NetWorkSpace from REvolution; Distributed Computing setup questions
***Summary:*** I'm setting up a cluster using netWorkSpace, and I'm having issues with the sleigh initialization. My R function to initialize the sleigh succeeds and the sleigh appears to be ready, but I get apparently conflicting information from "status(s)", "rankCount(s)", and "s"; and basic sleigh functions cause the sleigh to hang indefinitely. Also,

Register pressure calculation in the machine scheduler and live-through registers
Hello, In a previous email, Matthias mentioned that register pressure estimates in the machine scheduler are not absolute; they only account for the registers that are used in the block.I assume that he meant that registers that are live-through (both live-in and live-out) are not accounted for in register pressure calculations. If a register is either live-in or live-out but not both, it must be

[LLVMdev] XMas Cambridge LLVM Social
Hi guys, We're doing a special XMas social next week (12th Dec), same time, same pub (Tivoli) and same time. Why special? No idea, just because it's December. Anyway, not many people will come, we know, but we're going to go anyway, since the beer is cheap and we have nothing better to do on a Wednesday evening. Oh, and folks have discounts on beer, to make them even cheaper.

[LLVMdev] LLVM's Pre-allocation Scheduler Tested against a Branch-and-Bound Scheduler

SNOM 200 behind NAT and other xmas woes
I decided to give the whole family IP phones for christmas, all hooked into my asterisk server, so all the nephews can have their own lines. However, one of the phones I got was the SNOM 200. That's worked fine for me on my own network, but I'm having bad luck getting it to work behind NAT talking to Asterisk. It talks to my termination/origination provider, which seems to ruthlessly

Look what I found under the Xmas tree!
Hello people, Looks like Santa Claus thinks I've been a good boy this year. Here's the third in my performance patch series: d.m.l Apply after applying d.o.n and d.n.m; I don't know how much of those got applied to the CVS tree. What's inside: Request for help! Look in os.h if you're using a compiler or processor I don't use (I use gcc on K5, K7, G3). New MDCT! Now we

caretNWS and training data set sizes
Hi, I am using the caretNWS package to train some supervised regression models (gbm, lasso, random forest and mars). The problem I have encountered started when my training data set increased in the number of predictors and the number of observations. The training data set has 347 numeric columns. The problem I have is when there are more then 2500 observations the 5 sleigh objects start but do

Viable Approach to Parallel R?
All, We are researching approaches to parallel R with the end goal of running R in a distributed manner on a Linux cluster. We expect of course to do some work decomposing our problems to be task-parallel or data-parallel, but wouldn't mind getting an initial boost working with "embarrassingly parallel" code sections and one of the approaches below. Incidentally our environment

%L, subnets and dns resolution Xmas problem
Hi, Using the %L macro in smb.conf is for me *very* usefull, I can setup as many logical servers as I need and that's great : no need for new machines, I can switch logical servers back and forth, it's a kind of System Administrator dream :-) *But* I've discovered a problem with the %L macro in a subnetted environment : - "hermes" is a Samba 1.9.18p10 server on a hpux

3.0.23c (FC6) and XP Pro - Error: STATUS_OBJECT_NAME_NOT_FOUND
On Monday (xmas day) samba was working fine. On Tuesday it wasn't. I didn't change anything on either the Fedora Core 6 machine (relay) nor the XP Pro machine (oob2). I followed all the steps in "Procedure 38.1. Diagnosing Your Samba Server", and until I got to step 8 everything worked fine. From the broken xp pro machine: oob2$ net view '\\relay' The Server

[LLVMdev] LLVM's Pre-allocation Scheduler Tested against a Branch-and-Bound Scheduler
Hi, We are currently working on revising a journal article that describes our work on pre-allocation scheduling using LLVM and have some questions about LLVM's pre-allocation scheduler. The answers to these question will help us better document and analyze the results of our benchmark tests that compare our algorithm with LLVM's pre-allocation scheduling algorithm. First, here is a

RS-232 Port with Nut
Hello All, I am trying to read my Eaton 5P 1550 with the Rs-232 port but I cannot get nut to read the driver from my Rs-232 to USB adaptor. When I perform lsusb -t it says my B&B electronics adaptor uses driver ftdi_sio How do I get the nut to read information coming from that?? Thanks, Connor -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... URL:

build R on windows
Hi, I'm not sure if this question has been answered before, but when I execute command "Rcmd INSTALL --build nws" to build an R package on Windows, the build process got stucked on the save image step. Here is the snapshot of the build process, --- Making package nws ---- adding build stamp to DESCRIPTION installing NAMESPACE file and metadata installing R files

Standard genres for the "Genre" Field?
It might be a good idea to have a list of standard genres that are suggested for use in the Genre field, just so that (polished) encoders can give the user a list to pick from when encoding a song, instead of making the user come up with one their own. This might seem like an encoder issue at first, but if two different encoders use two different names for a specific genre it's going to

Nullsoft Vorbis Decoder v.1.11a Bug Report
Hi, there. While waiting for the encoder RC1, I will report some minor problems I experienced with Peter's Winamp decoder. First, I am using Nullsoft Vorbis Decoder v.1.11a with Winamp v.2.76 on Windows 98 SE. 1. When the buttons of Playlist Editor are extended, the part extended in playlist screen seems to be flickering when an Ogg file is being played. 2. I check the option of

Packages for Learning Algorithm Independent Branch and Bound for Feature Selection
See, I have built my own genetic algorithm already and tested it on this problem. I have a solution, but due to the heuristic nature of GA, I cannot guarantee that it is the optimal subset. If I was simply doing this for a company project, you are spot on with the type of algorithm I would use, but I am doing this for a scientific paper. I need to be able to find the optimal subset over my

Locks & permissions on shares
We have a requirement here to set up what we call a "shared area". This is nothing more than a directory on a Unix server (Digital Unix) that allows a group of users read and write access to the directory. The shared area needs to be accessible from Win95 clients. A big restriction that we want is: - when a user opens a file, others should not be able to write to that file. So, the
