Cisco 7960 SIP - DND soft key toggle?
Running the latest * CVS and Cisco 7960G and 7940G phones with SIP 6.3 image.
I have figured out how to turn on the DND feature through the
Settings>Call Preferences>Do Not Disturb - Yes then Save. This puts the
phone into DND On and shows a DND image above the far right soft key which
you use to turn off DND.
There should be a better way. An on/off toggle of the soft key that it

Playing GSM files in Windows
For the archives...
In trying to play GSM files in Windows (Windows XP for me, but in
general) I found no help on Google, so when I figured it out I thought I
would post it here.
Q: How do I play GSM Files in Windows?
A: Use Quicktime, it supports the GSM audio format directly.

Asterisk H323 Trunk
During debugging of H323 trunk side (using Jeremy Macnamara's H323
driver in ~/channels/h323) a couple of things come don't quite work
as advertised...
1/ the following line in extensions.conf explicitly sets the
outgoing caller ID (required in my case for downstream GK
processing..)
exten => _1NX.,1,SetCallerID,6400047602100

E164 caller ID
Is there a proper and accepted way to go about setting an E164 compliant
caller ID (ANI) ?
Currently, we're using just the Set(CALLERID(num)=XX) where XX is some E164
compliant number like 3539146632431 or some such.
Is there another way we should be doing that or is that proper?

GSM/DECT handsets (was gsm picocells)
Now that I actually try and google for it, I can't find any dual mode
GSM/DECT handsets, only pages telling me that they exist without any
actual information!!!
Does anyone know of any such handsets? (and even better, ones that are
available in Australia) I've searched a few of the major gsm
manufacturers (nokia, Panasonic, sonyericsson) but their web sites are
absolutely pathetic to the

Changing caller id on transfer
As usual, this is most likely a easy question, but here it goes any way:
How can I change the caller id on a transferred call so the called party
knows the call has been transferred from a colleague and it's not coming
directly from our outside lines?
The story goes like this:
1) Client calls. All phones ring.
2) Someone picks up the phone.
3) The phone gets transferred to someone.
4) The

Getting caller-name - cid_rewrite 1.0.0
Hi folks, I think my little agi script is ready for the big one-oh-oh.
Available at http://muware.com/asterisk is cid_rewrite-1.0.0. This
agi-script does the following:
- Standardize incoming caller-id numbers to adhere to US dialing code;
NANPA numbers are reformatted to 1+10, international numbers become
011<country-code><number> (this is customizable with a little PHP
knowledge).

Hang up not hanging up (New Zealand Indications??)
Hi there,
I have a new asterisk working in New Zeland and everything is working
well except when an incoming call to the PSTN hangs up, asterisk wont
hang up the zap trunk (X100P).
I have found this information:
http://bugs.digium.com/bug_view_page.php?bug_id=0001474
Which discusses my problem and i have made sure that i have the latest
info in the indications.conf as follows:

Caller ID spoofing
Hello everybody!
I am having the following problem and since I am a beginner in playing
with asterisk, i can't solve it:
I am trying to integrate my existing H.323 network in real world
telephony by ISDN cards. The problem is that i DON'T want to change all
e164 numbers in my h.323 network and my ISDN provider doesn't accept
those identities (CIDs). So, i have to spoof the outgoing

Grandstream Budgetone 100 Caller ID shows extension, not incoming Caller ID
I've looked through the archives - and see questions similar to mine,
but no answers. What, if anything, can be done to get the incoming
Caller ID to be presented on the Budgetone's Caller ID display? In all
other respects the phone+Asterisk seem to be extremely happy with each
other.

Displaying incoming e.164 callers number - how?
I've got asterisk able to make and receive calls via the Internet via
E164 lookups. If I get such a call - I'd like to display the original
phone number on my phone. In the log is the following - which displayed
'601' on my phone. The caller was +886288097680 - am I getting the wrong
ClID because of my end or the caller end?

EVERY toll free number appears to be in e164.org??
ENUM lookups at e164.org return a IP route for ALL toll-free numbers.
I was surprised to observe that ALL toll-free numbers get a hit at e164.org.
It appears that ALL toll-free prefixes have been delegated, thereby
publishing an IP route for YOUR TOLL-FREE NUMBERS, my toll-free numbers, and
even toll-free numbers that have not been allocated. :-) See below
Should I care? Even though this

e164.org proudly announces PSTN support
e164.org is a public name service which provides ENUM.164, a method
devised by the IETF and ITU to allow an ordinary telephone to be
connected to an Internet type network and provided dialling service from
other, regular telephones.
Unlike many other "free" voice over IP systems, e164.org allows users
who have a regular telephone line, to also hook themselves up to the

e164.org
So I just saw this VoIP-centric article at slashdot
(http://slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=04/05/22/1840220) which mentions
e164.org. It's a "non-profit public DNS root designed to map phone numbers
to Internet protocols." Is anyone on this list actually using this?
They have asterisk config instructions:

I wonder if someone can help me understand

add 0 (zero) to incoming callerID - how?
I have an asterisk box and SIP / IAX2 phones.
To call out, users have to add 0 (zero) before a real telephone number.
That means, that if they want to call someone that has a number 123456,
they have to call 0-123456.
Simple, right?
This has a serious drawback though - when someone calls us from the
number 123456, we see the callerID 123456, and we're unable to use the
callback/redial

Problems with Outbound Calls
Hi everyone!
I'm quite a newbie at this Asterisk stuff so please bear with me.
We've recently decided to start training in Asterisk via AsteriskNow!
Asterisk version is 1.4.18.1 through AsteriskNow! 1.02
The box we have is paired with a Digium TE110P and we've managed to get
it to the point where incoming calls via a single DID (from NTT Japan)
can be received and answered

ENUM lookup help
Hello everyone,
I playing around with ENUM and have configured * to query a few sources
for testing purposes (fierymoon, e164.arpa, e164.org). I'd like to know
if there is a way to query these servers manually (ie outside of
asterisk via nslookup or equivalent) to find out if particular exchanges
are listed with wildcards, so as to terminate calls to those prefixes
