Re: Need some guidance re: two domains sharing the same workstations
Hello Matt, I've had similar misfortunes too with interdomain trusts. I think you're working along the right lines since you seem to want to do the same thing as I. However the NT_STATUS_UNSUCCESSFUL is an error I always get when trying to connect to the IPC$ share of the PDC of the trusting domain. In my case the trusting PDC is a Windows 2003 Server. I know it's not an issue

Need some guidance re: two domains sharing the same workstations
I fought with this a few months back, and was never able to resolve it, so I'm back at it trying to get things to work before classes start again in January. Here's a brief summary of the situation: I am responsible for 2 departments, Math and Socialwork, which are located in the same building and share the same network. Each department has its own samba server (RHEL4/CentOS4) and domain

Fedora packages or Enterprise packages of Samba on RHEL4?
Hello, Can somebody of the Samba team explain me the difference of Fedora packages or Enterprise packages ( <http://enterprisesamba.com/> http://enterprisesamba.com/) of Samba on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4? I tried to find any information about this subject, but googleing doesn't help me. The standard Samba package (3.0.10EL) of RHEL4 doesn't communicate with a W2k3 server

Samba as W2k3 AD domain member; how to configure domain controller failover?
Dear list, I have a question how you configure Samba (configured as a W2k3 domain member) to failover to a secondary AD domain controller when the connection to the primary domain controller fails. First some info: - Windows 2003 Active directory (native mode), currently running with 2 domain controllers. - Samba (version 3.0.9) running on a RHL9 server (updated with kerberos 1.3.1-7),

"user 'root' does not exist" in winbindd.log after upgrade from 3.0.2a to 3.0.3
Dear list, After the upgrade from 3.0.2a to 3.0.3 I see in my winbindd.log file all the time "user 'root' does not exist" messages. I didn't get these messages with my 3.0.2a samba setup, but after the upgrade to 3.0.3 it is flooding my winbindd.log file, sometimes I get this message every minute in my log file. winbindd.log ========== [2004/05/10 00:01:00, 1]

3.0.7; "string overflow by 1 (32 - 31) in safe_strcpy"
Hello, I'm using samba 3.0.4 (on RHL9) as a W2k3 domain member in an ADS realm. For printing I'm using CUPS of RHL9. The XP clients get the CUPS printers (CUPS redirects the printjob to the JetDirect card of the printer) and the appropriate PCL drivers installed via the "Point 'n Print" mechanism. The clients get their printers installed via de AD login script and the there

Automatic ADS server fallback

I describe now a little our real production ADS environment; Madrid: 2 W2k3 ADS servers (ADM01 and ADM02) in a cluster; both are a global catalog server in the XXXX.COM realm. pptp, ipsec and vpn
Hi All, This is a general VPN question; PPTP VPNs seem to be very easy to set up with CentOS as the VPN server and the built-in windose client, but how do list members feel about the security vunerabilities reported with the MS implementation? Specifically the 6 problems reported here : http://www.schneier.com/pptp-faq.html or maybe im being paranoid? Would any of you roll this solution out

Problems with registering new emails - imap/jfs/maildir
After changing a mailserver from using mbox/ext3 (RHL9) to Maildir/jfs (RHEL 3), dovecot 0.99.10 no longer reports new email even if asked... I have to restart the mail client and do a fresh login to notice new email. This happens with multiple mail clients on multiple platforms, and didn't happen before the conversion... any suggestions on workarounds? -- Trond Eivind Glomsr?d Senior

System on time
Hi, To get my system on time, I usually issue these two commands: # ntpdate de.pool.ntp.org # hwclock -w And when I want this to be done on startup, I put the two lines in rc.local. I wonder if this is an orthodox way to do things. Or is there something more appropriate? Niki Kovacs

Problems with dovecot 2.2.13 and monit
Hello, When I upgraded my servers to dovecot 2.2.13 the monitoring tool monit started to send out warnings that it couldn't reach my imap/pop3 servers through ssl any more. The same problem didn't happen on non-ssl-connections. According to people on the monit list this is likely a dovecot issue: https://lists.gnu.org/archive/html/monit-general/2014-06/msg00031.html Let me quote: >

2.6.9-42.ELsmp kernel and 3ware 9550 tools
I have the latest kernel with the drivers for my 3ware 9550SX built in. Where can I find the tools and monitoring apps for this card? Are there rpms hiding somewhere, or do I need to build it from source? -- Bowie

Building rpms
I have been asked to update OpenLDAP to the latest stable version. I am using CentOS 4.2 and have OpenLDAP 2.2.13 installed. I can install from source if I have to, but I would rather stay with rpm packages if possible. I found an rpm from Fedora Core Development on RPMFIND. Will this one work with Centos, or should I grab the source rpm and rebuild it? Bowie
