java-1.4.2-gcj-compat.i386 update failure
Hmmm, I seemed to have created a misalignmnet somewhere along the line. I can't remember doing anything to this. But at one time I did try to test the java open source. Posted my results to the list, got no response, abandoned all hope and went on my merry way. I don't know if this is related. I have installed an rpm for a java needed by an application I run. It was from the official

Installing Java using jpackage.org's java-*-sun-compat RPMs
As requested on IRC, this is my proposed walkthough for installing Java on CentOS 4 using jpackage.org's compat-rpm method. Please review and comment. 1. make sure jpackage-utils is installed $ rpm -q jpackage-utils jpackage-utils-1.7.3-1jpp.2.el5 if it isn't already installed, you can install it using # yum install jpackage-utils The package is part of CentOS, so you don't need to

java yum problem
Error: Missing Dependency: /usr/bin/rebuild-security-providers is needed by package java-1.4.2-gcj-compat I'm digging all over the place for this one. Has anyone a clue?? When I use: yum whatprovides /usr/bin/rebuild-security-providers it returns: jpackage-utils.noarch : JPackage utilities I've installed this from several sources. Nothing seems to provide the rebuild thing. I've used

JPackage, Java 1.5.0, and CentOS 5?
Hey, y'all. I don't know how many folks here are familiar with a blogging program called 'pebble' http://pebble.sourceforge.net, but it's *supposed* to be an easy drop-in to a tomcat5 container. I suppose that it is, once I figured out how to get tomcat 5 working in CentOS 5, but I'm still having problems with the java. CentOS comes with Java 1.4.2, but I need Java

Installing java on CentOS 5
strugging with things here... tried tracking the info on the Wiki (which apparently is now in need of a maintainer)... http://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/JavaOnCentOS My primary interest is using Xalan/Saxon/xslt/xsl-fo docbook generation. I was thinking that all I really need is jre but downloaded both jre and jdk just in case. can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong? (after removing both jdk

tomcat5 from jpackage 1.6 on cento4 w/java-1.4.2-sun-1.4.2.08-1jpp
Is there any documentation telling you whether tomcat5 was compiled against the 1.4.2 tree or the 1.5? You could try downloading the srpm, patching it to use the 1.4.2 java and then re-create your own rpm. Just a thought, might be an easier way though; will wait for the experts response. -----Original Message----- From: centos-bounces at centos.org [mailto:centos-bounces at centos.org] On

Java
Hi everyone, I'm a newbie to centos and having trouble upgrading java's jdk1.4 to jdk1.5. I assume I have to get the jdk from jpackage, but I'm having trouble locating it, let alone finding any instructions on how to upgrade. Much appreciated if anyone can help. Thanks!

tomcat5 from jpackage 1.6 on cento4 w/ java-1.4.2-sun-1.4.2.08-1jpp
Is anyone running tomcat5 from jpackage 1.6 on cento4 w/ java-1.4.2- sun-1.4.2.08-1jpp ? I'm getting weird dependencies which don't make sense, notably: Error: Missing Dependency: jdk = 2000:1.5.0_02-fcs is needed by package java-1.5.0-sun-compat I want to use 1.4.2 not 1.5 and it doesn't make sense to have jdk = 2000:1.5.0_02-fcs, unless I'm missing something? Java headaches
I lost my harddrive, and have had to reinstall. This time, I am being a bit smarter on imaging, but still got to get things installed... Installing Freemind. It needs Java JRE. So after lots of pain, and reading past messages, I got jre-1_5_0_09-linux-i586.rpm from sun and installed it. Then I tried to follow Jim Perrin's recommendation to install from jpackage.org the

java packages - tomcat5?
Have the jpackage-packaged things like tomcat5 been moved into the disto repositories? Do they work with sun java? In particular, tomcat5 used to require jta. The one yum installs doesn't mention it now, but it also doesn't work with sun java 1.5 installed the jpackage way. What am I missing? -- Les Mikesell lesmikesell at gmail.com

sun java install?
Has anyone installed the 1.4.x version of java the jpackage way recently? It looks like sun only has j2sdk-1_4_12 but the jpackage java-1.4.2-sun-compat package wants 4.2_10. -- Les Mikesell lesmikesell at gmail.com

GPL java
For the people who are currently interested in java as it relates to centos now that Sun has GPL'd java there are some things to be aware of. The folks at jpackage.org are pretty much all over this development but it's not the bright shiny news everyone has made it out to be. Sun did a very good thing by moving java under the GPL, and they should be commended for FINALLY seeing the light

CentOS 5 and Java
Hi, I just installed CentOS 5 on a few machines, to experiment with it. I have some trouble installing a Java plugin for Firefox. I've searched through the forum and read the various info at jpackage.org, and I'm a bit confused. 1) Can you point me to some reliable bit of information, even if it's laconic? 2) If I understand the info on http://jpackage.org/yum.php correctly,

Java Installation HowTo kickoff (JDK 1.4.2, 1.5 and 1.6)
I've started a Java Installation HowTo. Take a look: http://docs.google.com/Doc?id=dfd4fncx_32gbthmp Give me feedback, please. The IBM JDK is the "easiest" on 1.4.2 and 1.5 versions. The Sun JDK 1.6 is probably the most optimized (and the only 1.6implementation by now), but doesn't integrate so good like IBM JDK's generated RPMs. The BEA's JPackage nosrcs are so much

I am working on installing Freemind (http://freemind.sourceforge.net/wiki/index.php/Main_Page) on my new notebook. And it is not working...
