Attempting custom CentOS4 network install
Hi I am installing CentOS4 over ether network using http and kickstart. I boot from the first CentOS CD and at "boot:" prompt I input "ks=http://localserver/install/custom.cfg". Except for minor glitches like "Kernel-Development group not found" warning, the process is smooth and is almost completely automated. Now, I want to add additional RPMS to the CentOS/RPMS

Custom CentOS5 DVD
Hello, Does anyone have an up-to-date page describing, step by step, how to make a customized CentOS5 DVD? I noticed that CentOS5 already comes with ~240MB of updates. So for starters, I'd like to create a new DVD with all the current updates. (And I have other custom scripts I need to install on top of that). I've googled around and tried various suggestions on the net:

Most efficient way to create a CentOS 3 test VM
I'm about to create a new CentOS 3 VM for testing, since we still have a bunch of deployed machines running that OS. (Don't yell at me about using old OSes. These machines won't get "un-deployed" until they fall over dead of natural causes. Until the last one dies, we need test and build VMs around to service them.) I have the CentOS 3.9 *.iso files plus a local cache

Jigdo, etc...
Hi folks, I've just finished rsyncing/downloading/jigdoizing the entire i386/x86_64 CentOS 4.2 distribution. If anyone is interested go to http://mirror.tcs.ii.uj.edu.pl/jigdo/ You'll need to edit the .jigdo file by hand to change the server section [Servers] CentOS42=file:/opt/mirrors/centos/4.2/ to point to a local mirror (file, http or ftp), ie. to use kernel.org: [Servers]

Merging os and updates
I've been able to successfully kickstart CentOS 3.9 from the base repo, but no such luck after merging os and updates. I think I did everything right - updated base/comps.xml and regenerated hdlist/hdlist2. Updated the yum repo as well although I'm pretty sure it's not used by anaconda. This is difficult to debug. The setup is running under kvm on a CentOS 6.4 host, and for some

bug: comps has wrong version number
hi, comps in rh9 is comps-9-0.20030313 while in the latest centos-3.4 it's comps-3.4centos.0-0.20050105 so the rh9 has higher version number which means this packages not upgraded during an upgrade to any version of centos. and yum also not upgrade this package. imho it's a bug. is there any way to find out what other packages is remain from some older rh version? yours. -- Levente

Install challenges
As mentioned in my previous post I just completed a rebuild on my new dns/mail server. And it was almost a disaster. When loading from CDs I would get a dialog that an rpm could not be found, perhaps bad media. I would pop out the CD, click OK and things continued. Until finally it would not. I had two copies of the CDs and neither worked! So I happened to have the CDs on my web server

what the best ? apt-get? yum or urpmi ?
Hello, I must make a choice concerning the use of a tool used to update rpms: yum, urpmi or apt-get. Personally, I use urpmi every day, without real problems (the dependences, even those of Perl are very well managed), the "hdlist" can be used in several forms , it contains a lot of funtions but, it is not integrated into up2date and does not have a graphic interface that fits Centos3

Rsync 3.0.0pre6 released
I've just released rsync 3.0.0pre6, the latest pre-release version of the upcoming 3.0.0 release. Things are still progressing in our efforts to stamp out bugs for the final release. There are still some things reported earlier that I have either not yet had a chance to fix or have been unable to reproduce yet, but I hope to get even more of these problems sorted out soon. Please keep up

Samba 3.0.1 from samba.org shows "bgmilne" as username
When I attempted to "rpm -i samba3-3.0.0-1.1mdk.src.rpm" this morning on my Mandrake 9.2 box, I got an unusual message that doesn't make sense. It said, over and over (thirteen times total): WARNING: user bgmilne does not exist - using root When it went back to root prompt, I did an "updatedb", but nothing for "samba-3" is found when I did the urpmi request.

centos 3.3 and updates for 3.1
Hi Everyone, Centos 3.3 is available for general use - you can find it at: http://mirror.caosity.org/centos-3/3.3/ This should be a complete rebuild of all the nice things Red Hat has included in the srpms of their Enterprise Linux 3 update 3. This is a rebuild of all the changed packages from update 3 overlaid onto 3.1. It includes a rebuilt anaconda and new boot kernels for the installer.
