Released!
Today I released Enhance Me 1.004 for AMP 1.10 and Asterisk @ Home 2.2.
These utilities allow for speed dialing, a revised version which uses AMP to
store speed dial numbers and NAMES so that only operators of the web
interface can add and delete speed dials. Data is stored in mysql instead
of Asterisks' DB. This stops the waste of the 300 series extension numbers.

outgoing calls with packet8 and dta310 problems
I'm trying to get asterisk working w/ packet8 (incoming and outgoing)
and a dta310 so I can have more control over voicemail. I've looked
at the data stream coming from the dta310 and from packet8, but I
haven't managed to get the phone to actually place invites through
asterisk. On the asterisk end with chan_oss.so, I can make it dial
and I hear ringing and the first second of

Newbie just starting out with *
Hey all...I'm brand new to * and I want to convert my home into a pbx
type setup. I've figured out that I want a Wildcard X100P to bring my
single POTS CO into my Linux box. My problem is that I'm sure sure what
I need to do to get my analog phones connected up into a structured
phone system. It *looks* like I can go the route of the Cisco Analog ->
VOIP for about $100 on ebay.

Packet8 integration into Asterisk?
Hi John,
I've been using Packet8 via a physical ATA and XP100 card for some time.
As far as I know it is not possible to connect to the Packet8 service
without the ATA.
If this is not the case I would be very interested to hear this.
In addition since moving to the USA I now only have a single packet8
line into my asterisk box (I used to have this and a 2nd regular pstn
line)
I used to be

On-Hook ADSI
Hello list,
I have reason to believe that ADSI can be spoken to phones even when
they're onhook. Is this true? Does anyone know?
Right now, I'm having trouble figuring out how to do anything to an
onhook channel other than ring it. Does this require a magic
application and some serious voodoo? Any pointers?
I got onto this idea because I noticed that whenever I got voice mail on

OT: Can I use a SIPURA with Packet8?
I have packet8 and I have spent many hours on the phone with them.
If someone has found away around there DTA configuration I would like to
know so I can bring it in house to my * box. But as far as your
question is concerned. No. Not that I know of. They wouldn't give me
any information about the configs.

Great concept but a few issues unresolved
The past week or so I have been experimenting with Asterisk and overall
find it to be a nice software suite, although I have encountered some
problems, and have found almost no documentation (For example in
sip.conf I needed the commands fromuser= and fromdomain= and only
figured out this was possible after spending a few hours browsing on the
internet and reviewing some person's configuration

Where did my DID's go??
Okay, first a little background - I've been with Packet8 since a month
after they started. I found that we were outgrowing their services
and decided to move to an asterisk box in the office. I found a
service provider that offered me a reasonable rate. After a fair
ammount of testing I decided to stick with their services and port my
3 primary DID's from Packet8 to the new service.
