3Ware 9550SX and latency/system responsiveness
Dear list,
I thought I'd just share my experiences with this 3Ware card, and see
if anyone might have any suggestions.
System: Supermicro H8DA8 with 2 x Opteron 250 2.4GHz and 4GB RAM
installed. 9550SX-8LP hosting 4x Seagate ST3250820SV 250GB in a RAID
1 plus 2 hot spare config. The array is properly initialized, write
cache is on, as is queueing (and supported by the drives). StoreSave

OT: RH 4/5 and 3Ware 9500 firmware upgrades
I've just noticed that 3Ware has a more current version of the firmware
for the 9500S than I have on several machines. All of mine are running:
3w-9xxx: scsi0: Firmware FE9X 3.04.00.005, BIOS BE9X 3.04.00.002, Ports: 8.
and the latest rev appears to be 3.08. I'm wondering if there is any
compelling reason to upgrade or just let these sleeping dogs lie. :)

[OT] 3Ware 9.2.1.1 firmware for 9000 series released ...
Claims to have fixed the write performance issues with
multiple volumes. Haven't tried it personally (I do not have
a 9500S card, and I have only installed one once for a
client).
NOTE: This (9.2.1.1) is an actual, formal, supported release
-- not an unsupported engineering release.

3ware RAID controller scripts
Hello list, I see through the archives that some people here use 3ware
RAID controllers with Centos. I have picked up two 9500S-4LP
controllers for future servers. I was hoping that if some people could
please share their 3ware monitoring scripts with the rest of the
group. What I am really hoping to do is have some setup where a cron
job runs scripts to test each of the drives connected to the

7.0-Release and 3ware 9550SXU w/BBU - horrible write performance
Hi,
I've got a new server with a 3ware 9550SXU with the
Battery. I am using FreeBSD 7.0-Release (tried both
4BSD and ULE) using AMD64 and the 3ware performance
for writes is just plain horrible. Something is
obviously wrong but I'm not sure what.
I've got a 4 disk RAID 10 array.
According to 3dm2 the cache is on. I even tried
setting The StorSave preference to

3w_9xxx + Xen-patched 2.6.30 dom0 == bad LUN detection
I''ve been attempting to update my dom0 kernel by using the 2.6.27 git
tree from the xenclient repo and also to 2.6.30 using opensuse patches
rebased by Andrew Lyon. In both cases there''s a problem with the 3ware
3w_9xxx driver incorrectly detecting the LUNs on the device or some
other issue, which ultimately prevents partition table detection.
In my testing I applied the

Too much memory cache being used while moving large file
System :
CentOS 4.2
2.6.9-22.0.1.ELsmp
System fully up-to-date.
3GB RAM
3ware 9000S card, with Raid5 array.
I think that's about all relevant info ...
Had file on disk (not array), attempted to mv file to array.
Went fine till 2.4GB was copied, then it slowed down to a meg every few
minutes.
Free memory was ~50MB (Typically is 1.5-2GB), and cache was 2.5GB.
Stopped the move, however cache

3Ware 9550SX-4LP Performance
I know there are a few 3Ware fans here and I was hoping to find some help. I
just built a new server using a 3Ware 9550SX-4LP with four disks in raid 5.
The array is fully initialized but I'm not getting the write performance I was
hoping for -- only 40 to 45MB/Sec.
3Ware's site advertises 300MB/Sec writes using 8 disks on the PCI Express
version of this card (the 9580 I think.)

3Ware Escalade 9500S controller question
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
Hash: SHA1
Greetings folks,
I'm currently redoing my home server as one of the hard drives in my
RAID-1 array went down and I'm going to replace the lot of it with a
3Ware Escalade 9500S RAID capable card and four Seagate 200GB SATA
drives. These drives are supposedly the coolest and quietest SATA
drives available (better than the Maxtors I had anyway)

3Ware 9xxx 9500S-4LP SATA Raid with CentOS3.3?
Hello
I have at this time a w3are 7006-2 controller in my server Dual Xenon 2.8Ghz
. But now i will change it to a 9500S-4LP SATA Raid Controller.
I have seen in lsmod that the 7000 driver is loaded.
scsi_mod 115112 3 [sg 3w-xxxx sd_mod]
My question
Is it possible to running this card with centos 3.3?
I have seen this at 3ware http://www.3ware.com/KB/article.aspx?id=12706

Best mkfs.ext2 performance options on RAID5 in CentOS 4.2
I can't seem to get the read and write performance better than
approximately 40MB/s on an ext2 file system. IMO, this is horrible
performance for a 6-drive, hardware RAID 5 array. Please have a look at
what I'm doing and let me know if anybody has any suggestions on how to
improve the performance...

tws bug ? (LSI SAS 9750)
Hi,
I have been trying out a nice new tws controller and decided to enable
debugging in the kernel and run some stress tests. With a regular
GENERIC kernel, it boots up fine. But with debugging, it panics on
boot. Anyone know whats up ? Is this something that should be sent
directly to LSI ?

Getting kernel panic when installer starts formatting partitions. Was: How to get 3Ware 9500S controller card working in CentOS 3.1?
In regard of the e-mail sent on Jul/16/04 about the 3Ware 9500S.
Has anyone experienced/solved this issue ?? I'm having a similar problem, I
already have the system installed on a separate disk, now I want to make the
filesystem on the RAID partition (using 3Ware 9500S-8).
First I had the problem that the card will keep resetting after continous

3ware 9550SXU-4LP performance
Hi, I used xen-3.0.2-2 (2.6.16) before and the performance of my 3ware
9550SXU-4LP wasn''t too bad, but now with 3.0.3.0 (2.6.16.29) throughput
decreased by about 10MB/sec in write performance.

CentOS 6.0 and 3ware 9650SE series RAID Performance
Hello,
Does anyone have experience using a 3ware 9650SE series raid controller on
CentOS 6.0?
I am getting very sporadic throughput with moderately sized files (0.5-2GB)
on ext3. I have tried most of the mount time tuning options:
* noatime
* trying different journal types
* setting commit=120 - helped a little
Even after these optimizations it doesn't seem like the raid array is
working

FreeBSD/ZFS/S3FS usage and development questions
I've noticed that the samba-tool ntacl sysvolreset --use-s3fs command does
not work on a ZFS filesystem on FreeBSD. It does work if sysvol is moved
to a volume that is able to be mounted with the acls flag.
I will reference a ticket I started with FreeNAS here:
https://bugs.freenas.org/issues/4351
As of version 9.2.1.1 s3fs is now the default using the workaround known
for FreeBSD.
