openSuSE 10.3 compiz loads with white screen for 1 user
Listmates,
I have an interesting problem with compiz on openSuSE 10.3. On a 4 user
system, compiz loads with a blank white desktop. The desktop begins to
load and you can see the desktop background, then it goes completely
blank white. The mouse cursor is visible, but nothing else. You can spin
the cube, no caps are present, but the mouse is non responsive otherwise

Screen blanks after initial setup (Centos 5)
Hi,
The installation process went without noticable problems; this is
true to the setup phase immediately after the installtion.
However: after pressing "Finish" in the Setup Agent the screen
blanked on me - Ctrl-Alt-F1, Ctrl-Alt-F2, Ctrl-Alt-backspace,
Ctrl-Alt-Del didn't help. Nada.
Did someone else have encountered this? Any recommendations?
Thanks in advance.

Can up2date use a local yum mirror?
If so, how do you configure the up2date client that comes with CentOS
to look at the local yum mirror? Conversely, how do you disable the
CentOS Network Alert Notification Tool so that users won't see the
"throbbing red circle" and be tempted to launch the up2date client?
Thanks,
Alfred

Backspace key is sending Delete after update to 4.4 (tcsh issue?)
Maybe it was always sending Delete and I didn't notice it, but I have
had the following in my .tcshrc file for ages (without realizing it):
bindkey -b ^? i-search-back
Before the update to 4.4, hitting the backspace key at the shell
prompt deleted the previous character. Now it activates the search
backwards function as instructed to do so by the bindkey directive.

df command reports inaccurate results?
Can anyone help make sense of this? This is an ext3 partition. It's
only showing 403GB out of 426GB used, but then it says only 632MB
available? Where'd the extra ~25GB go?

Vim - In INSERT Mode, the Backspace key does not work
Hi All,
I'm not very good with Vim.
I noticed when it is in INSERT Mode, the backspace key no longer works.
How to do I configure it so that it will work with the backspace key?
Any ideas?
Thanks

SSH in and my terminal keystrokes are weird.......
Hi All,
I upgraded to OS X 10.7 on my laptop and when I try to ssh into my servers
and do edits it seems my backspace is now weird. When I backspace it skips
all around, inserts what looks to be special characters, etc. If I save and
go back in the file edited right, but due to all the inserted garbage and
skipping around of the cursor I cant tell at that time if what I did worked.
I dont recall

Problems with input and AIX
I noticed an odd side effect of the different implementations of
backspace (erase) through clients such as PuTTY and SecureCRT and the
input functions like fgets (I noticed this originally in ssh-keygen).
On our AIX system, if the option to use ^? as the backspace key is
chosen, fgets will actually put the control code for 'DEL' in the buffer
(0x7f) instead of deleting the last character

Rcmdr GUI goes into loop via alt+backspace under Windows OS
I'm using Rcmdr version 1.4-10 with R version 2.9.0 under Vista x64.
A standard editing convention under Windows is that alt+backspace is a
keyboard shortcut for "undo". I often find myself hitting the [alt] and
[backspace] keys while editing scripts in Rcmdr. However, this causes the
Rcmdr GUI to go into a crazy mode where the menu keeps flashing and the GUI
is unresponsive.

backspace key doesn't work correctly
When I am running R, the backspace key deletes the whole word instead of
one character.
Before I start R, and after I exit R, the backspace key works as it
should in my xterm terminal window.
This gets really annoying since I make a lot of mistakes while typing
and don't always want to retype the whole word.
This behavior only occurs while running R.
Any ideas on how to fix this.

network prob on Centos 4.4/HP DL320 G2
Hi!
I've installed Centos 4.4 on a machine at work (it's a HP Proliant DL-320 G2
rackmout server that serves my desktop).
In recent days (Centos 4.4 has only been installed for a little over a
week), like, since Wed or Thu last week, every time I reboot Kudzu wants
to remove the network adaptors then reinstall them and breaks the network.
I've gone to the point of disabling one of

Friday VUC 12 Noon ET with Kristian Kielhofner: Identifying Asterisk Quality Issues
Happy New Year in advance by a few ticks for the northern hemisphere.
Here's the first topic and guest for 2009:

Hi,
when mixing newline and backspace characters I get the following output
(see below). In the second call, the backspace character is simply not

Thank you.

How to display the IP on the welcome screen
Hi all,
I'm running CentOS 5.4 in a VMware guest, with the host connected to a DHCP
enabled LAN
When CentOS comes up, I would like to see the IP adress displayed on the
welcome screen.
This would save me the hassle of logging in the VM, getting the IP, and
logging off before finally ssh'ing to the VM.
Does anyone have a clue on how to do this ??
Thanks!
PS: security is not an issue as
