USB Disk
I put a new server together with CentOS 4. This server is doing a number
of functions including ntp, mail, and web server. I had a USB drive
plugged in and it was working great. I could access it at /media/usbdisk
and I copied lots of data to it.
I felt the server was "complete" so I wanted to move it. I shut it down,
moved it, etc. Everything is ok, except that I cannot access the

wine: /intended/PREFIXdirectory/not owned by you
I am attempting to create a folder for my wineprefixes on my external hard disk. The plan is to symlink to that location from inside my user folder (ie. ~/.wine/PREFIXES -> $iomega/.wineprefixes)
For reference:
$iomega=/media/Iomega_HDD
This is a 400GB external drive with a single NTFS partition.
The plan is to create folders for all my WINEPREFIXes at $iomega/.wineprefixes

chgrp problem
I'm using a comand like
rsync -av directory /media/usbdisk/
to backup to a usb device (on a Fedora 5 machine). I'm getting 100s of messages like
rsync: chgrp "/media/usbdisk/file" failed: Operation not permitted (1)
and then at the end
rsync error: some files could not be transferred.
How do I fix this? Why is rsync trying to change the group? And is the message at

Mounting Network Storage Issues
I have an Iomega NAS 1TB drive that I am using as just kind of a file
sharing solution between all of my computers.
Of course it is on a timed backup with my server however it just serves as a
temporary solution for a bigger problem ( IE 15 different puters of all
various OS Flavors).
However I am not able to connect to any network storage server such as
Windows PC's or NAS Storage using map

Usb disk no longer shows in GUI
I have a USB disk and when I turned it on in the past, it's icon would
appear on my GUI Desktop. Now it is no longer visible. In terminal
mode, if I do a cd to /media/usbdisk, all of my data is there.
What am I missing here?

USB Pendrive automounting
My USB Pendrive gets mounted everytime I put it on the USB port (/dev/sda on
/media/usbdisk). This behaviour is the desired.
Now I want the OS to automaticaly include the mount option
iocharset=iso8859-1 everytime it mounts it.
Is there a way to tell haldaemon (or other software) do this, instead of
hand-editing /etc/fstab ?

Boot USB:SATA:Partition4 from USBstik?
I want to be able to make a USBbootStik for my laptop, as I repeatedly
did for the now stolen PC.
I've got a copy of the required 2009, Slackware13 partition, saved to a
USBdisk. And I've located the 175-line: <make bootStik script> .
Of course just "chroot"ing Slak13, won't allow <make bootStik>.
But why can't someone here, provide the info to make an

Entry server hardware
Hello,
I would like some advice on a SATA RAID controller that is able to work
in a 32 bit/33mhz PCI slot. I have been looking for a while but all I
can find is 64 bit cards that cost over $300. I just need it to mirror 2
drives, and of course work in Centos 4.2. I am not looking for RAID 5
or anything like that. All the cards I find that would do this are
fakeraid.
Also, has anyone used

I/O errors when backing up from ext3 to UDF
Hi. I'm trying to back up from an ext3 filesystem to an IOMega Rev USB
cartridge drive, which uses a UDF filesystem. It appears to the system
as /dev/scd0, but can be mounted in R/W mode.
I get a bunch of errors like this:

portable ogg hardware update
Does anyone know of any updates in the portable ogg support category? How's the iRiver evaluation unit scenario working out (http://www.xiph.org/ogg/vorbis/hardware.html) ? Can I safely assume that any retail product being available by Christmas falls in to the "Snowballs chance in... a very warm place" category.
Also, I happen to be one of the (apparently) few people who purchased

Boots from prompt but not from syslinux.cfg
Hi,
I have a problem with syslinux.cfg. I can boot successfully by typing
on the boot: prompt but not from an entry in syslinux.cfg.
The command line is
boot: vmlinuz initrd=dvzip1.img root=/dev/ram ramdisk_size=8192<enter>
However if I enter the label of the kernel to boot, it fails to run
/sbin/init and in its absence /sbin/sh. The kernel boots correctly but

simple incremental backup woes. solutions?
Hi all,
I've finally hit rsync limit. As someone already addressed the problem in this list the problem regards the impossibility for rsync to rename directories.
The situation is as follow:
every night I backup my samba dir with this command:
rsync -ab --suffix=-`date +%F-%H%M` --filter="protect *-[0-9][0-9][0-9][0-9]-[0-9][0-9]-[0-9][0-9]-[0-9][0-9][0-9][0-9]" --delete

HipZip support?
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
Hash: SHA1
Hello vorbis,
I know that hipzip/Dadio support was planned - does anyone have any
idea what the status of this is due to iomega's discontinuing of the
Hipzip product line?
Is there any way we can add ogg support to our hipzip's in the
future if Interactive Objects adds it to Dadio ?
