music on hold without mpg123
Hello list,
after the last time that mpg123 wen ballistic on our production system, we
decided to skip mp3 playback altogether and to go for raw files. After
half an hour playing with mpg123 and sox parameters in order to translate
a mp3 file to a wav file that can be streamed back through * with no need
for an mp3 decoder, I thought I'd post the result to the list to avoid
wasting

Can't get format_mp3 to work for music on hold
Hi Guys,
I am having trouble trying to get format_mp3 working to play music on hold.
I have followed the instructions in the read-me and the wiki however
it seems after un-installing mpg123, asterisk is not even attempting
to play MOH.
My musiconhold.conf is
; Music on hold class definitions
;

[moh_files]
default = >/var/lib/asterisk/moh-native

Music not on hold
Hello,
I just can't seem to get the MusicOnHold function to work out ok.
I' managed to get the MP3Player app to work out fine, but
when I run the MusicOnHold all i get is siliece.
I can see that Asterisk executes mpg123 properly (I think)

Redhat 9 Music on hold
I have read every thread, I have Redhat 9, Asterisk 1.0.6, 2 T1 lines
connected via TE405P. Everything works great, except MOH. I added an
exten with MusicOnHold(30), and it plays just fine. Conferences have
music when no one is in. I have SIP phones. When I place a call on hold,
the CLI give no indication the call is on hold. I have set
musiconhold(default) everywhere, removed it from everywhere,

Streaming Hold Music
I've tried getting this running but mpg123 won't spawn. It spawns fine for
the files but if I try streaming she doesn't work.
I've tried with just about every stream at somafm.com w/o success. I can
play them locally though.
When I try to play them from the server from the command line I get:
# mpg123 -s --mono -r 8000 -b 2048 http://160.79.128.40:8052 High

Music on hold 1.2
What is a good solution for playing music on hold on the 1.2 branch. I do not want to use mpg123 because last time I used it in a production server it caused many problems. The MPG123 process was taking about 60% of my Xeon CPU.

Native Music On Hold Volume LOUD! How to adjust?
I've noticed that native music on hold volume seems to be very loud
sometimes. Is there anyway to turn this down? I know when using
mpg123 I can set "quietmp3" but what about when using native?

Many music on hold files
A feature we're often asked for in our ITSP product is to allow
customers to upload their own music on hold, or to have it recorded for
them by a recording studio with the latest news, weather, etc,
punctuated by "Welcome to <customer>, please hold".
Since there may be thousands or tens of thousands of customers, and
perhaps 10% of customers may want this feature with a

No music on hold?
Hi all,
I've got Asterisk 1.2.10 up and running on Debian using the back ports.
I noticed that it didn't come with mpg123 or depend on it and I believe
I read somewhere that asterisk now handles it's own mp3 playback? Is
this true? If so I must have a problem, because I hear no music when
putting someone on hold. When looking at the console when putting
someone on hold, I see

Sound Quality - Part 2 (mp3)
Hi All,
Thanks to the people that responded to my question. The suggestion of using SJphone instead of the Xten phone resolved the problem :-)
I now have another sound related problem! I've installed mpg123 and ensured that the binary is copied to /usr/bin as well as the default install location. mpg123 plays mp3s back perfectly via the desktop speakers, but when I playback an mp3 via the

Music On Hold
Hello everyone,
I am having a bit of problem getting MusicOnhold to play.
I am running Asterisk 1.4 with MPG123 0.59 installed.
And here's what i see in the debugging window of asterisk:
-- Started music on hold, class 'default', on channel
'SIP/x123-082043d0'
-- Stopped music on hold on SIP/x123-082043d0
Any idea why it is not playing the file at all?
thanks

MPG123, Music On Hold and Variable Bit Rate
I swear I read somewhere at sometime a command line that someone put
forth that used mpg123 and sox to normalize the MP3 for MoH to a
constant bitrate, etc... Through my search again for this information I
can't find it. Can someone tell me if I am crazy and if so... does
anyone have an "off the top of their head" solution to getting the
bitrate constant for MoH?
Thanks,

Switching between Music on Hold streams. [13.8.2]
Thanks Joshua and everyone,
Joshua's solution seems a lot simpler and works well. Only one thing
now - The reason I named the classes as I did, was so that I could
select the class based on callerID plus extension.
Unless I've misread it, I'm limited to 9 switchable classes via the
"digit=#" option, is that correct?
Or is there a clever hack around this?

Music on hold quality..
Hi,
Does any one have any pointers on improving moh quality??
Symptoms are crackling and hissing as the sound comes and goes..
I installed mpg123 this morning..
I have tried various MP3's sampled at 160k, 128k, 32k and 8k and they all sounded terrible... The PC is a P4 so its got plenty of processing power.. I have tried a few different types of classical music (Piano, Violin and full

Problem with music on hold...
Hi all,
I am trying to setup music on hold.
In extensions.conf did put the following:
exten => 6601,1,WaitMusicOnHold(30)
Using a sip phone, x-lite, after I dialed 6601 I get the following:
-- Reloading module 'cdr_csv.so' (Comma Separated Values CDR Backend)
-- Executing WaitMusicOnHold("SIP/666-f408", "30") in new stack

(Yet another) Music on hold problemand another...
Type 'mpg123' at the Linux CL. (no quotes)
If the version is anything other than 59r, you problem is solved.
Go to the Wiki and search for Music On Hold.
Do the install of version 59r ONLY as described in the docs.
Cheers,

mpg123 issue and solution
All,
I've been setting up an Asterisk PBX over the past few days and I stumbled
across a problem with mpg123 that I have not seen documented anywhere.
If you put mp3 files into your mohmp3 directory and these files have ID3v2
tags, mpg123 will throw an error message "Found new ID3 Header",
regardless of the -q flag.
This, in turn, will cause Asterisk to crash (yes), although

On Hold music
This may sound kind of crazy and I maybe missing something. But are you
placing the call on hold so you can hear the hold music. This may not
be the case but you may have to place the call on hold to here the
music.
Also you mentioned sound, you do not need a sound card in the asterisk
box to use this hold music feature.
Hope this helps.
