kernel panic at install time centos-3.5-x86_64
I have successfully kickstarted 3.4 x86_64, but after updating my repo to
3.5 I see a kernel panic when it loads vmlinuz.
Funny thing is that I had one box that would kernel panic while trying to
install centos-3.4-x86_64, which then would install fine after updating to
3.5, but now my other mahcines will not kickstart.

aacraid monitoring tool?
I've got myself an Adaptec 2200 HW RAID card to play for couple of days. Tha
card uses aacraid device driver. Seems to work nicely, however just wandering
if there's a tool (prefferably CLI) for CentOS that can read out RAID
configuration data, status of individual drives, maybe even manage
(create/delete) RAID devices?
Thanks for any and all pointers.

ethernet interfaces swapped around
One of my systems have two onboard NICs which uses the e100 and e1000
drivers (yes, the interfaces are not the same). This system kickstart
fine with CentOS 3.x. I recently tried to rekick it with CentOS 4.x
but was unsuccessful in doing so. When kicking CentOS 4.1, the
interfaces are swapped around, i.e. eth0 becomes eth1 and eth1 becomes
eth0 (as described at

Opteron in 32-bit mode
I'm spec-ing a development server for some Haskell hackers. In
particular, they need to be able to build and run the Glasgow Haskell
Compiler (ghc), the x86_64 port of which isn't quite there yet.
My current thought is to get an Opteron-based system, but load it
(initially, at least) with the 32-bit i386 version of CentOS. That buys
me near-term ghc compatibility. In the future,

Hi,
I have a IBM ThinkPat T30 a Cisco Aironet wireless internal in the
laptop 802.11b only.
It works great with open Acess points, but when i try to connect to
encripted ones.
I got the dialog box asking for the passphrase 128 bit, I enter it and
after that i receive the dialog box again!
Maybe my card do not support WEP or I am doing something wrong?

OT: firewalls
What is everyone using for a firewall?
I'm currently using www.astaro.com but their recent releases have soured
me on ASL as a practical solution on my hardware (1.2MHz Athlon, 30G,
and 256M). I only have 4 computers going through the firewall wall but
it's consistently at 50% cpu load. There is very little network traffic

Out of the woodwork
Greetings Everyone,
I finally got around to downloading and installing CentOS 3.1. Performed
flawlessly :)
Any of my whitebox friends still around here?
I've been extremely busy with work as of late....I'm still considering getting
involved with CentOS.

Ambiguity on a CentOS dot Org Web Page.
Hi Ralph,
Whilst wearing you C-devel hat, will you please have a look at a
recent forum thread [1] that has highlighted the ambiguity on the
CentOS Product Specification web page [2]. I'm asking this here, as I
guess that page really does come under documentation . . . and you are
the documentation-meister.
If it is not actually your area, please let me know who's cage bars I

mcollective scalability
I''ve been thinking a lot about running mcollective on my production
servers recently, especially about its nice integration with puppet
(using facts and so on). However I''ve got some concern about its
scalability - how publish/subscribe middleware scales in terms of
speed and flooding the network. I run about 2000 servers. Has anyone
got any experience running mcollective on

strange string in /etc/shadow
Hi,
I am using puppet (version 0.25.5-1.e15 for redhat) for password
management for non-system users. This morning, users on some of my
puppet clients had their encrypted password strings in /etc/shadow
replaced with the following string:
YAML::syck::BadAlias
That has effectively broken the users'' ability to login to those
servers. Puppet will not overwrite that string with the

Test if stored config is enabled?
Hi
I''d like to be able to test if stored config is enabled and active,
and if not then react (eg. notice or die).
Is there any way of doing this?
Thanks
Dom

Red Hat Legal Targets www.centos.org website content
To squelch the questions (related to the changing content on
www.centos.org), I decided this needs to be published.
The CentOS Team has been contacted by representatives of Red Hat's hired
legal team regarding the use of Red Hat Trademarks on www.centos.org.
(Full Email follows.) While the CentOS team feels we are using Red
Hat's marks in a fair and legal manner, we have no choice
