Where do my RPMs actually go, and is it different for Red Hat builds?
I'm trying to install themes for KDE. In doing so, I came across the following web site which seems to have the themes I want as RPMs: http://rpm.pbone.net/index.php3/stat/17/dept/3/idg/User+Interface_Desktop The theme I want is called "Thinkeramik", and it has the following versions, for various Red Hat builds: thinkeramik-3.2.1-1.0.el3.kde.i386.rpm RedHat EL 3

Installing puppetmasterd, puppetd as services under Red Hat, CentOS
Hi, Since I''ve installed ruby and ruby-gems from source, then installed facter and puppet as gems, I don''t get the usual startup scripts shipped with RPMs. Rebuilding the ruby RPM is painful, mostly because Red Hat (and pretty much every vendor) have this tendency to include random files and patch the living daylights out of a perfectly good source package so that converting

openssh on Red Hat and Suse Linux with PAM (cf. bug 559, patches 292, 675)
Do you know if either of the patches referenced above can be applied to the 3.6p1 code shipped by Red Hat (RHEL3) and Suse (SLES8)? It appears they were integrated in the 3.7p1 and 3.9p1 releases, respectively. apache2 on red hat linux need help anyone
I''ve poured over many docs online and thought it would be wonderful to get RoR running in 15 minutes. Well after 15 hours, I''m completely stuck and ready to give up on RoR. I''m hoping somebody can give me some guidance. I''ve pulled out my hair and am bald like others who have tried to get RoR running without any luck. When I run

Samba and LDAP
After perusing the Samba 3.x docs and purchasing Terpstra's and Vernooij's excellent Samba-3 Howto, I am still unclear on LDAP authentication. Not a Windows admin so please bear with me. 1) Regarding the Samba schema, is there a tool to extract the Windows client information (sid, etc.) for populating an LDIF? Raymond

Red Hat Legal Targets www.centos.org website content
To squelch the questions (related to the changing content on www.centos.org), I decided this needs to be published. The CentOS Team has been contacted by representatives of Red Hat's hired legal team regarding the use of Red Hat Trademarks on www.centos.org. (Full Email follows.) While the CentOS team feels we are using Red Hat's marks in a fair and legal manner, we have no choice

Segfaults with ssh from Red Hat 6.2 openssh-clients-2.5.1p2-1.i386.rpm
The segfault logged below occurs on two different Red Hat 6.2 systems running OpenSSH installed from the 2.5.1p2 RPM. (Similar problems occured with the 2.5.1p1 RPM.) The most recent of the Red Hat 6.2 systems tested is stock except for an upgrade of rpm-3.0.5-9.6x.i386.rpm and the install of Red Hat's release of openssl-0.9.5a-3.i386.rpm, both necessary for the OpenSSH RPM install. Kernel 2.4 and Centos4
Hi, Has anyone used a 2.4 series kernel on RHEL4/Centos4? There's a patch (openmosix) which I would really like to make use of [seeing as I just got 10 diskless computers...] which is not ready (yet) for the 2.6 kernel series... Can I just drop in a 2.4.26 series kernel and continue to have a working system? Or is RHEL now totally dependent on 2.6 kernel features? Cheers, MaZe.

Still VPN
Hi, still trying to understand one thing. I would definitely like to tell iptables to accept all packets coming from remote vpn only if they hit the $VIRTUALVPNINTERFACE. I tried -o ipsec0 but this is not working, looks like ipsec0 device doesn't exist or it is not recognized. I red on the Openswan users list, that Linux kernel 2.6 native ipsec don't create ipsec* interface (if I am

Will CentOS become obsolete now because of the changes Red Hat is implementing?
This post appeared on another forum: Will CentOS become obsolete now because of the changes Red Hat is implementing? Red Hat has changed the way it distributes Enterprise Linux kernel code in an effort to prevent Oracle and Novell from stealing its customers, making it more difficult for these competitors to understand which patches have been applied where. Some have speculated that the change

OCFS and multipathing
I've got my RAC cluster running pretty smoothly now (thanks again for all the help so far), but I only have single connections between the servers and the RAID array. The servers each have two Qlogic HBAs, and I'd like to find out if there's any reasonable way to implement multipathing. The platform is RHEL 3, and Red Hat's knowledgebase indicates that they strongly recommend

Storing passwords encrypted... bcrypt?
Hi everyone, Was just perusing this article about how trivial it is to decrypt passwords that are stored using most (standard) encryption methods (like MD5), and was wondering - is it possible to use bcrypt with dovecot+postfix+mysql (or posgres)? -- Best regards, Charles

Maximum number of connections in R
It appears that the maximum number of connections available in R is about 48. Can anyone tell me how to bump this number up? I've been perusing the source, but any info would speed things up. Is there a reason that it was set to such a low number? Thanks for any help. -Frank

Caught between a Red Hat and a CentOS
Interesting column at CNET... http://news.cnet.com/8301-13505_3-10376762-16.html ~~ "Novell has been positioning itself as the Avis of Linux, a distant but gaining Red Hat competitor that "tries harder." Voicemail and ADSI
Anyone using this feature of asterisk's voicemail? I'd never heard of ADSI, and saw it as I was perusing the voicemail source this morning. Is it some kind of visual way of managing voicemail on your phone's display, or does it require a terminal of some kind? Thanks! j
