OT mod_security
Hi guys,
I've planning out my upgrade to CentOS4 and one of my plans for security
is to impliment the mod_security apache module to filter out unwanted
malicious intent.
Not having used it before, I wanted to see if anyone here has
implimented it and did it block any legit traffic or cause resource
traffic/serious slowdowns of their systems?
I've asked on the forum about secure

Netfilter API -Kylix
Dear Friends,
Does anyone know any kylix source which use netfilter
API?
what about some "simple" C examples?
(I have seen libiptq man page ;) )
I want to write a program (with kylix if it is
possible)to monitor the traffic of an IP address and
whenever its credit is over (which will be calculated
againts the traffic) simply reject any traffic to/from
that IP, any idea or clue ?
Thanks

OT: Powered by CentOS
Hi guys,
I was wondering if there was any powered by CentOS logo's available for
use on websites that are 'powered by CentOS'
Sorta like this mandrake one:
http://htmlfixit.com/icons/medbutton.png
Always a good idea to promote the cause so to speak and once I've
ugpraded my web server I'll be changing the icon and if there isn't a
CentOS version, I'll have a go at

VSFTP/MySQL
Hi guys,
Just a quick question, I've been slowly moving all my user services to
mysql backend, I realise it's probably not as good a choice as LDAP, but
you tend to stick with what you know.
To that end I want to setup both Apache and VSFTP to use mysql db for
virtual users. Basically I want to create virtual users that are locked
into their own home dir and have apache use mysql to

CentOS Firewall can handle multi IP?
Hi guys,
Just a quick question.
Can RHEL4/CentOS built in firewall handle multiple IP's bound to one
interface?
For example on one of my boxes out there I have 64 IP's bound to an
interface used in virtual hosting.
I searched long and hard for a easy and useable solution without much
success. I ended up rolling my own, but it's a hack.
Was wondering if CentOS has any answers for

Serial ATA hardware raid.
Hi everyone,
I'm looking into setting up a SATA hardware raid, probably 5 to use with
CentOS 4. I chose hardware raid over software mostly because I like the
fact that the raid is transparent to the OS.
Does anyone know of any SATA controllers that are well tested for this
sort of usage?
From what I can tell from googling, this is more or less where RHEL stands:

local port redirect not working on Centos4
Hello,
I want to redirect one local port to another. I am using the following:
iptables -t nat -A PREROUTING -p tcp --dport 7003 -j REDIRECT --to-ports 80
and testing it by telneting to localhost on port 7003. It works on
Centos3, not on Centos4.
No luck with this either:
iptables -t nat -A PREROUTING -p tcp --dport 7002 -j DNAT --to 127.0.0.1:80
Am I doing something wrong? Or did something

Moving LVM from one machine to another
My CentOS4 machine died (CPU cooler failure, causing CPU to die).
In this machine I had 5 Tbyte disks in a RAID5, and LVM structures
on that.
Now I've moved those 5 disks onto a CentOS5 machine and the RAID array
is being rebuilt. However the LVM structures weren't detected at boot
time. I was able to "vgscan" and 'vgchange -a y' to bring the volume
online and then

CentOS4 laptop touchpad erratic operation
I've just put up CentOS4 on my HP ze4630us laptop, and the
installation produced only two problems of note, both related to X
operations.
1. The installer refused to allow 1024x768 resoultion for the screen.
After install, manually setting the resolution in xorg.conf was no
problem.
2. Erratic touchpad operation. This unit has a synaptic touchpad. I've
also noted similar problems on my

Runing win32 Delphi applications with wine ?
Hello list reader,
Did people succed in trying to run Delphi applications with wine ???
Well, if they didn't work we can always try to use kylix to get them work.
But I suspect that we will have to go with lot of rewriting because of the
type of these applications : graphical intensive ones.
Any ideas about that ?
Thanks !

Heartbeat and mount --bind for NFS v4.
Hi all.
This is probably more of a HA list, or possibly even linux-practices,
question but all hosts concerned are running CentOS and I reckon some
of you guys might have some good suggestions. Feel free to tell me to
piss off. :)
I'm building a new CentOS, DRBD, Heartbeat and NFS HA cluster. We
already have boxes running similar setups on FC2/3 running NFS v2/3
with the Ultra Monkey

Update csgfs without breaking things
Now that the csgfs repo has been updated to support the new kernel, I'm
looking at doing updates again. I just want to do it without breaking
things (if possible). I can handle doing a bit of trial and error, but I
figure that if you guys can point out any obvious pitfalls, that can save me
quite a bit of time.
I'm looking at doing the following install/update:

X-Windows client for MS-Win2K
An intermittent need to connect to a CentOS4 development box from a
MS-Win2K workstation using X-Windows has developed here. However,
I cannot seem to find a cheap (read free) X-windows client for MS-
Windows to accommodate this. This seems very odd to me, displaying
no doubt my profound ignorance of the issues involved. The few
shareware versions that I have located expect registration

Does sprof work on CentOS5?
No matter how I try, I can't seem to get a library profile from sprof on
CentOS5.
Does anyone know if sprof actually works on CentOS5? I'd be very
interested to hear if anyone is using it successfully.
At the moment I'm trying something like this to get the dump:
LD_LIBRARY_PATH=. LD_PROFILE=libmy.so ./mymain
where libmy.so is the library I want to profile, and mymain is the

automounted filesystem appears empty on first reference
I have an odd automount problem. The first time I look in an automounted
filesystem (when the mount is requested), it is empty; the second time
it is not. Moreover, I only see this behavior on Centos 4.x systems, but
not on Centos 5.0 systems going to the same fileserver. Here's an
example, with some details simplified to clarify. In this example,
fileserver1 is exporting fs1.

SMS Alert Script - Voice e-mail
Hello,
I have come up with a php script that I believe should be able to send sms
alerts to cell phones as specified. I have added an option under the
extension account settings (am using Asterisk@home 0.6) successfully.
I would like to embed this script into the various specific configuration
files so that it performs it function. I have looked at the conf files
under /var/www/html/admin, which
