Voip as a secure service?
Hi All, I was just reading through Info Week while on a flight and happened upon an brief piece about a new VOIP security intiative worked up by a handful of the usual suspects; Alcatel, SMU, NIST, Symantec, etc. All of this begs the question of can't we get just do this as a user community? I understand that the Zultys phone, which I own several, support AES encryption of the RTP stream.

InfoWeek Article on VOIP
Here's t link: http://www.informationweek.com/story/showArticle.jhtml;jsessionid=JUEFVG ENEA01YQSNDBCCKH0CJUMEKJVN?articleID=165702588 The bottom line is that they compare retail VOIP providers like Comcast Cable, Time-Warner Cable, AT&T, Vonage, Packet8 et al. Their methodology seems sound. Their conclusion is that retail VOIP services don't yet match the PSTN for reliability &

Setting CallerID with ITSPs
Is there some concensus on where to set callerid when making outgoing calls via an ITSP over IAX? Is this best accomplished in IAX.CONF or EXTENSIONS.CONF? Also, tech support at one ITSP told me that the SetCIDName command doesn't do anything. Is this something that might be unique to their server? Or a general statement of fact? Thanks, Michael -- Michael Graves

OT: SIP aware firewalls?
Hi All, Until now I've only used IAX2 to connect to ITSPs. I've been toying with a SIP connection to Gizmo Project, but not yet successfully. It brings to mind a question. At what point does it make sense to consider a SIP-aware firewall such as those from Ingate? I'd hate to move away from my m0n0wall, which is open source, easy to manage and has served me brilliantly for two

Help evacuees from LA, MS, AL locate lived ones
Hello All, The following is an excerpt of an email sent to a number of ITSPs this morning..... I would like to direct your attention to a good idea that addresses a pressing need. At the web site http://contactlovedones.org/ Mr Dan Schoeffler outlines a telephone based means of helping displaced victims of Katrina to locate their loved ones by a voicemail based messaging system cross

G.722 between Eyebeam and a Polycom IP650
Hi All, So I've been exploring the use of G.722 encoded wideband audio recently. I have three different SIP devices that allow this: Eyebeam, IP650 and a Siemens S865IP. The Siemens and IP650 seems to work fine together. Calls pass between them in what the Polycom notes as "HD" mode and the audio quality is certainly very good. However, things are not so easy with Eyebeam and the

PJSIP trunk to Telynx
Has anyone used Telynx as a SIP trunk provider?? It works with chan_sip but it I seem to be having problems trying to set up a PJSIP trunk.? I always get a 401 Unauthorized when they send me a call.? I know my username and password are correct since I can register and PJSIP uses the same information for inbound as for the registration.? Unfortunately their support department said "PJSIP

PSGw 2.0 Skype<>SIP gateway
Hello, I bought a copy of this software in the hope of bridging Skype into my * box. It sort of works but the audio is all distorted and there's huge latency. Does someone have this working well with their * server? According to the wiki someone does, but I don't know who. I'm needing advise on what to fiddle with to get it working correctly. Thanks Michael -- Michael Graves

Using IAXTel to dial FWD
Hi All, Is this working for any of you? We're supposed to be able to dial FWD accounts through IAXTel by dialing 170099+FWD number. I don't ever seem to be able to do this even though I can dial 800 numbers through IAXTel. Michael -- Michael Graves mgraves@pixelpower.com Sr. Product Specialist www.pixelpower.com Pixel Power Inc.

Stopping reinvite with IAX2?
Hi All, I'm using DISA on my * server to avoid overseas toll charges when making calls to Western Europe from my cell phone. I have DISA working with a DID from a VoicePulse Connect account. The outgoing call to Europe is also made via Voicepulse Connect. I see that the IAX media path is bridging the inbound call to the outbound call so that the media stream entirely bypasses my server once

Hitachi Cable WIP-5000 Wifi phone?
I see that ABPTech are now offering this SIP Wifi phone. Does anyone have an experience with it? I've considered the Pulver/Zyxel wifi phone but would really rather have something that can handle WEP or WPA. I run an 802.11g wlan with 256 bit WPA encryption. This Hitachi phone looks very much like a cell phone, which could be ideal. Michael -- Michael Graves

New Embedded Distro
Hi All, A couple of weeks ago I noticed Askozia PBX, which is a new embedded Asterisk & OS distro at http://askozia.com/pbx. This caught my attention for two reasons; it uses v1.4 of Asterisk, and it uses the m0n0wall development framework to build on FreeBSD with a PHP based GUI. I've used m0n0wall for years, and FreeNAS also, which shares the same OS/GUI framework. I booted the latest

[VOIP-Users-Conference] Re: Opinions please: Polycom IP 430 vs 330?
Let me add another variable into the mix...what about the Linksys SPA-962? Good, bad or otherwise? The 32 button sidecar seems like a deal at $80 street price. H.323 vs SIP?
OK. So it would appear that my quest for FXO adapters unconvers more, and certainly more mature, H.323 based devices...not so many SIP devices. What would be the benefits of SIP over H.323 for a small office * server? All I need to do is bring 4 POTS lines into * with Caller ID, make outgoing local calls reliably without undo echo. FWIW, my * server is Fedora Core 1 on AMD XP2500 with 512 MB

Sayson IP Phones?
Have the Sayson IP phon started to deliver yet? I'm thinking about two new phones for my office and considering the Sayson 480i and Zultys 4x4. Would also consider the Virbiage phone if it becomes available. I have Snom 200s and a Pingtel phone at the moment. Michael -- Michael Graves mgraves@pixelpower.com Sr. Product Specialist
