install.packages hangs RGui with frozen rpwd process at bottom of process tree (PR#13734)

I've just spent a hellish six hours trying to create my own R package with a
bare bones "hello world" R function inside. I was able to create a
package.tar.gz file eventually with much perseverance.
My remaining problem is that when I try to install my simple package under RGui,
it hangs.

Red Hat patch kills streaming
Has anyone else seen this? I patched my Red Hat box yesterday with the
Red Hat 2.4.18-4 kernel patch. It was fine until I rebooted and then the
new kernel failed. It still came up with the old kernel. No biggee, we
were in a blackout time anyway since we are not allowed to stream
certain national broadcasts, so I re-installed just to try out something
new.
I patched the kernel with all the

Sound failure in CentOS 6.8
Sound stopped working on my CentOS 6.8 system several months ago. I've tried
everything I can to find out what's wrong. It is not the hardware; if I boot
into a live dvd of 6.8 (or any other OS), the sound works perfectly. So
something must have changed in my configuration.
I've compared files on my system and another CentOS 6.8 system with working
sound and I haven't found

Samba4. Unable to join to client machines.
Hi!
First poster ahoy, be gentle with me. I've been fiddling around with
Samba4, using the (pretty nifty) howto at wiki.samba.org. I've followed
it through and provisioned the active directory, I've run all the tests
and everything seems good. Kerberos responds as it should, dynamic DNS
seems to be doing its thing (nothing untoward shows up with
samba_dnsupdate --verbose) and

How do you pronounce 'Ogg Vorbis'?
Greets,
Every linux user that sets up a sound card using sndconfig heres Linus
pronouncing "Linux" - I confess that's how I learned to pronounce it
right, until then I prononced it 'l-EYE-nucks' - I was wondering -
what's the correct pronounciation of 'Ogg Vorbis'?
I pronounce it 'OOOg' (a long 'O' sound or a portuguese 'U' if you

Opus on MIPS performance
Hi All,
First time poster to this group, please ignore my ignorance?
I?m trying to use Opus 1.1 on a 400MHz MIPS 24k CPU (AR9331, specifically, like in the Arduino Yun).
I?ve successfully built (I think) opus-1.1 and opus-tools-1.8 and they run, but are dog slow.
opus-1.1 does have the ?enable-fixed-point option set, as this chip only has soft-float.
My short test file (less than one

Error "the condition has length > 1 and only the first element will be used"
Ahoy. I'm trying to run a function for each country in a multinational
dataset. Keeping it simple, an example is
for(j in 11:14) {
if(data$country_str == "j") {
mu <- mean(data$ecdfs1)
} else {
mu <- 0
}
}
The number of countries is greater and the functions are more complex, but
this fails just the same. The consistent error is

table sorting
Ahoy,
I checked the API and did some forum searches but didn''t find anything
good on table sorting.
Is there a "railish" way to do this? My current method really is lacking
(i''m on like rails day 2)

New to rails - scaffold command , how to get related items?
Ahoy,
I was able to follow the tutorials and build a simple to-do list program
with Items and Categories and have the related tables link up w/ the
default "scaffold :Items" command plus custom defenitions.
Then I erased all of that and tried rebuilding the program using the
ruby script/generate scaffold Item (and category) command.
Now the templates look like

Prototype Rating System
Ahoy!
Has there been any work done so far toward creating an icon rating system on
the prototype base like the ones found in Netflix or from Yahoo Patterns? (
http://developer.yahoo.net/ypatterns/pattern_ratinganobject.php)
I could hack one together but it would be crude un-patch-worthy javascript,
I was wondering if anybody else had started work on something like it.

httr::content without message
Ahoy!
That's a message generated by the readr::read_table() function (or it's friends). You can suppress it a number of ways, but this should work as httr::content() will pass through arguments, like col_types = cols(), to the file reader.
junk <- httr::content(r1, col_types = cols())
See more here...

acts_as_taggable confused
Ahoy,
So i''ve installed the acts_as_taggable module and everything is fine,
but i''m a bit confused about this bit of code described in the API
"photo = Photo.new
# splits and adds to the tags collection
photo.tag "wine beer alcohol"
# don''t need to split since it''s an array, but replaces the tags
collection

where do certain rake commands reside
Ahoy,
I''m trying to find where the
rake db:migrate , db:fixtures
and other rake commands are in the actual source code.
I''m using edge rails , just being a bit crazy and reading source code
all day and can''t find those.
Any hints?

problem with windows program in linux in virtual machine...
Hi,
I'm a complete linux newbie, let alone wine, easy-peasy and netbooks.
Having said that, I'm looking at buying the eee pc 701 sd and putting easy-peasy on it.
However the reason I need a netbook is to run a cricket scoring program that is only available in windows.
I didn't want to fork out for the netbook until I knew the cricket software will run, so I tried the following:
