Software to monitor security logs and email ISPs?
I know they have software that does this. I'm just not sure which one it
is. Basically here's the scoop. I'm on a cable modem connection with
Comcast. I have a firewall router and I run a firewall on CentOS as
well. All the same, other computers (probably zombies or hackers) are
attempting brute force attacks on a couple of ports on my computer. I've
just sat and watched them for

FRS / FRS/GMRS 2-way radios as SIP clients
Any one know of software that allows 2-way radios as VoIP(SIP) clients,
besides dingotel's usb & mic cable trick ?
http://www.dingotel.com/2way/requirements2way.asp
They might be ok if the SIP client was not hardcode to their own SIP proxy
Has anyone tried any hacks to get the 2-way radio SIP client to regsiter to
a * box.
hmm chan_frsgmfrs anyone? using the usb/mic cable under linux :)

R perfomance question !!!
I ran the simple script bellow and received shoking results. It was complied
for about 15 seconds !!! on modern Intel Core Duo computer.
i=0;
while(i<5000000)
{
i=i+1;
}
Using Visual Basic I can complete the same script (simple loop of 5000000
itterations) in 0.1 sec.
Is it realy R not suitable for huge computing.

disk drive sparing - questions not answers
I understand that ZFS provides fault data, via the zpool status command,
that would (probably ??) allow a knowledgeable[0] zfs admin to determine
(manually) when a zfs hardware element (today that''s usually called a "disk
drive") might need "maintainence" or might need to be replaced. And there
are sufficient features/facilities available in the current (b36+) release

ZFS locking up! Bug in ZFS, device drivers or time for mobo RMA?
Greetings all.
I am facing serious problems running ZFS on a storage server assembled out of commodity hardware that is supposed to be Solaris compatible.
Although I am quite familiar with Linux distros and other unices, I am new to Solaris so any suggestions are highly appreciated.
First I tried SXDE 1/08 creating the following pool:
-bash-3.2# zpool status -v tank

Re: IPTables Blocking Brute Forcers
Another good one is
http://denyhosts.sourceforge.net/
It runs as a daemon, and can either ban IP's addresses all together, or
just ban certain services.

Detecting deadlocks with hypervisor..
Hello,
I am trying to see if the hypervisor can be used to detect deadlocks in the
guest VMs. My goal is to detect if a guest OS is deadlocked, and if it is,
then create a clone of the deadlocked OS without the locking condition, and
letting the clone run. While the clone runs I am hoping to generate some
hints that could tell me what caused the deadlock.
I simulated a deadlock/hang

Hi there,
iam realy new to Linux and would consider me as total noob :)
I was realy happy because i got Wc3 running, but now i'm getting this buffer underrun errors and sometimes the game crashs, but in 1 of 5 games my pc just freezes, i was wondering if this buffer underrun causes that or something else.

gls model and matrix operations
Dear List:
I am estimating a gls model and am having to make some rather unconventional modifications to handle a particular problem I have identified. My aim is to fit a GLS with an AR1 structure, obtain the variance-covariance matrix (V), modify it as needed given my research problem, and then reestimate the GLS by brute force using matrix operations. All seems to be working almost perfectly,

login processes from attacks staying for hours
I'm in the process of rolling out new setups with dovecot on CentOS 5.2
and I notice that dovecot doesn't handle the brute-force attacks too nice.
I reduced the limit a bit to some reasonable looking value:
login_max_processes_count = 32
to stop them earlier and the number of processes stops at that figure when
an attack happens.
However, it stays at this count for hours although the

I'm having problems with libvirt crashing after a couple hours when a

My storage admin just assigned a Lun (fibre) to my server. Then re scanned using
echo "1" > /sys/class/fc_host/host5/issue_lip

I can see the scsi device using dmesg
But mpath device are not created for this LUN
Pleas see below. The last 4 should be active and I think this is the problem

Dovecot under brute force attack - nice attacker
Hi List,
optimizing the configuration on one of our servers (which was
hit by a brute force attack on dovecot) showed an odd behavior.
Dovecot Version 1.0.7 (CentOS 5.2)
The short story:
On one of our servers an attacker did a brute force
attack on dovecot (pop3).
Since the attacker closed and reopened the connection
after every user/password combination the logs showed
many lines like
