"Best" VoIP provider for Asterisk?
Hello!
I would like to get connected with a VoIP provider for home. At some
point, I'm sure I will be connecting to it via an Asterisk box, but for
now, I will be using whatever hardware they provide.
What recomendations do you in the Asterisk community have for a reliable
VoIP service that will hopefully interoperate with Asterisk? A company
that is actually willing to work with an

The bottom line is that they compare retail VOIP providers like Comcast
Cable, Time-Warner Cable, AT&T, Vonage, Packet8 et al. Their
methodology seems sound. Their conclusion is that retail VOIP services
don't yet match the PSTN for reliability &

VoIP service through Asterisk?
Greetings. I did some digging with Google, the wiki, and on the
archives, but didn't find a recent conclusive answer. If this is
answered in the wiki or archives somewhere, please point me to it.
I'm in the process of setting up an Asterisk box for home use. I've got
a X100P card on the way. I've not decided what analog adapter(s) to get
yet. The only phone service to hook up

VONAGE or IP Dialtone
The Vonage service is offered with a SIP Cisco ATA device for connection
to an analog phone.
Is it possible to connect the Vonage service directly to the Asterisk
PBX bypassing the ATA and FXO card? Are there other services that offer
this capability or something similar to IP dialtone?
Thanks
Kevin

Where did my DID's go??
Okay, first a little background - I've been with Packet8 since a month
after they started. I found that we were outgrowing their services
and decided to move to an asterisk box in the office. I found a
service provider that offered me a reasonable rate. After a fair
ammount of testing I decided to stick with their services and port my
3 primary DID's from Packet8 to the new service.

VoIP dialtone?
Hi all,
While pondering my choices for local dial tone service via a
bunch of POTS lines or a T1, I began to wonder if perhaps there
is another way.
Are there VoIP dialtone providers? That is, could I use only my
internet connection for voice calls and not have a separate
T1/POTS bank for that?
I guess I am imagining a company that gateways between the PTSN
and the internet backbone.

Verizon-Vonage Lawsuit
May be slightly off topic, but I was wondering what everyone thinks of this
latest ruling against Vonage? Does anyone really know what Verizon hold
patents for, and could those patents possible affect anything in Asterisk?
Who knows who Verizon will go after next.

Asterisk<>X100P<>Packet8
Noob here, my apologies in advance.
Recently my employer decide to stop paying for my home POTS line, so
I ordered packet8 for a home line instead of another POTS line, since
I really dislike my local phone company, and the POTS line without
any long distance would cost more than the $20 to packet8 with
unlimited US calling.
Anyway, this whole thing got me started thinking about VOIP a lot

Total newbie here looking to do a VoIPconfer ence call?
Come to think of it since the DTA310 uses DNS to find the SIP server, you
could setup a DNS cache and override the DNS entry for what packet8 uses
(proxy2-eqix-sjo.packet8.net : 15062, over here) to point to the IP of your
own SIP server? Kind of a hack but it should work as long as it's running
on port 15062. I am very new to this so I don't know if there's a port
standard for SIP

Can I interoperate with public PSTN gateways ?
Apologies if this is an FAQ, I wasn't able to find an answer googling:
Will any of the public PSTN/VoIP gateway services (Vonage, Packet8 etc)
interoperate with * ?
I'd like to deploy a box which provides PBX service for analog handsets,
and handles inbound/outbound calls via both analog PSTN lines, and,
say Packet8 VoIP service. I understand that I can do this by connecting
the analog

SIP <--> PSTN gateways
So what are people using these days for SIP or IAX to PSTN gateways.
1. Do any of the standard companies (Packet8, Broadvox, Vonage, etc.) allow
you to use your own SIP device (phone or something like *) instead of the
interface hardware they usually provide?
2. What about latency and reliability?
3. Finally, do any of the providers deliver more than one call via SIP? In
otherwords, if

BudgeTone NAT issues
Just for the record and to possibly help with others who get BudgeTone
phones.
My asterisk box is behind NAT, and I use Vonage, NuFone, and
iconnecthere for my "POTS backhaul."
On the front end I have an ATA186, a Digium TDM20, and now a BudgeTone 102.
The BudgeTone definitely has issues wrt the RTP stream and NATting,
although unfortunately I haven't yet been able to dig

Re: [Asterisk-biz] Livevoip U.S. 800 LNP Starts March 9th 2005
Mike,
No they have not. Calls are failing again today. They have offered to
refund my money but that does not solve the problem. My asterisk server
is only 4 to 12 ms away from their "network". I have had VERY good luck
with nufone.(40 to 45ms away) Only have 1 or 2% fail rate. Going to be
calling txlink.net on Monday.
Seems that LiveVoIP does not care about asterisk users. They like

Packet 8
I remember reading some people were talking about being able to use
packet 8 without the ATA (I currently connect via an X100P card).
Did this ever get anywhere?
The wiki doesn't have any information on this - lots of referrals but
that's it.

VSP? Looking for advice.
Has anyone tried using BroadVoice for VSP? I have Asterisk configured
for a home office & I've been trying to decide which VoIP provider to go
with for a little while now. I had heard you could get sub $.01 calls
but I have not found that to be true yet (not saying it's not possible,
I just haven't found it!).
Also I'm not sure if BV will support multiple lines. Any

Has Nufone gone belly-up
Folks,
I've ordered a new account from Nufone last month. Transferred money to
Nufone through their paypal account. I had communication with Nufone sales
up until two weeks back. Since then there were no replies to my emails.
I am afraid with this kind of unresponsiveness how one would run a reliable
service with this company. Have no bad feeling with Jeremy as the author of
widely used h323

Vonage just doesn't work?
I've yet to successfully register and receive calls from my
Vonage softphone. I've tried what few examples are given in former post this
list and some other forums, but nobody seems to be stepping forward saying
it works recently. Either they broke something to where you simply cannot
use *, or the config examples need updated.
If anyone can show a still working config,

Music on hold is a durge
I have just setup music on hold by downloading and installing mpg123 r
Now I have music on hold but it sounds terrible - clipping, buzzing,
digital distortion, and its too loud (which probably isn't helping) and
I'm just running it thru the 'default' line in music onhold.conf line
default => quietmp3:/var/lib/asterisk/mohmp3, with the default mp3s.
This is a standard 1.0.3
