Outgoing call spool
I've been playing with the outgoing call spooling feature a bit lately and it all works as it should with the exception of one irritation. I'm mostly using SIP to talk to the phones and using G.723.1 I copy the call file into the spool/outgoing directory and the originating phone rings. I pick it up and the remote phone rings. However there is dead silence from the originating

Earpiece Connections
Does anyone know of a piece of hardware that can allow multiple earpices to be connected directly to a server running Asterisk. I hope I am not being to vague but basically I am looking to allow a call center to user the server to do all of the "Pickup" and "Hangup" functions. The operators will merely have to have th earpiece in their ear. I have seen serial pieces of

How do you turn on the 7960 msg waiting light?
Does anyone in Asterisk land know how to turn on the message light on the back of the earpiece of a cisco 7960 when a message is waiting? Thanks! Beeps and noises during calls
I have a very annoying problem that we hear on our end, but the other party doesn't hear. There are random beeps and echo type noises that occur. They are present during voicemails, and present on my end during calls. Is anyone experiencing the same deal? I have asked this a number of ways on the list, and never get a response... Thank you. [OT] Oldest Telephone
While the rest of you were chatting about the smallest * server, I was sitting her staring at the telephone hanging on the wall. It is a Western Electric set in a varnished pine box with an earpiece you hold in your left hand and a mouthpiece attached to the box. You crank the magneto with your right hand to signal the switchboard. The two dry cells inside are dated 1935, and I'm

Re: time to build an open phone?
ACES - Asterisk Communications Endpoint System {the following could be used by any IP-PBX but the name pays homage to Mark Spencer and friends who cannot be lauded enough for their fine work} As you read this it will be obvious I am not a professional engineer but I do have enough knowledge to be fairly certain what I'm proposing is feasible from not only an engineering, but production

ADSI phone vs. IP phone
Assuming the price of an ADSI screen phone (say, Aastra 390) was the same as an IP screen phone (say, Cisco 7960) and someone was setting up an * server for their 20 employees (each of whom would have either an ADSI or IP phone on their desk), would there be advantages to using the ADSI phones over the IP phones, or vice-versa? For discussion, let's assume that the hardware needed to

SPA942 quality for a Bank
Before committing to about 50 of the spa942's, I like to take a last poll from those on the list to identify any negative issues that might be associated with the audio, functionality, early failures, etc, on the spa942. Expecting to deploy these using existing cat5 cabling and both rj45 jacks. Been using three of theme in a short term demo with the customer, but the demo systems has

Why echo occurs
Hi all, Can someone give me a simple rational explanation why a $5 analog handset gives me no echo whatsoever on an analog PSTN line, but PSTN-VoIP devices such as the TDM400 and Sipuras do and thus require software-based echo cancellation. Surely a $5 analog handset does not have an "echo canceller". The echo I mean is when I hear myself while talking to another party. I have heard

Opinions on Cisco 7960G, Polycom IP-600, and Snom 360
Hello, We are planning to replace our current PBX with an Asterisk / SIP solution, and are now trying to decide which phones to get. My first thought was the Cisco 7960G, but the Cisco licensing scheme irritates me enough that I'll probably end up going with either the Polycom IP-600 or Snom 360. If anyone has any opinions of these phones, especially in comparison to each other, I would

strange echo problem
We have a strange echo problem. Maybe echo isn't the correct term. When we make a call f/ a SIP phone (we have several 7960's, some 3coms, and I've even tried a softphone, all on the same 100BaseTX network) to the pstn, if the person I'm calling has a PRI or channelized T1 f/ Bell, then the sound is perfect, couldn't be better. If I make a call to a person with a plain POTS

Cisco 7940 microphone volume
When talking to me, people are complaining the volume was not high enough. The phone only allows to change the volume of the speaker/earpiece. Is there an alternative solution? Is it possible to increase the volume in asterisk? Frederic

Too much silence, perceived delay
In a system connected to a verizon T1, Digium TE411P (quad T1 echo cancellation), client is complaining it is "too quiet". The complaint regards calls over the T1, not in house SIP only calls. Their description indicates they want some earpiece feedback of themselves speaking. Also, they complain that it takes several seconds (3-4) for the other party to respond. That is kind of

Call quality questions
Our basic system is as follows: P4 3.0 Ghz w/ HT, 1GB PC3200 RAM, 120 GB HDD, RH 9.0 OS, * from CVS several weeks ago, working OK for routing, VM, and AA, calls in on separate PSTN lines to Adtran TSU 600, into * server through T100P card. The hardware is not taxed at all with little over 20% proc utilization ever, low mem use, etc. All Phones are SNOM 200's with various firmware revisions

Budgettone + G729
hi there .. I asked sometime ago regarding getting a Budgettone working with Asterisk over G729. My system is quite simple, Asterisk server with 1 G 729 license installed, and 10 Grandstream phones. Only one of them needs G729, because it's on a remote link via an ADSL bridge. The rest run happily on G711 on a local network. I added the lines disallow=all allow=g729 to the sip.conf entry

Budgettone Newbie
Just got my new Budgettone phone, and I've got a couple of issues. Most important, it doesn't seem to be querying for the time via NTP. I put a sniffer on the line, and once it boots up the only outbound traffic it generates is an attempt to contact a TFTP server, which is programmed in as 192.168.0.168. . . Must it first find a config file (it's asking for "cfg.txt")

ATT: marrandy - Re: Grandstream Budgettone 102
[Posted here becasue your mail server is rejecting my direct reply to you.] Hi Martin, AFAIK SIP can run on both UDP and TCP but I have only seen it used over UDP.. :) To setup the GS phones you need to open up the following ports (If its still set at the defaults)... UDP/5060 UDP/5004 UDP/5005 UDP/5006 UDP/5007 I have not tested the GS phone through a firewall yet but this config should

OT: BudgetTone CallerID
Since the last firmware upgrade we've been experiencing some odd CallerID behaviour. Instead of the LCD showing the calling party's #, the phones are showing the internal extension being dialed. This is probably a really stupid fix I'm overlooking, but I was hoping someone could offer some insight. Thanks! -Corey -- Corey S. McFadden McFadden Associates - Technology
