Logwatch reporting spamassassin messages as unmatched entries
I've recently switched to using spamassassin via a sendmail milter,
rather than using procmail to invoke it. This means that I get a number
of messages appearing in my maillog, and then being reported by logwatch
as unmatched entries.
An example of such a messages is:

[Feature Request] delete defined line in known_hosts file
Hi,
for a test lab, I'm trying to write a small shell script that will
eradicate all information regarding a special host from the
known_hosts file. Unfortunately, it is quite non-trivial to find out
what ssh doesn't like with a host.
ssh says which line in known_hosts has the offending key, but
ssh-keygen -R doesn't take a line number. Am I using an undocumented
interface when I

logcheck vs auditd
Hello,
I was just looking into parsing some various logs to get notified when my
application is not behaving correctly. Logcheck seems like the right tool
but then I also notice auditd which is another log monitoring/reporting
tool. Can someone explain if these two tools serve similar purposes or do
they each have a different purpose? I've done a bit of reading but figure

Aggregating logs from numerous FreeBSD machines
Hi folks,
My stack of trusty FreeBSD servers always seems to be growing, and it's
getting to the point where the daily and security output mail is too much to
make good use of. I'm looking for suggestions for log monitoring and
aggregation tools, especially from a monitoring-for-security perspective.
If I had to imagine an ideal system, it would be a central server that

OSTs inactive on one client (only)
Hi everyone,
I have seen this question here before, but without a very
satisfactory answer. One of our half a dozen clients has
lost access to a set of OSTs:

Add lines to xy plot with temporal x axis
Hi. I'm trying to add some vertical lines to an xyplot in which x axis is a
temporal variable (class=dates) and y axis a factor variable.
This is my code:
xyplot(factor(Abacus$Emisor)~Abacus$Dia,xlab="Date", ylab="Fish",pch=124,
scales=list(x=list(format="%b %Y",tick.number=30))
, panel=function(...){
panel.xyplot(...)

})

Apparent bug in logwatch's reporting of number of email by sendmail
# rpm -q sendmail logwatch
sendmail-8.13.8-8.1.el5_7
logwatch-7.3-10.el5
One host sends just one email per day, the daily logwatch report.
Here's /var/log/maillog entries from yesterday (hostnames are changed to
make designations in this conversation more intuitive):

Bug#295560: logcheck: Please include filename when reporting "invalid regular expression"
Package: logcheck
Version: 1.2.34
Severity: wishlist
I have a couple of home-made logcheck ignore files, and happened to
have one unescaped (and unmatched) `(' in one of the filter
lines. Because of this, cron sent a mail with the body "grep: Invalid
regular expression" - the subject is the command in the "2 * * * *"
line in /etc/cron.d/logcheck, of course.
It would be

Shorewall 1.3.5
This will be the last Shorewall release for a while as I''m going to be
focusing on Documentation.
In this release:
1. Empty and invalid source and destination qualifiers are now detected
in the rules file. It is a good idea to use the ''shorewall check''
command before you issue a ''shorewall restart'' command be be sure
that you don''t

logwatch reporting
I just launched a new mailserver that is using dovecot. My previous
mailserver used courier-mail. I am expecting better things with this
new server, but I was use to some login information in logwatch that I
am not seeing now. For example I would get:

Bug in yum Logwatch reporting
I've been noticing yum updates on several servers I manage over the
last few weeks, which I know I didn't perform and could not explain
until this morning. At first I suspect a break-in, but found no other
evidence or reason an intruder would run the yum updates I was
viewing.
Yum updates are logged in /var/log/yum.log, which is what Logwatch
scans. Seems that the format of the log

Abacus DOS problem Lock Selector
A lawyer in California is trying to change to linux. In CA, there are a
number of programs required by the courts, and so far none are ported to
linux at any price. His reason for wishing to change has to do with the
fact that Microsoft now controls his access to his own files, and he finds
this unacceptable.
I tried one of his apps, an old DOS version of Abacus. Using the WINe with

New Program: Abacus Sentry - Port Scan Detector
Hello,
I just made available a beta version of a port scan detector that I''ve
been working on. The program, called Abacus Sentry, is a port scan/probe
detector that offers what I think are a number of unique and useful
features:
- Runs on TCP or UDP sockets. Configurable by the user to bind to
multiples of sockets for increased detection coverage.
- Adjustable scan detection value with

Samba + Abacus Law anyone?
I'm attempting to install Abacus Law (v13) under Samba and Linux. Install
completes, and I get as far as a single user successfully logged in, but
the 2nd user is nothing but trouble. Samba logs show nothing unusual to my
semi-trained eye, but locking code or timing is a likely suspect. Technical
support is of no help as they haven't tested (and therefore don't support)
