transforming g729 files to wav files
Hello list,
is there any open-source software that recodes g729 sound files to wav
sound files ?
The only way (at least) to do such transformation is with interactive
form on: http://www.asteriskguru.com/audio_conversion.php

G.729A + Cisco AS5300
Hello,
I have 5 digium's g.729 codecs and succesfully register with asterisk, I have incomming call from my cisco AS5300 to Asterisk through IP. But Asterisk always use g711 ulaw instead of g.729. When I disable all other codecs other than g.729 in both cisco and asterisk, calls get dropped once connected.
The codec list show on my cisco AS5300 for g.729 are:
g729r8
g729br8
I suspect that

Codec Negotiation Does not seem to work as expected ?? Help Please !!
Hello,
I have been trying to get my coders to work without a conversion. I have
read all the available asterisk documentation and support groups without
any luck. Here is my issue. (Please feel free to ask questions if you do
not understand what I am talking about.)
I am using Cisco ATA-186 set to g729 codec. (But it will switch to g711 if
sip-server request g711)
I have 2 SIP-services to

miserable time with Cisco ATA186
I'm having a horrible experience getting a Cisco ATA-186 to work with *.
I can make calls from the ATA with no problems. However, incoming calls
make the ATA ring once, and then the call is disconnected. I have no
problems with my Sipura 2000 or my Grandstream phones.
I am running 2.16.1 sip code on the ATA 186. Neither * nor the ATA is
behind a NAT. They are both on public IP addresses

Setting codec on originating (calling) channel with chan_pjsip (SIP_CODEC_INBOUND equivalent)
Hello,
Anyone? I have hard time to believe this is not possible with chan_pjsip.
Anyway, may I ask how people handle the following scenario which I
imagine should be quite common:
- I have internal extensions talk to each other using g722. so their
codec setting (with chan_sip now) is "allow=g722,ulaw"
- I have carriers trunks that handle ulaw only (allow=ulaw)
- calls between

G729 licenses
Hi, all!!!
What will Asterisk do in the following case:
For example, we have 4 licenses, and have 4
simultaneous calls, using G729.
Will asterisk allow incoming calls from peer,
that can talk G729 and ulaw, and will it
force it somehow to use ulaw in this case?
All phones there in LAN behind Asterisk
prefer GSM codec, so it does transcoding.
So, what I mean is will Asterisk fall back
to use

I can do alaw, ulaw and gsm; remote can do g729 and alaw; asterisk wants to translate g729 -> alaw. WHY?
I am having a problem with one of my callers who is using either g729 or
alaw. I can do alaw but not g729 so asterisk should negotiate alaw
right? In fact from the sip debug it looks like it does, but then I get
the dreaded "channel.c:5630 set_format: Unable to find a codec
translation path: (g729) -> (alaw)" and the call hangs up. Why?
Last minute thought: Is it possible that

Asterisk and unknown codecs and GSM
I have a Cisco 2600 which understands the "gsmfr" codec, which appears to
be what Asterisk calls "gsm" -- at least it ends up using it.
I also have a PSTN gateway which is speaking ulaw.
When the 2600 calls through Asterisk to the PSTN, it negotiates the
g711ulaw codec, but when the PSTN calls through Asterisk to the 2600,
it seems that Asterisk is doing translation, and it

Codec negotiation issue (no audio format found to offer)
Running build 1.8.5.0 (compiled from source) I seem to be having an issue
with codec negotiation. I have a Grandstream HT503 FXO port connected to a
pstn line, a Polycom SP501, and a SIP trunk with callwithus.
What I'm essentially looking to accomplish is for ulaw or g729 (preferably
ulaw) to be used to the Grandstream FXO or any other internal endpoint, and
for g729 only to be used outbound

unable to find path
Hi. I just tried updating asterisk and I guess I broke something. Here's the log:
Unable to find a path from G729A to SLINR
Unable to find a path from ULAW to G729A
Any ideas on what I should try? I tried nuking all the zaptel stuff in the system and the source and started over agian. Also nuked the asterisk config files....
I saw this asked once before but there was no reply :-/

Voice "broken" during calls

Hi again (again)
I noticed right now another strange detail...
I made a call using my mobile phone (connected to the Asterisk). The
quality was top...
Maybe is the problem in a codec used from our phones at homes?
Could someone suggest me how to check the codec used by my mobile phone
and the codec used by the phones at home?
Thanks

Grandstream HT286 1.0.4.63 & Meetme
Good day!
Have a weird problem with HT-286 and Conference room. I use Asterisk
CVS-HEAD-06/04/04.
Here it is:
When HT-286 get into the conference room first and nobody in that room
everything seems ok (with any codec HT286 allowed), but when HT-286 get
into conference room when somebody already there, have got different HT
behavior:
1. When HT use GSM codec => it connects to conference room,

My G729 problem re-visited
Ok, I built a test system to duplicate my problem and provide myself
a platform that I can mess around with to try and break any features.
My problem is G729 pass-through from a gateway to a phone. I think
I even have transcoding working, which makes me more confused on
what's wrong with my pass-through. It must be a configuration issue.
The basics...

Transcoding
Hello,
Does asterisk do transcoding when the call goes
through the system, codecs are the same but signaling protocol is changed.
example:
SIP with GSM ---> IAX with GSM
What quality destruction happen when I use transcoding? I know
this is not a concrete/precise question, but I would like to know how is
it in general.
What CPU performance is needed for transcoding 30 channels e.g.

Codec Selection in Asterisk
I am wondering how Asterisk selects codecs between devices. For example,
in my sip.conf I have:
disallow=all
allow=ulaw
allow=alaw
allow=g729
Does the order matter? Does it mean it will try each codec in succession
and use the first that both endpoints support?
Thanks,

codec preference
Need some help understanding codec preferences:
I have 2 asterisk servers.
Server 1 sends calls to the PSTN and has allow=g729 allow=gsm and
allow=ulaw in iax.conf
Server 2 receives calls and routes them to server 1. It has the same
allow lines.
We receive calls from a phone co and route them via server 2 to server
1. The calls originate in g729 and everything works fine.
Now I want to take

Determining the used codec for the IP Trunk (SIP Trunk)
Hi List;
Where I determine the codec to be used for the SIP
Trunk (between Asterik and another SIP softswitch)?

Early codec selection / negotiation
Hi,
This seems to be a fairly common question, but I have Googled for this quite
a bit and looked at the Asterisk documentation/book and haven't been able to
find an answer.
My question is:
Can I get my IP phone to select a different codec depending on the final
destination of each call?
I've got these things connected to my Asterisk box:
- Snom 300 phone (supports g729 and
