FWIW...
Good morning, everyone...
Perhaps this will either help or encourage others interested in using
CentOS as a networked workstation. It is based upon my experiences, and
all other disclaimers apply.
1. I did a basic workstation install from 4.1 CD's deploying KDE and Gnome
desktops and, other than a few minor issues, mostly of my making,
everything went smoothly. The install process is

Lots of posts around about this, all self serving :)
There may of course be an RFC floating around, but I admit to never
having bothered to look, because good netizens reply to list, lists are
public, they

Recommendation for HTML editor
I was playing around with Nvu, and discovered it has serious problems.
Mainly that it reformats one's code regardless of whether or not one
selects the "Don't reformat code" option.
I know there are a few HTML editors out there, so I'm not asking if they
exist. What I'm wondering if there are those on this list who may have a
recommendation for one they like and why.

Re: URGENT: OCFS2 hang - 32 node cluster POC
Run:
# top
# vmstat 1
# iostat -x /dev/emcpowerb 1
The latter two you can save to a file. For top, just monitor cpu usage
and see if any process is hogging all of it.

32bit and 64bit version of a package
Hi,
I''m trying to write a recipe to install the latest libstdc++ in both
32bit and 64bit flavors and running into issues. Yum only wants to
install the 64bit version if I do:
yum install libstdc++
If I do something like:
package { "libstdc++.i386" : ensure => latest }
It tells me "nothing to do"
Any suggestions on the right way to do this?
Thanks!

Cheap PoE switches/injectors?
I'm trying to spec out hardware for a new office, and I'd like to
include power over Ethernet as an option. I've seen a handful of PoE
injectors around $1000 for 24 ports and a couple switches up around
$2500 for 24 ports. Are there any cheaper options, short of buying a
boatload of 1-port injectors off of ebay? I don't really need more
then 24 ports of PoE out of 48 total

[LLVMdev] bytecode didn't read correctly under cygwin
Hi!
I'm trying to run "llc" tool on files from "test" subdirectory of LLVM root.
I compile source files with the following line:
llvm-gcc -c -ocompiled.o ackermann.c
Then I run llc like the following:
llc compiled.o
which outputs
llc: bytecode didn't read correctly
(I mean, I try it with different options but even the default ones aint
working)
My llvm-gcc

Buzzing on TDM400P FXS?
I have an intermittent problem with the one FXS line that I have. On
most calls, the first ~5 seconds of the call has a loud buzzing noise
on the line. After 5 seconds or so, it fades off to nothing, and the
sound quality is great. Searching for "buzzing" on the list doesn't
give a whole lot to work with. The buzzing happens on calls that are
routed over both my FXO line and

interrupt loading, intrd, and CMT
One of the things that I''ve been asked to look at lately is interrupt
load spreading, and intrd, to improve the network performance of CMT
systems.
From my read of the code, it looks like intrd only knows about virtual
processors. This has major breakage in that all the virtual processors
on a single core in a Niagra system share the common interrupt logic.
I.e. when the

Headless operations
Hi Folks,
I'm interested in "headless" installation. If I use GRUB, then I provide
arguments to the kernel of things like "headless vnc vncpassword=whoopie
ip=dhcp" GRUB passes this on to ISOLinux, which manages the CD and
subsequently the installation.
Shouldn't I be able to do exactly the same thing with EXTLinux? I ask,
because, as you might suspect, I

Rapid DTMF missing digits
Version 1.4.2 but to be honest I have no reason at all to suspect
that this is a problem with the asterisk software.
I've able to replicate this from a few different "client" net
connections and a across a few different linksys ata's. Where when
you call into the
host and enter the extension to connect to you miss the last digit of
the extension. Almost every time you

Sun ONE and Samba
Has anyone had success using Sun ONE as an LDAP (authentication)
back-end to Samba (preferably 4.0, but 3.3 would be fine)?
I've found people who've tried and given up.
Sun itself hasn't provided answers, but I haven't given up on them;
I'll keep reformulating my questions, and asking again.
One speculation on my part is that, if I can just figure out where in
Sun ONE the

SSL certificate access with Apache2/fastcgi
I''m trying to add SSL certificate-based authentication to an existing
Rails application. I''m running into major problems because I can''t
find a way to determine *which* certificate was used for
authentication. With CGI, Apache (2.0.5x) would add environment
variables to tell me about the certificate used, but they don''t seem

Rails app in a subdirectory via Mongrel
I''m trying to make Mongrel the default web server for Typo, but I''m running
into a problem. Is there an easy way to run a Rails app in a subdirectory (
http://foo/blog instead of http://foo/) with Mongrel? For most apps, I''d
just change routes.rb to include the prefix that I wanted, but that won''t
really work with Typo--I''d rather not require a few

Looking for some hardware answers, maybe someone on this list could help
I posted a thread here...

I am trying to finish building a system and I kind of need to pick
working NIC and onboard SATA chipsets (video is not a big deal - I can
get a silent PCIe card for that, I already know one which works great)
I need 8 onboard SATA. I would prefer Intel CPU. At least one gigabit
port. That''s about it.

vncserver on CentOS 7
I am trying to setup a centos 7.1 vncserver
I cannot believe they went from a relatively easy process in 6 to the
"crazyness" that is 7.
I did the following:
yum install tigervnc-server
cp /lib/systemd/system/vncserver at .service
/etc/systemd/system
systemctl daemon-reload
edit /etc/systemd.system/vncserver at .service

[PATCH][VNC Auth] Fix qemu-dm becomes defunct when rebooting hvm domain
Hi,
Sorry, I should not have removed infomation on xend.
image.py, line 399, in configVNC
config.remove([''vncpasswd'', vncpasswd_vmconfig])
When vncpasswd is removed, qemu-dm cannot be started in reboot of hvm domain.
Because necessary information disappears.
It cannot be helped though information in config list remains in xenstore.
This patch corrects above.

Local Calling Area database?
Is there an easy way to get information about local calling areas out
of telcos? I'm trying to get a list of area codes and prefixes in my
local calling area out of Verizon, and it looks like they've stopped
providing the information online. Is there an easy source that I'm
missing, or do I need to call them and have them mail me a copy every
few months?
