Re: FRS and GMRS via *
You don't need to reinvent anything to tie radios to *. Ham systems like IRLP, Echolink, eqso etc all have fairly tight controls to keep from being abused (although with a little Linux knowledge, the IRLP package can easily be used to set up your own network using their protocol). Jim Dixon seems to have done the work to integrate radios with * already. See

FRS & *: an actual business use
I've noticed a growing number of stores using FRS radios. It would make sense to interface (via soundcard/console driver, with the nessacary electrical conversion) a VOX FRS radio to asterisk to allow someone in the office to page/talk with people on the floor or warehouse. You could throw that call (ie, all the radios) into a meetme conference. Then, you could have people in the office

dingotel - connect Asterisk to 2-way radio?
So has anybody got one of these? http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B0007LQQUK/qid%3D1106972010/sr%3D11-1/ref%3Dsr%5F11%5F1/102-1529886-6420131 I'm thinking that it should be possible to connect it directly to an Asterisk box and not use their software, as long as there was Linux support for the USB dongle. Maybe it just looks like a standard USB audio device? But there has to be an

AX25 kernel compile help
Is there someone who can help me compile who can compile the latest kernel with ax25 and other item related to ROSE / NETRom ect. stuff for a project I am working on? I have looked at Knoppix and what not but the kernel seems to be out of date a little. I like the looks and feel of the centos format and the GUI's that CentOS has and wanted to test it out in the Amateur Radio realm. Thanks

Mappery : uncertain Thinkpads (Repost?)
Followups set, hesitantly, to gmane.linux.redhat.fedora.general I thought I had posted this to both these groups, but my newsreader doesn't show it in either. I have three Garmin GPSs (an Etrex Vista and two Rino 120s), which I want to use under Fedora 11 Linux with four PCs, and two IBM- reconditioned Thinkpads, T30 & T42. Package XML: Parse Garmin *.tcx file problems
I'm struggling with package XML to parse a Garmin file (named *.tcx). I wonder if it's form is incomplete, but appreciably reluctant to paste even a shortened version. The output below shows I can get nodes, but an attempt at value of a single node comes up empty (even though there is data there. One question: Has anybody succeeded parsing Garmin .tcx (xml) files? Thanks! Michael

Mapsource upload problem
I have successfully installed Garmin Mapsource using WINE 0.9.59, running on Ubuntu Hardy Heron. Everything appears to work OK until I try to upload selected maps to my GPS unit. At this point, Mapsource shows a list of detected devices; this appears showing two instances of the Garmin GPS unit name, plus 'removable drives' D, E and I. If I select the main Garmin GPS unit entry to upload

When I run the installer in wine 0.9.26 on Gentoo, it finally errors out with a useless error message in the GUI. On the starting terminal I find: err:msi:cabinet_notify failed to create L"c:\\windows\\system32\\ROBOEX32.DLL" (error 5)

I have a Garmin 78s marine GPS receiver and it stores tracks in GPX format. This is an XML encoded set of points giving longitude, latitude, time and sea depth. Garmin support viewing this via their Garmin Express product, but there only seem to be Windows and Mac versions. I've emailed them and await a reply. In the mean time, does anyone know of any Linux products that will emable me to
