greetings,
yes, Mr. Richey it was funny what everyone posted... we all need that from
time to time eh?

troubleshooting kernel crash?
I'm getting kernel crashes on a new machine since it went into production
some weeks ago. How can I troubleshoot this? I suspect a hardware problem,
but I know too few about the kernel and kernel debugging on Linux to know
how I can nail this down with debugging software.
Just for reference of what kind these oopses are I quote the last two. The
symptom is that the machine stops

Winamp 0% Buffering mp3 streams
I'm new to streaming or music hearing over the wire, I still prefer my
old-fashioned stereo equipment :-)
But a friend asked me to setup a shoutcast server for him, so I went out
and installed it, played a bit with it and didn't like it. So I looked for
an open source alternative and found Icecast. Installed fine, works fine.
But there is one thing which puzzles me and I hope someone

more than one repo with --disablerepo
What's the correct syntax for something like the following:
yum check-update --disablerepo=dag ivazquez Extras Misc
this runs "dead" and doesn't do a check-update. Use kommas? Something
else? man just tells to use glob exp, but what about multiple repo's?

Hi, thanks for the quick answer. We are serving the mp3s with .nsv endings
since that is what the oddcast plugin seems to send by default when mp3 is

spam filtering with centos 5.2
In the past I've used a combination of spamhaus combined RBL's and
Spamassassin with Mailscanner as my spam recipe, but this stopped
working very well for me well over a year ago. As many of the users of
the couple small/personal mail servers I run are NOT technical people,
and use POP to read their mail, 'training' spamassassin is difficult at
best. Once upon a time, using

Dovecot 1.0.something rpm for CentOS?
Is anyone using successfully a specific rpm of Dovecot 1.0.something?
There's nothing on dag and a few on rpmfind (for Fedora Core), but I don't
know if they'd work. The one coming with Centos 4 (0.99.11) has quite a
few bugs and I'd like to put an upgrade on top of it.

Windows Media Player
I'm having a problem with WMP and icecast 2.2.0. When people try to connect it buffers the feed really slow and people never go get audio.
I've tried connecting over the LAN and it does the same thing.
Open http:/scanner.weatherserver.net/live in media player and you will see what I am talking about.

php on command line problems
The installed php on CentOS/RHEL is the CGI version. This means I should
be able to get command line arguments with $GLOBALS[''argv''] or
$_SERVER[''argv'']. That''s how the php documentation tells and how it works
f.i. on Suse.
However, on CentOS I get them only when I use the -n switch to php (no
php.ini). The problem with -n is that php cannot find

Yum thing
Hi,
As there is no (decent) way to specify a particular repo for an
particular package with yum, I'm having an odd problem: Although
the version numbers differ, I have 2 spamassassin pkgs in different
repo's (updates and my own addons) which are seen as updates to
eachother:
jelsum:/root-# tail -11 /var/log/yum.log

tripwire
Tripwire is probably one of must-have utilities for many system
administrators. However, it is missing from almost all recent Red
Hattish distributions. IMO, probably due to the fact that source
compiles only on i386, and needs patches to compile almost every time
new major version of gcc is released. However, in absence of good
replacement, this is all we have. (IMO, other tools such as AIDE

make sure that your mountpoint does not have a .ogg extention with the

Winamp 0% Buffering mp3 streams

The future is here, but Spamassassin doesn't buy it
Hey all,
I am getting a number of incoming emails flagged as spam this morning.
Here's why:

X-Spam-Status: Yes, score=5.2 required=5.0 tests=FH_DATE_PAST_20XX,
SUBJ_ALL_CAPS autolearn=no version=3.2.5
X-Spam-Report:

The date of 2010 in the emails is correct. I have typed "sa-update" and

New "Managing Software with yum" guide
There is a new "Managing Software with yum" guide that has been added to
our documents section.
http://mirror.centos.org/centos/4/docs/html/yum/
It is based on the excellent document written by Stuart Ellis for the
Fedora Core(R) website:
http://fedora.redhat.com/docs/yum/index.html
Thanks,
Johnny Hughes
