yum & proxy
Hi, I've just installed a server with CentOS 4. This server is behind a proxy. I'm trying to import the RPM key. Already set http_proxy variable to: export "http_proxy"=http://proxy.xpto.com:3128 Truth is, command # rpm --import http://mirror.centos.org/centos/RPM-GPG-KEY-CentOS-4 just leaves me hanged. Any ideas ? Warm Regards, M?rio Gamito

CentOS and HP Drivers
I am debating installing CentOS on a new HP DL580 with an MSA1000 SAN. HP offers drivers that are specific to RHEL and will not install on other RH distros i.e. RH 9. Has anyone gotten the HP SupportPack to install under CentOS? Thanks! -- This message has been scanned for viruses and dangerous content by MailScanner, and is believed to be clean.

I'm looking for any easy way to make gnome a little more like KDE so my KDE apps look nice under gnome. I also want some extra gnome themes. Does anyone have any links on how-tos, or any ideas on where to start?

dumb, dumb question
I''m very new to shorewall. My setup is IP Gateway (CentOS 4 + Shorewall) with 3 NIC cards. Shorewall works great on the firewall machine. Bind also works (local net machines get IPs fine). Under firestarter, all works great. With shorewall, the loc machines can not route past the firewall. They can connect to the firewall, but not past it. Exactly what information should I post to get

multiple external addresses on one interface
I want to add two IP ranges on one NIC card (eth0 and eth0:1). Has anyone done this before? The CentOS 4 gui keeps locking up when I try it there and the command line ifconfig seems to work, but ifup always returns the error that is never heard (no such device) of eth0:1 thanks

Firefox problems
Since upgrading to FireFox 1.0.2 I have noticed a large number of problems connecting to web sites that are reached without difficulty using MS-IE 6. The symptom is a message box that declares that the "The Document Contains No Data" which, ironically enough, is the very error I get when trying to reach http://www.google.ca/url?sa=U&start=1&q=http://kb.mozillazine.org/Do

Everytime I try to recompile a kernel, "make modules" always dies with the error: mv: cannot stat `include/asm-i386/asm_offsets.h.tmp': No such file or directory make: *** [include/asm-i386/asm_offsets.h] Error 1 I installed the src RPM and kernel-devel ... any ideas as to what I could be doing wrong? Thanks!!

PPTP VPN secure?
Hi all I have succesfully set up PPTP VPN access to my company using PoPToP/pppd (thank you Tom for excellent documentation), everything works fine so far. Problem is security. As I understand it, since PPTP ports trough tunnel are opened to whole Internet (have to be), access verification is now based only on username/password combination. Can level of security be raised with MAC verification?

SSH + VNC
I am trying to log into a desktop that is running CentOS 4.2 by tennelling VNC through SSH.. The desktop auto-logins a user, then sits there waiting for me to login. On the client side, I fire up SSH tunneling ssh -L 8000:127.0.0.1:5900 The client spits back the error vncviewer: ConnectToTcpAddr: connect: Connection refused Unable to connect to VNC server The server says channel 5: open

1.0.beta7
Sorry, the authentication problem still wasn't actually fixed in beta6. Now, this time I tested every possible authentication case that it really works. I'll soon create a CVS branch which is going to stabilize into the 1.0 release. I won't add new features there so it shouldn't really get broken anymore, at least because of new features.. So, two changes in this release:

1.0.beta6 released
Fixes, mostly: * The login and master usernames were reversed when using master_user_separator (now the order is UW-IMAP compatible). * Killing dovecot master process now kills all IMAP and POP3 processes also. + -a parameter to dovecot prints now all settings that Dovecot uses. -n prints all settings that are different from defaults. + Added pop3_lock_session setting + %M modifier
