Cisco 7960g
I'm trying to set-up Asterisk server and I would like to buy 2 SIP
phones.
Has anybody tried Cisco 7960G? Or 7940?
What audio compressions can I use with this phone and Asterisk? Reason
why I'm asking is because Cisco supports G.711 and G.729a audio
compression (probobaly some tohers but they are not listed on data
sheet) and on Asterisk features i found that it supports G.729 but need

For the Australian Asterisk users
I've noticed that a few people here are from Australia.
I'm wondering where you all get your hardware from. I'll probably order some
of the X100P cards from Digium soon (and possibly some FXO cards), but for
other things such as ATAs, etc.
However - these obviously aren't ACA compliant. Does anybody know of
compatible hardware (for POTS lines) that is ACA compliant?

OS79XX.TXT from my TFTP server but then goes on to repetedly ask for
SEP<MACaddr>.cnf.

Cisco CallManager Image for 7940/7960
Does anyone have the .bin file(s) to convert a Cisco 7940/7960 back to the CallManager image?
I want to start playing around with the chan_skinny addition, but it seems the .exe's from cisco want to open a connection to a SQL server or CallManager (which I don't have).

Newbie questions.....
Hi.....
I have just successfully setup Asterisk with 2 Cisco 7940 phones (converted
for SIP) and a SIP softphone on a W2K box.....and it all seems to work very
well.....to those who wrote this software, it is really cool.
Anyway, I am new to this software, and I have a lot of questions which I am
hoping someone on the mailing list might be able to answer for me.....I am
basically trying to

Skinny and CISCO 7905G
Hello,
I tried to configure a cisco 7905 IP phone using the skinny channel but
I had not much luck.
The relevant portion of skinny.conf is:

callerid="Alex" <123-456-789>
mailbox=500
callwaiting=1
transfer=1
context=default
threewaycalling=1
line => 500 ; Dial(Skinny/500@cisco1)
I set up the tftp server, and prepared the following

Cisco 7960G, Skinny.conf, and reboots
I could use some skinny/Cisco help here. Was finally able to get the phone
registered to * but whenever someone tries to call that phone it freezes and
reboots itself. Same thing happens when you pick the handset up off the
7960G; it locks and reboots about 5 sec later.
Here is what * shows when I plug the phone in:

Hi all,
I'm writing my graduation theses : analysis VO-IP protocols , and I cannot
find any documents about Cisko Skinny Client Control Protocol. I have Cisco
CallManager and some IP-phone and I'm sniffing traffic between that, but I
don't understand, how this protocol works. Clearly i'm looking for
description of SCCP commands and explanation some basic SCCP scenarios or

Do I need a CH1 licence for Cisco Phones ?
I've got a question regarding Cisco IP Phones and licencing.
When using a third party PBX like asterisk is a licence required for the
Cisco phones ? Has anyone got anything in writing from Cisco to clarify this
?
Eg can I just use CP-7961G or do I need CP-7961G-CH1 even though I'm not
using Cisco Callmanager ?

Asterisk Capabilities
I am new to Asterisk and currently work mainly with Cisco Callmanager.
With Callmanager I can setup partitions and call search spaces to
determine where a given phone can and can't dial. Does Asterisk offer
this type of functionality, and if so how?

Cisco 7960 SIP + 7914
I found a few mentions of the 7914 being used with Asterisk, these all
covered SCCP/skinny though. Does anyone know if the 7914 can even be
used with SIP? If so, any pointers? Is it a services thing? Anyone get
the operator (line/extension status) to work with it. Thanks for the
help, Cisco doesn't even mention ANYTHING about SIP + the 7914.

Cisco 7960
Anyone know if it is possible to load your own XML scripts on to the
phone, bypassing the Cisco CallManager? I am still waiting for my
phone to arrive, but I have been playing with Cisco's phone services
emulator, and that doesn't seem to like anything I pass to it.
If it is possible, anyone want to share any sample scripts they have.

SIP kpml DTMF support in *
Hi,
I'm trying to connect Asterisk 1.4 and Cisco CallManager 5 using SIP
Trunk without MTP (media termination point). Howerver, Cisco 79xx phones
do not support RFC2833, they always notify CCM5 via SKINNY channel no
matter where they send RTP to.
For non-MTP trunk there's Out-of-band DTMF support in CCM5 called
"kpml". I wonder if Asterisk can support it.
I found an

OT: SIP vs. Skinny protocol
I assume there are several people on this list that
have Cisco Call Manager implementations under their
belt....
We are beginning a call manager implementation and
the first question I asked Cisco was, should we use
SIP or Skinny. Cisco is pushing me towards Skinny,
saying that I will lose some functionality with SIP.
They also say that most of their customers implement
skinny.
