Provisioning CO lines
Hi all, This is a NEWBIE question, so all you experienced types that are tired of stupid questions can move on... I've pretty much given up trying to do my entire phone system over IP (including local service), so I have to select and provision my local CO lines. I need about 10-12 lines which can be POTS lines, of course. But, I thought, why not get something digital and expandable

Softswitch
Pardon my ignorance, but I was hoping someone could clear up something for me. - For a few POTS lines, digium has a single port card for that, or a T1 card to a channel bank. - For 10 or more lines, digium has a T1 or E1 card for that too based on PRI channels - For 100's to 1000's of lines, I suspect a soft-switch is in order??? A traditional phone company will sell: - POTS lines for

OT: PRI costs in US
Hello! Several of my customers would like to add a backup to their Internet connection. ISDN is a good solution: decently fast for a dial-up-type connection, yet still faily affordable. While I was at it, I decided to look at a couple of more creative telephone service options to possibly improve their service or lower costs at the same time. These customers range from having just a

echotraining on T1 circuits
Hello, We just had some new T1s turned up today to replace others that our contract has run out on and we are now getting more echo on the new T1 lines than we had on the old ones. The T1 type is 24-channel, D4/AMI SF Robbed-bit(the same as the T1s they replaced) The problem is that we are getting echo on about 10% of the calls in and out placed on these new T1s compared to less than 1% with

FX CallerID
Follow this diagram: Many POTS lines <-> Many Channel Banks <-> Mux <-> DS3 <---cloud---> DS3 <-> demux into T1s <-> Many Asterisk's If someone calls into 1 of the asterisk boxes (via PRI or VoIP), and I send the call back down the line above to a POTS phone, who will provide caller id to the POTS line? I think its called FSK signaling. Anyone know

Planning "hotel" phone system - Need input
Ok, I'm working on an implementation of Asterisk to service approximately 50 fractional (read: timeshare) residences. Basically what I'm starting with is a hotel phone system, but with additional functionality that Asterisk can provide. From the end user's perspective, I want the exact same functionality as the Telco provides (Caller ID, visual message waiting, etc) with a few

Organization wide
After our department went to using *, I've had several inquiries about doing VoIP for my entire organization (Small county). We have ~10 locations with various links in between (Mostly p2p T1s, some Frame (1.544mbps commit), some ISDN, some VPN over 768kbit internet) Right now we're using several NEC Electra Elite systems, and 2 Nortel Meridian systems. In one of the main locations we have

ILEC Interconnect
Hello Everyone, We are looking to interconnect with a local ILEC over an OC-n transport layer. They basically gave us two options in terms of mapping the SONET to the DS3: * VT1.5s mapping * DS1s mapping The second option is quite clear. We would MUX the connection, and plug the lines into qaud t1 cads etc... The tech mentioned that with the second option we would also need a DACS to convert

Digium T100P T1 Card
Hello All, I could use a recommendation if anyone has a moment. I have the T100P but I have not gotten my service yet. I want to have at least 12 lines of digital voice with DID. Should I just seek out a PRI ISDN provider or is there something else I should look for? I want to keep cost as low as possible. Also, I want to own my own router for the phones since it is always a hassle to get

fax over IP - http/ftp-provisioning - intercom
Dear members of the list, a customer of mine has some questions and I would like to pose some of them further to you guys. What is the situation with Asterisk and fax over IP ? Can Asterisk receive a fax over a POTS or ISDN line ?? Do I then need a Digium TDM-card and an FXO-module or a T38-gateway ? What phones should I use to automatically configure them from a central place via HTTP or FTP ?

Asterisk BRI in the USA
Hey all, It such a shame that BRI technology is such a flop in the USA. For a small office such as mine it would be a great product. So her goes my question.... What is a known asterisk working BRI card that will operate in the USA. I need to weigh price/quality. I need to do DID/DDI (or what ever you want to call it). Asterisk will do everything else I need. The ILEC has at the other

[OT] Centrex Question
I haven't dealt with Centrex for a long time, and one of my customers is being courted heavily by a Sprint salesperson. Am I not correct in assuming that each "line" of Centrex corresponds to an "extension" in the PBX world? This site has 2 POTS lines and 5 extensions, and they told me that for the same thing they're paying right now (~$40/POTS line) they will be

Call quality issue across VPN-> POTS vs SIP
Hi All, Got a strange (at least IMHO) issue that doesn't make much sense to me. Basic configuration is two sites with a site-to-site (aka router-to-router) VPN. Both sites have Cisco 7961G phones [with SIP firmware] on users' desks, and the only VoIP is internal - all of our outward telecom is on POTS or Centrex-enabled POTS lines. Site 1 has a Dell PowerEdge 1950 with Asterisk built

Learn some terminalogy before mounting this task.
All, I have done research on VoIP for some time now. I'm a Cisco certified Network Engineer however Telecom is not my strongest suit. I've been a part of this mailing list for sometime but my delusions of grandeur in migrating our 25 year old phone system to a new platform have been on the back burner, until now. I have found my company is moving to a new location(building) and this

Big practical systems
I don't want to start the "How many calls can Asterisk handle?" discussion or "How many angels can stand on the point of a pin?" discussion either. But can anyone contribute some practical knowledge of systems that take in channel bank T1s or DS3s from "far away", and process the calls? I am looking for real world, been there, done that, or "check the

User picks up phone, hears another call, not dialtone
First of all - Many, many thanks to Mark for his troubleshooting and fix of bug 1320 (FXO_KS signalled Zap Channels on Adtran 750 Channel Bank Stuck in Rsrvd State). I have heard complaints that once every couple weeks, when a user picks up their analog phone (t1 span off of a TE410P into an Adtran 750 with 6 FXS cards), they don't get dialtone, but instead, hear another conversation.

Cisco AS5400 Configuration as a SIP Peer - URGENT
List users, It's been a while since I've posted here, but I've been hard at work pushing toward our large scale Asterisk goal and keeping up with this list can be a full time job by itself (I have19,543 unread list messages!!). This Friday, September 16th 2005, my team will be at the MCI Development Lab in Richardson, Texas testing our setup. We have a three server system

Three (quick?) questions...
[Please excuse if this is a repeat; I initially tried to send it from a different account, and it's been held up for a couple of days awaiting moderation.] 1) What's the absolute minimum required (hardware-wise) in order to get one in-bound POTS line into Asterisk, and then have IP phones "inside?" [In other words, I obviously need a NIC -- but what would be the

telco access ?s -- PRI, T1, POTS?
Hi guys, I'm new to the telco game and still pretty new to Asterisk, although I've been using it for a couple of months now and like most of what I see. At my office, we've got a small two extension setup w/ two Digium cards for a single FXO line and three FXS extensions, but I'm also working on designing a larger installation for a customer which will involve ~16 analog
