A bit of a survey: What do do if you need more than 4 C.O. lines
Folks, In light of all the troubles people report when running more than one TDM400 card in a system, I wouldn't mind hearing what your solution of choice would be when having to connect 5 or more analog telco circuits to an Asterisk. I'll try and compile the answers together and get them into the Wiki, as I figure this could be useful knowledge for the community. TIA, Jim. -- Jim

Telco MWI Detection on TDM400 Interface?
I've upgraded to asterisk-1.6.0-beta2. I'm trying to get the new Telco MWI detection function working. It doesn't appear to be working. I have this in zapata.conf ; PSTN connected here ;immediate=no ;busydetect=yes ;busycount=8 ;musiconhold=default mwimonitor=yes ;mwilevel=512 mwimonitornotify=/usr/local/sbin/zapnotify.sh faxdetect=incoming signalling=fxs_ks context=incoming

Telco MWI Detection on TDM400 Interface?
I use a TDM400 card to interface with my telco. I used asterisk voice mail. However, if I'm on the telco line while another call comes in, obviously it cannot go to asterisk voice mail but instead bounces to the Telco voice mail. Is there any means by which I can get asterisk detect the Message Waiting Indicator (MWI) from the telco? Is there some application or variable which can be

5.8gig phone MWI
Does anyone have personal experience with a 5.8gig wireless phone (system) that has an MWI that WORKS with asterisk via fxs (in my case spa3k) generated MWI. I know the spa3k does stuttered dialtone but not sure if it generates FSK MWI. I see some that state they do but I also see reviews that say they don't. Doug

Anyone know where a good source of mailing list stats might be found?
Folks, I'm curious to know how the volume of Asterisk-Users rates as far mailing lists go. This list sees over 200 messages per day, which has GOT to put it in the top 5%, doesn't it? I'd love to know if anyone has knowledge of any organization that might maintain such stats. Regards, Jim. -- Jim Van Meggelen jim@vanmeggelen.ca -- No virus found in this outgoing message.

Version FIOS MWI Detection - asterisk-1.6-beta7
I'm trying to get the Telco MWI recognition working in asterisk-1.6-beta7. I'm told that it's supposed to work provided my telco support FSK MWI signalling. I have Verzon FIOS. I believe I have FSK MWI signaling as I can hear the standard stutter tone when I pick up a live handset in front of my asterisk connection. I have the Verizon line attached to a TDM400 card, port 4. I

What makes TDM400 FXS Connection to TELCO go into Off Hook State?
I've been having trouble with making outbound calls to my TELCO from a TDM400 card (FXS KS signalling) after upgrading from 1.6-beta9 to 1.6.0. The problem is completely intermittent. When it fails, I get this message: [Nov 9 19:12:26] WARNING[18916] app_dial.c: Unable to create channel of type 'DAHDI' (cause 0 - Unknown) At some point, it starts working, but I don't know what

Brainstorm: Running Asterisk as cool as possible - AKA solid state.
I would like to ask what people think the best way would be to build a low-power consumption, passively-cooled system. For example, one could use a fanless-Eden (mini-ITX/EPIA) system, but the loss of FPU power would limit performance. The obvious choice for FPU work are the Intels and AMDs, nut they're all power-hungry radiators. Is there something that can offer the quiet, power-savings of

UPDATE - Analog Phones with FSK/Stutter MWI
After purchasing the Uniden TRU9480 and then the Panansonic 5672, both of which do not have "phone company" compatible FSK/stutter MWI, I finally got smart and found out just which Panasonic phones have this feature. Only the following 5.8G models in their current line have FXO compatible MWI. I purchased the 5771 unit and one remote. I have confimed it does in fact work with Asterisk

1.6.1 + TDM840 FSK MWI problem
Hi, Using 1.4.26.1 & DAHDI 2.2.0.2, FSK VMWI devices off a TDM840 work fine. With 1.6.1.[45] & same DAHDI, instead of the FSK spill I get a line polarity reversal. Stutter dialtone is generated as expected. Has anyone else seen this? Is there anything special I need to do for 1.6.1 to make FSK MWI work? Thanks, --Barry

MWI on Zap analog phone not lighting
We are using Bellsouth 8867 phones on our TDM400B FXS lines (asterisk-1.0.3). It has a "Voicemail" light, which appears to be MWI (according to the manual it works with voicemail from the telco that sends a FSK signal). The dialtone stutters when a line has voicemail, so I know that I have the mailbox setting right in zapata.conf, but the light doesn't go on. I am also getting

RE: [on-asterisk] Brainstorming dual-core and Asterisk
I believe you can assign processors in vmware, and xen as well. So you could probably do something funky like that to try to reduce load. The only thing that probably becomes difficult is trying to manage physical hardware between virtual machines. MWI question
Using a TE410P with Zhone 24FXS channel banks to power standard analog phones I can't seem to find out if it's possible to support FSK or voltage type message waiting lamps. I don't want to use stutter dial tone because of the dramatic difference in per phone cost. TIA

X101P + TDM400P
I thought I'd share my Asterisk experience, which hasn't exactly been as pleasant as I would like but now seems usable in most ways and more then I expected in other ways. I wanted a home PBX system, that would let me treat different callers different ways depending on CID. I initially bought the Digium developer's kit to try things out. That's a single port TDM400 and a X101P.

issue with Digium TDM410P
The TDM410P doesn't support 'hvac', only the obsolete TDM400P supports that option was for the old phones that have a neon light (or equivalent LED+ZENER ciruit). Are other phones off the TDM410P (other than the VTECH) working, or is the Vtech the only model with VMWI available to you. I'm not able to check at the moment, I have copied the asterisk-users list, someone else may

Survey: what's the best HTTPd/TFTPd/FTPd to serve up configuration files to sets
I would like to start a discussion centred around the various ways one might serve up configuration files from an Asterisk server (I know, it's better to use a secondary server for all this, but let's talk about a smaller system). The types of things being served would include: - Logo image for sets that support that - XML directory files - XML or raw text configuration files -

Polycom MWI.
Hey, all. I'm all over MWI, but I gotta say that I think the Polycoms go a bit over the top. The blinking LED is enough for me; how do I disable the stuttered dialtone and the audible warble? I've looked through the config files, but there are a HELL of a lot of options, and I haven't been able to find those particular ones yet. Thanks! -Ken -- This message has been scanned for

How to detect telco Message Waiting Indicator (WMI)
I'd like to be able to configure Asterisk to detect and respond to message waiting indications from my telco, as I'm using the telco voicemail as a fallback in case the Asterisk line is busy, Asterisk or it's server is down, etc. Detecting either the FSK (preferred) or the stutter-tone, would allow Asterisk to notify me that there it missed a message. I see periodic queries about
