CentOS-4.1 (Final) on Dell Inspiron 9300 Laptop
Hi, I have been using CenOS-4.1 quite sometime now on this laptop. Under CentOS I am having a problem during boots (soft or hard boots) that I never had with any other Linux distros including Fedora 4. I have to reboot the laptop twice as the first boot returns blank screen and hangs when it attempts to bring up login screen. I tested this a few times, there is no disk activity or any sign

CentOS4 on Dell Inspiron 9300
I just purchased a Dell Inpiron 9300 from the Dell Outlet store. Installing CentOS4 went very, very smoothly until I tried configuring X. The 17" screen has a 16:10 aspect ratio with a 1920x1200 resolution. The best I could manage using system-config-display was 1600x1200. So, after a bit of research, I hand editted the xorg.conf file (reproduced below) and it now works great. Maybe

CentOS on Dell Inspiron 640m laptop
I ordered and just received today a new Dell Inspiron 640m laptop (it also goes by the name E1405). Anyone tried installing CentOS on this laptop? It's the wireless drivers I'm most concerned about; it's got the Dell 1390 internal wireless card (not the Intel wireless). Anyone have some feedback, on the wireless or any other issues, on running CentOS on this laptop? Thanks Paul

Using CentOS 4.4 on very old Dell Inspiron 3500 laptop; would like suggestions regarding using KDE/GNOME in low RAM and low disk situation
Hi; I'm new to the CentOS list and I only have experience with CentOS 4.3/4.4 on desktops. I just installed CentOS 4.4 on a very old Dell Inspiron 3500 laptop. I choose the desktop option and then deleted the kde and gnome packages because I have only 192mb RAM and 4gb disk (total). I'd like suggestions on how to maximize the effective usage of the laptop with CentOS 4.4...as a

Sound problem in Dell inspiron 1525
After installing CentOS 5.2 on my Dell inspiron 1525 laptop, the sound was inactive, I then installed Alsa-Driver, Alsa-utils, Alsa-plugins and Alsa-libs the ATrpms site. The speakers then work fine, but when I plug in headphones, the sound begins to fade out and eventually becomes completely quiet. I have checked the Volume Manager and nothing is muted including the Headphones volume, when I

new dell inspiron 2100 intel 915 mobile chipset
All. I just got my new 2100 from dell. Nice little box. PLugged my centos 4.1 in and went rather smooth. However, my X windows screen flickers. I noticed it did the vesa driver. SO I went out to intel and downloaded the mobile 915 for linux. Followed the install directions. and it spit a couple errors about not succeeding. Nothing useful in the text. My laptop is still in vesa mode. Has anyone

CH7007A (AKA CH7006) TV OUT Support for NV11 (NVidia GeForce2 Go Dell I8K Laptop)
I believe that ch7006 is the only external encoder that's supposed to work, so you're in luck. It sounds like it passes the nv04_tv_identify stage of nv04_tv_create -- perhaps it fails later? Although based on the prints, it's even doing dpms stuff (but it hits _detect a second time... odd). Try booting with nouveau.debug=debug drm.debug=0xe That should provide a bunch more output as

Can't get ipw2200 to work in CentOS 5 on Dell laptop
I've installed ipw2200-firmware-3.0-3.nodist.rf from RPMForge using yum OK. I've loaded the ipw modules with /sbin/modprobe ipw2200 and then /sbin/lsmod | grep ipw which gives: ipw2200 136873 0 ieee80211 33417 1 ipw2200 However, when I run system-config-network I don't see Intel Coporation PRO/Wireless 2200BG (eth1) in the list of adapters. App not finding /dev/nvidia0 for /dev/dri/card0 not found on inspiron 8200 with nvidia chipset
I have source for a program that is attempting to open /dev/nvidia0 then on failure open /dev/dri/card0 to get some vsync settings. Neither of those two files is found on my laptop in /dev. Is this because of udev? I cant find anthing in /dev that might be used instead. Any ideas on what to open to read vsync information from X windows? Thanks, Jerry
