Recycle Bin disappeared (GNOME, CentOS 5.5, 32 bit)
Probably this is due to operator error, The Recycle Bin in GNOME
disappeared, for this CentOS 5.5 (32 bit) Desktop PC. The box is fully
updated.
Is there a command I can use, or another procedure, to get the Recycle
Bin in GNOME working again?
The .trash folder is there.
Incredibly rare that I use the KDE Desktop, but it is also installed
on this box and the Trash folder (like the Recycle Bin

Is Gnome in CentOS 5 ready for nfsv4?
Hello,
all my data are hosted by a server and exported with nfsv4. For example
if a user logs in on a client, /home and /data are exported with nfsv4
and autofs. Now if the user delete some files, the trashcan under
gnome doesn't change its status nor doesn't show the deleted files if
opening the trashcan window.
Also the user isn't able to copy or move files between the exported

centos 5.5--gnome desktop--all icons disappeared.
gang, I feel dumb having to ask this...
I've got a Centos 5.5 installation (it's not new, I've been using it for
over a year on this machine) and all of a sudden just a few minutes ago
everything on the gnome desktop disappeared. no icons, right-click doesn't
bring up a context menu. the panels are still there, though, thank goodness.
tried logging off and back on but that

Nautilus / Desktop Icons
Hi,
I've a nautilus problem with CentOS 4. It doesn't show the desktop
items any more (also after dropping all gnome files/dirs from a users
homedir) en the right mouse button menu also doesn't work.
Googling around I've found various items about the problem but until now
not a clear solution. Some people mention some 'browser mode in nautilus
preferences'. But I

Are these steps for re-installing Gnome correct/safe?
My desktop environment has become a little chaotic, and, long story
short, I would like to uninstall KDE and Gnome, and then reinstall
Gnome. (I want to remove KDE for the time being because I just don't
think I want it taking up space on my hard drive).
The thing is, I don't want to throw the baby out with the bathwater. For
instance, I want to make sure I don't lose settings in

Clearlooks & Bluecurve icons missing from Centos 6
The Clearlooks and Bluecurve icon directories that were provided
under Centos 5 that have disappeared on Centos 6. Clearlooks icons were
provided by gnome-themes-2.16.0-1.fc6 and has disappeared with
gnome-themes-2.28.1-6.el6.noarch, and Bluecurve icons were provided by
redhat-artwork-5.1.0-28.el5.centos, which doesn't appear to exist at all with
Centos 6.
Were these icons removed for a

[fdo] Integration of network-softwares like samba, nfs and sftp with the desktop
Hi there,
I would like to enable the desktop user to create shared folders, for
example using protocols like Samba, nfs and sftp.
For the user to make this possible, the user needs (on a Linux machine
configured with the defaults of most current Linux distributions) root
privileges.
However. In a desktop environment, in my humble opinion the possibility
for a normal user to configure a simple

Replicate desktop configuration for other users using /etc/skel
Hi,
The subject says it all. I'd like to copy my own custom desktop
configuration for other users on the machine without having to go
manually through the hassle.
Here's a non-exhaustive list of what I usually tweak :
* Theme + icons
* background image
* panel
* screensaver
* Nautilus behaviour
* Handling of removable devices
* Gnome Terminal
* Gnome Dictionary (french servers)

External vfat devices show uppercase filenames, how to change defaults for GNOME desktop?
Hello there!
I've recently switched from Fedora 11 to CentOS6. Now my SD cards
(automatically mounted on plug) contents is displayed as UPPERCASE
filenames.
I well see in mount's man that vfat's shortname option can be set to
either lower, win95, winnt, mixed. OK, that's for entries in /etc/fstab
or when mounting manually.
I'd like to change the defaults for devices that

trashcan on dist. repl. volume with geo-replication
Hi Dietmar,
I am trying to understand the problem and have few questions.
1. Is trashcan enabled only on master volume?
2. Does the 'rm -rf' done on master volume synced to slave ?
3. If trashcan is disabled, the issue goes away?
The geo-rep error just says the it failed to create the directory
"Oracle_VM_VirtualBox_Extension" on slave.
Usually this would be because of gfid

Duplicate *.desktop entries for GNOME in /usr/share/applications
Hi,
Today I noticed something strange. There seem to be a series of
duplicate desktop menu entries in /usr/share/applications.
Example: gedit.desktop and org.gnome.gedit.desktop
Other example: nautilus.desktop and org.gnome.Nautilus.desktop
This is annoying, since I usually edit some custom menu entries for my
users. Now, if I edit both files for a single application, I end up with

CentOS 5.2 - Nautilus - file types are not associated with an action and icons are not displayed
Hi all,
I use CentOS 5.2 as a desktop and the Gnome Nautilus doesn't display
icons related to the file types and all associated actions ("open with")
are lost. It is so bad, that the desktop shortcuts are displayed as
ordinary files "Filesystem.desktop" or
"openoffice.org-1.9-calc.desktop", and when I click on them, the
Nautilus wants to know what it should

setting gfid on .trashcan/... failed - total outage
Hello,
recently we had two times a partial gluster outage followed by a total
outage of all four nodes. Looking into the gluster mailing list i found
a very similar case in
http://lists.gluster.org/pipermail/gluster-users/2016-June/027124.html
but i'm not sure if this issue is fixed...
even this outage happened on glusterfs 3.7.18 which gets no more updates
since ~.20 i would kindly ask

nm-applet, wirless, and CentOS 6
I have a strange problem and I know I am doing things way outside of the box.
First of all I don't like Gnome or really any of the mess-windows flavored
desktop systems and no, I don't like the MacOSX flavored desktop systems (like
Ubuntu's Unity) either. The 'desktop' system (if you could have called it
that) that I learned on was DEC's 'DecWindows' system on

Such an addon to samba would make me weep tears of joy. The trashcan is a
"security blanket" feature that Windows/MacOS/OS2/BeOS users now take for
granted. Convincing them that this is now impossible because we've

emptying the trash directory
All,
I just enabled the trashcan feature on our volumes. It is working as
expected. However, I can't seem to find the rules to empty the trashcan. Is
there any automated process to do that? If so, what are the configuration
features?
Regards,
Ludwig
