Patch: Inbound-only busydetect
Hi there, I got really tired of false hangups, specially when someone calls from SIP/IAX/whatever to PSTN, which makes no sense in using busydetect in the zap channel, as the caller will eventually hear the busy tones and hangup, causing the zap channel to be "freed" as well... After suggesting that the busy detect be enabled only for inbound calls, and finding other people that think

Live migration: 2500ms downtime
Hi there, I''ve read the paper on Xen live migration, and it shows some very impressive figures, like 165ms downtime on a running web server, and 50ms for a quake3 server. I installed CentOS 5 on 2 servers, each with 2x Xeon E5335 (quad-core), 2x Intel 80003ES2LAN Gb NICs. Then I installed 2 DomUs, also with CentOS 5. One NIC is connected to the LAN (on the same switch and VLAN), the

Free WWT (WorldWideTelco): Utopia, or just a matter of organization?
I had this idea, and after looking for something like this already in progress, I found another guy who tried to start it... But I was unable to contact him, and his project seems to be dead. But, I believe it is possible, and I wanted to know the opinion of the experienced... So, let's go: I got an asterisk server setup to receive free calls from US to Brazil. The problem is that at my work,

Putting a call on hold
Hi, How do I put a call on hold? If i press # the music on hold plays to the other person, but asterisk asks for a number to transfer... I don't want to transfer, I simply want to put the person on hold, so he/she can hear the music while I do something, then get them off hold. Is it possible? The scenario: The person calls me from a SIP phone, and I receive the call in a regular PSTN phone,

IAX not binding to the right port
First, I am surprised at IAX... My asterisk server is behind a firewall, I am behind a firewall, and my iax client connected... Voodoo??? :) But, the firewall has one unblocked port, which I think I should set to the IAX, so the magic won't be necessary, and it makes sense to think that there will be less latency without the "magic layer". But, when I set port=myport in the

Horrible BUZZZZ noise when sounds/music play on SIP phone?
Hi, I've recently set Asterisk up, 1.0.2 version. With 1 x X100P card and 1 SIP phone. I've noticed some horrible buzz/rasping type of sounds! These seem to occur when * is trying to play back some audio or sound to me? E.g. If I have an exten rule which plays one of the music on hold files when I dial 800 lets say, I get a really loud buzz for about 2 seconds and then the music plays.

SER + Asterisk
Hi there, I've seen people using SER with Asterisk. I took a look at SER website, and I didn't see the point in using it, since Asterisk already handles SIP very well (apparently, at least). But, as I'm starting, and some of you (more experienced) use it, I know that there's something there... So I would like to know why to use SER. Is it because of scalability, performance,

GSM / Radio
Hi there, I was looking for a GSM gateway, but I didn't find any prices... Anybody knows how much one of these costs? And, is it possible to use an amateur radio with asterisk? Thanks, Marconi.

Really, really loud ringers
Anyone have some recommended equipment for alerting people to calls in a noisy environment? I have Polycom IP550 phones set up in some really noisy environments - our mine hoists - and they tend to drown out the ringers. I'm using Clarity WR100s now. They're analog devices, attached to Linksys PAP2T ATAs as part of a call group to get a loud (advertised as 95dB) ring out there, but it

Very loud noise on TDM400
I am having a problem with and Asterisk installation where two ports connected to a TDM400 card will have a very loud noise when you try to dial. The server has an OpenVox D110P, a TDM04B and a Xorcom Astribank 8 fxs. It is running Zaptel 1.4.11 and Asterisk 1.4.18. The problem always happens with two ports (34 and 35) which are connected to two GSM gateways. They will work fine for a week

Loud noise instead of MOH
Hi Everybody, I'm experiencing this kind of issue. One ASTERISK 1.2.17 is connected to a Bristuffed HFC single ISDN channel card. Everything seems to work but sometimes the third party caller when listening to MOH listens some "SSHHHHH!" instead of MOH, this is not continuos, MOH plays ok for, say, 20 seconds then the sound and then another 30 seconds of good MOH. We have some

How many X100P's in a system..
I know the recommendation it to not run more than 2 T/E100P's in a system but what about X100P's.. Usually there are 5 PCI slots in a system, has anyone tried 5 x X100P's in a system? Red Alarm
Hi list, Sometimes I receive a Red Alarm in my E1 trunk (E&M immediate start signaling), and just few seconds after this, all alarms are cleared. This problem ocurrs many times/day, and if are calls in progress, these calls just hang-up. Could it be an asterisk bug? Or may I contact the PSTN provider? Thanks Eduardo

Zaptel and Linux Distros
Hey all, Just a quick question. Are there any known issues using the zaptel drivers on different linux distros? ie: is a 2.4 kernel the only requirement? I ask because I have an X100P i'm still trying to get work properly and I'm thinking there is nothing wrong with the card itself. It's setup correctly as far as I can tell and it used to work when I was using RedHat 8 and

Buzzing / Humming Noise
Hi Lately I've been having problem with the handsets on the polycom phones. The agents are complaining that the humming/buzzing can be heard on random days. When the agents touch their computer the buzzing may increase louder or reduced. Also when they grab the handset cable, the buzzing noise is less loud and is loud again when I let it go. I have tried changing the handsets, problem not
