How to refresh blacklist without resetting counters
Hi,
Is it possible to get Shorewall to reload the static blacklist file without
resetting the packet and byte counters?
I am following the guide at
http://mudy.wordpress.com/2009/02/21/shorewall-blacklist-spamhaus-dshield/
to periodically generate a blacklist, but "shorewall -qq refresh -n
blacklst" resets all my accounting. Is there a way to do this without
resetting the counters?

Is there a public blacklist of hackers' IP addresses?
Hi,
In last one week I have seen two servers of our organization successfully
hacked and some other under attack from some other IP addresses. We would
block one IP address on our firewall and after a few hours, they would start
getting hits from some another IP address. When I checked them on whois.net,
they all were from Amsterdam. Surprisingly, I once had similar attack in the
past and it was

ISPs with QoS for VoIP?
I'm wondering if anyone knows of ISPs with service that has QoS
features that would be good to use with VoIP stuff. Granted,
the QoS would only be supported as long as you stayed within
their network, but it might be better than nothing.

Paid R Help
Hello R people,
I am looking to pay someone to help write some R code.
Inputs:
Study identifier: ID Number for the study, each ID number is for one study only each block set should only be used for that study. This will require that you store the results from the blocks someplace on the file system.

Simulation problem.
Hi,
I have problem with simulating.
This is my task...
Suppose that there are N persons some of whom are sick with influenza. The
following assumptions are made:
* when a sick person meets a healthy one, the chance is á that the latter
will be infected
* all encounters are between two persons
Write a function which simulates this model for various values of
N (say, 10 000) and á (say, between

Does anyone use VMWare 4.5.2 on CentOS 4?
I'm trying to use my copy and whenever I reboot I have to reconfigure
everything again using vmware-config.pl. Any idea why I might have to do
this? Is there something about the way services are setup under CentOS 4
or something?

Anyone use a Rio Cali Sport with CentOS 4.2?
My wife does and here's the problem. It automatically mounts the flash
memory of the player. But it doesn't mount the SD card slot. I used Ubuntu
5.10 recently and it mounted both of them. Both as separate USB sticks.
How do I get CentOS to do the same thing? Or can it not discern that two
USB flash devices are plugged in?

Support for inbound traffic from multiple ISPs in CVS
The Shorewall2/ project in CVS contains my initial attempt to establish
correct routing for traffic forwarded from two different ISPs to
internal servers.

different ISPs. This feature is enabled by setting the "default"

Installed CentOS 5 today, question about an error I'm getting
So I did a fresh install today. Decided to go ahead and upgrade.
Everything seems okay save for three problems.
#1 - I get a message during boot saying that an Intel microcode update
didn't work. Something about not being able to find /proc/microcode.
#2 - I can't use the Firefox extension HTML Parser. Anyone use this.
#3 - Off and on GDM crashes and I get dropped into a prompt.

Easy way to reject all incoming packets except from certain IPs?
Is there an easy way to reject all incoming packets except those that come
from certain IPs? I can't find any way via iptables or via the GUI provided
with CentOS (or another GUI for CentOS) without having to resort to
Shorewall. It's fine if the answer is "go with Shorewall". I just didn't
want to have to become a Shorewall expert for this really small task.
Any help/advice

Attachment. who can I best report this to for forensis?
Johan B, please let it through+ The headers are needed.
I live in the Netherlands, where the police contacts for this sort of
thing are grey and unknown to me.
The Metropolitan Police (London only) in England is 100% on the ball,
but they're under resourced and I don't live in their "manor" (London
slang for area).
I'd like to push it out to as powerful an organization

Multi-button mice and Linux?
Does anyone here use a multi-button (as in more than 2) mouse with Linux?
How well supported are they? I've had to get one recently for work. I was
diagnosed with CTS and I now wear braces and use a wireless Intellimouse.
Works great at work with Windows, but I'm unsure how much, if any support
there is for Linux. Anyone have experience with this?

Help with Conditional Logit
Hello,
I'm brand new to using R. (I've been using Rapid Miner, but would like
to move over to R since it gives me much more functionality.)
I'm trying to learn how to do a conditional logit model.
My data has one dependent variable, 2 independent variables and a
"group" variable.
example:
class v1 v2 group
"sick" .3 .7 1

I'm trying to put an end to the spam at least and the built-in stuff for

[Very OT] Steve Jobs, is he sick?
For us "Railers" on Mac systems we all probably watched Steve Job''s
keynote at the WWDC yesterday. Was it just me, or did Steve look
"sick"? I mean he has lost a lot of weight and his skin was very drawn.

Removing custom kernels?
Is this possible. I did my first one yesterday in order to get my iPod
mini to work with the EL kernel. It worked well. Everything went
smoothly, but I don't like what I named it. So I'd like to take one more
shot at it. If I do, is there a way to remove the old one cleanly?
Modules and everything.
Also, if do recompile the kernel again, do I need fresh source, or can I
just do a make

New to CentOS, is this a safe bet?
I know this may be a stupid place to ask, but I have to ask. I'm looking
for a new Linux distro to use and support. I've been a loyal purchaser
of SuSE Linux Pro for the last 3 years. I've paid my $90 loyally, in
part because I wanted money to actually go to someone working on OSS,
but also because I thought it was a good bargain, to get a quality,
tested distro for that cost.

Thanks for all the help and advice
I went with CentOS today and I couldn't be happier. I'm definitely
excited to be part of this community.
Now I just have to remember (after years of using the default SuSE
install of Java/Ant/Tomcat/Eclipse, etc.) where the best place to put my
Java apps is.
