rsync --daemon and logfile that can't be created
If the rsyncd.conf has a line such as: log file = /var/log/rsync/log and /var/log/rsync doesn't exist or isn't a directory (or the log file can't be opened for any other reason), then there's no warning whatsoever, as rsync forks itself into the background before checking the config, opening the log file, etc. Worse still, it gets a SIGSEGV, and dumps core. Here's a strace

sys/types.h -> linux/types.h and __aligned_u64
When building klibc 1.5.25 against linux/master (ie. post 3.1) I'm seeing: klibc/generated/include/linux/if_packet.h:176: error: expected specifier-qualifier-list before '__aligned_u64' which seems to come from upstream commits: 0d4691ce112be025019999df5f2a5e00c03f03c2 remotes/linux/master~90^2~408 (origin) 96c131842aab45b5d139d0bcb417796819f5ee92 remotes/linux/master~90^2~169

Jigdoes of CentOS 4.4 and 5.0 i386/x86_64 CD/DVD available.
I've gone through the trouble (after some 10 rounds I finally have something I'm happy with) and generated jigdo/template files for CentOS 5.0 iso's (CD/DVD i386/x86_64) (and CentOS 4.4 while I was at it: CD/DVD/ServerCD SRPMS/i386/x86_64). (and I started on this before the thread about creating the DVD's from the CD's started ;-) ) They are available at:

[PATCH] klibc: reproducible builds
From: Maciej ?enczykowski <maze at google.com> This adds a new setting: KBUILD_REPRODUCIBLE If it is non-empty, ar and ranlib will be called in such a way that timestamps do not affect the build output. This allows one to get perfectly reproducible builds. Signed-off-by: Maciej ?enczykowski <maze at google.com> --- scripts/Kbuild.klibc | 14 +++++++++----- usr/klibc/Kbuild |

Filesystem experience question was Migration questions
Doing a cursory Google scan on journaled Linux filesystems, it seems that the three ground-up journaled FSes: XFS, reiser and JFS all have their separate strong points but all compare favorably. Reiser does a better job with many small files...which would seem to be the reality of maildir formatted inboxes. Any comments on that? Any war stories, that is, any comments on reliability,

Query: Centos 4.2 availability
Hi, Not meaning to rush you folks (you're doing a great job). But I'm about to install/clone 4 computers with Centos 4. When can I expect 4.2 to be out (in DVD format preferably)? As in, is it worth waiting and saving myself the later hassle extra downloads? [I don't actually have 4.1 DVD's, just 4.0, so I pretty much have to download the DVD.ISO anyway] Cheers & Thanks,

Centos-announce censoring :-)
Hi! I have a quick question about the centos-announce mailing list, is there some guide as to what the subject lines of all the mails there are (ie. for regexps)? I want to filter everything that isn't related to CentOS 4 i386 out to /dev/null... Cheers and thanks, MaZe.

Does CentOS has problems with Norton Ghost 2003 images?
Hello all We have two very important workstations dedicated to tasks of development and investigation. At the moment we have installed a dual boot platform with CentOS 4.0 and Windows XP Proffessional SP2. In order to do backups of these machines we need to create an image with Norton Ghost 2003. We have worked with Ghost during several years with different platforms (Red Hat, White Box Linux,

x86 uniprocessor 4GB memory (fwd)
If you have an AGP video card which you aren't actually using you can try selecting the minimum possible AGP apperture (window whatever) size (possibly even disable it?). This might help. Also removing the AGP card and using a junk 1-8MB svga card will also possibly work. In my experience the linear framebuffer of video cards is by far the greatest memory hog these days. Cheers, MaZe.

Re: ReiserFS3 Support
Along the lines of the recent discussion about ReiserFS support, I was wondering if it is compatible with SELinux? I know there are some file system support issues regarding it... Another random question: is there a way to get/use Disk Druid under a running installation? This would make adding new disks, RAIDs, LVM management, etc. a breeze compared to what it can be like sometimes

alias keeps changing (fwd)
I'd suggest looking around the ifcfg-eth* files (somewhere in /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts I think) nad commenting out HWADDR= lines, if that works, then try reversing the HWADDR lines - this will reverse the numbers of the ethernet cards (ie making eth0 eth1 and eth1 eth0) but should result in a stable configuration till next hardware change. And you problem? IMHO, when the system

multiple signed ssl certificatess on single IP address
Good afternoon everyone, This is my first post here. I was wondering if someone could clear my mind about this. I have a dedicated server with a single ip address assigned to it. I want to host couple of site which are hosted somewhere else and they have signed certificates. Now I want to host them all on this single server. Is it possible to bound more than one cert to a single IP based
