as.integer question
Hi R People: I'm reading "Statistical Computing with R", by Maria Rizzo, and it's really good. Anyhow, I have a question about something in there. > u <- runif(5) > u [1] 0.1177041 0.4271790 0.4601597 0.2204846 0.4051473 > #in the book > sum(as.integer(u > 0.4)) [1] 3 > #what I would do > sum(u > 0.4) [1] 3 > Is one way better than the other,

Bug in by() function which works for some FUN argument and does not work for others
Dear All, Thanks for your help. However, I would like to draw your attention to the following: Actually, I was replicating the Example 2.3, using the dataset "brainsize.txt" given in Section 2.3.3 ("Summarize by group") at page 55, of a famous book "R by Example" written by "Jim Albert and Maria Rizzo" published in Springers (2012) in a Use R! Series. The

dovecot proxy with nopassword and postfix sasl
HI All I have setup a dovecot proxy with remote auth, value nopassword in the passdb to make the auth remotely. With pop3 and imap the authentication is made on the remote server and this work perfectly. I have tested with wrong and correct password. Then I have added the postfix sasl and this also works fine, the request is made to dovecot. My problem is that with this method I can give any

Bug in by() function which works for some FUN argument and does not work for others
Dear All, I have got your core message, that it is my responsibility to determine whether any particular function in my version of R satisfies the language requirements at the time of your use. Jim Albert and Maria Rizzo must have used their code, which was permitted in the R-code of their time (2012). Therefore, I have now modified my R-code, as per R-3..2.4 version, according to my requirement

Strange Zaptel Modprobe driver failure
Hello, my first post to the list. I have started to install and play with Asterisk. I was following some basic instructions to 'jump-start' my system. I have a TDM400P with one port and a X100P. I am running the latest CVS versions (from today). Following the steps I found for basic jump-start I did the following: Modprobe zaptel Modprobe wcfxo Modprobe wcfxs Edited

Equal bandwidth configuration among host with dummynet
Hi all, First of all, I have spent a lot of time reading up on it. Anyway, I live in a shared accomodation with 2 roommates and a landlord and we share a cable internet connection. It is 2Mbit/400Kbit connection. Sometimes when one of us is downloading a song through Kazaa or a new Linux or FreeBSD iso, the bandwidth gets hogged and other users can't get through. I was trying to configure

Installing R and an editor on a USB drive
Hi, I have adviced my students to install R and an editor on a USB drive for working in the computer class. With R everything works fine following these instructions: http://personal.bgsu.edu/~mrizzo/Rmisc/usbR.htm. But several editors (e.g., Tinn-R and WinEdt) require administrator rights. I have found out that Emacs (Vincent Goulet's Emacs for Windows Modified
