Compiling lirc on centos 4.1
Karanbir, I am still having problems. I grabbed the rpm and installed it. I could not get a /dev/lircd device. I put the lirc.rules in /etc/udev/... even rebooted and still not there. I then grabbed the src rpm, went through the normal stuff and tried to run ./configure and it tells me I need the kernel source installed. I have the kernel source installed. I am just selecting the default of

CPAN module install problem
I could use some assistance getting CPAN functional again. CPAN stopped working on Centos 4.2 x64, and I can no longer install modules. I did a install Bundle::CPAN and upgraded to 1.8.2, and perl was updated afterwards via yum update. The error seems related to GPG, does anyone know if 1.8.2 added new restrictions on signatures? $ sudo perl -MCPAN -e shell cpan shell -- CPAN exploration

Packages
I am in need of the udunits and udunits-devel packages. I know I remember seeing the udunits package on the CD's but don't recall seeing the udunits-devel. Looking at the rpm-pbone.net, I only found versions avilable for FC. Would it break a bunch of stuff to install both packages on a 4.1-i386 system ? Also looked via yum, at Dag's repository, and mirrors, but nothing shows

mod_bandwidth
Is there a compiled mod_bandwidth rpm in CentOS or EPEL? I can't seem to find it, what name does it use if there is one? Basically all I need to do is find a way to severely throttle apache for testing an upload progress bar - my bandwidth on my lan is too fast, the progress bar either only gets one update or none by the time the files are uploaded (5 8 megapixel jpegs) - even when I use

TinyCA2 on rpmforge EL4 but not EL5
I want to install TinyCA2 on my Centos5 setup. I had a real learning experience the last time around (last year, July) and in the end, I got the repo down from Dag's site and was cool. Now I am on Centos 5 and no TinyCA2. Can I just download the EL4 rpm from: http://apt.sw.be/redhat/el4/en/i386/dag/repodata/repoview/tinyca2-0-0.7.5-2.el4.rf.html and do a yum localinstall ? Or do I have

How do I create a clean build environment?
I get interesting results on this one. If I run rpm -q -a | grep i386 as root, I get this: nspluginwrapper-i386-0.9.91.1-1 If I run as my local non-root user, I get this: libgcc-3.4.6-3.i386 libselinux-1.19.1-7.2.i386 libstdc++-3.4.6-3.i386 krb5-libs-1.3.4-33.i386 dbus-glib-0.22-12.EL.7.i386 flash-plugin-9.0.31.0-release.i386 libart_lgpl-2.3.16-3.i386

Gnome CD/DVD Burner?
Hi all, Wondering if this might be a good item for either CentOSPlus or even Extras repository. I've been looking for a decent CD/DVD burner for Gnome.... at present I load up k3b (KDE app) and thus much of the KDE environment). Someone pointed me to GraveMan (http://www.nongnu.org/graveman/ ) which looks very good. All reports is that it's lean, mean and quite stable. Anyone else

(?) Dangling ssh-agent processes with GNOME
I recently noticed a LOT of ssh-agent processes running on my system (CentOS 4.2). It seems that the ssh-agent gets started before the session manager (in /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc-common) which is great. The only problem is that the agent process does not die when the session shuts down. I run ssh-add in my session startup to get my key loaded into ssh-agent, so that might be part of the issue.

Using YUM
I haven't configured YUM . How do I do it? Sorry if this is a really stupid question, but I have no idea about it. Moreover, I would also like to use APT afterwards. I really want to try both of these. I have used apt-get before many a times, but never used YUM. Can anybody post the procedure to get this working? Which repositories to be added, how it is to be configured? And yes, how do i
