Codecs for use with Cisco 7960 and ATA-186
Are there any other codecs that can be used with the 7960 and the ATA-186? I have been using the default gsm codec and wanted to see if I could make use of something a little less bandwidth intensive. Re: Asterisk-Users digest, Vol 1 #882 - 11 msgs
Hi! Sure, just look for: Wonder Shaper. It's a HTB based shaper configuration wich have some very good features, I use a variation of that here at my College. http://lartc.org/wondershaper/ It is the page (a simple google search). Also make sure to uncomment the line tos=lowdelay in every config file of asterisk that have it. Hope it is usefull, sincerely, Ildefonso Camargo

ATA-186 de-register
Is it just me or do others have a problem with the ATA-186 de-registering? Every couple of hours, if I don't make use of the ATA connected line, I find that I have to unplug and let the ATA reboot. After that it is good to go for awhile, but eventually I have to repeat the process. My ATA sits behind a NATd firewall, any ideas what might cause the de-registration? Kim C. Callis

TDM40B and weird analog problem
OK, I have a Asterisk @ Home 1.0.7 server with two Digium TDM400 cards, one 4 port FXO and one 4 port FXS. When I plug an analog cordless phone into the TDM40B card and setup a ZAP extension, the phone rings in and you can answer just fine. The weird part is when you try to get dialtone from the cordless handset it rings all of the other extensions... One other thing to mention is that the

UPDATE - Analog Phones with FSK/Stutter MWI
After purchasing the Uniden TRU9480 and then the Panansonic 5672, both of which do not have "phone company" compatible FSK/stutter MWI, I finally got smart and found out just which Panasonic phones have this feature. Only the following 5.8G models in their current line have FXO compatible MWI. I purchased the 5771 unit and one remote. I have confimed it does in fact work with Asterisk

CallerID, DECT phones and ATA
Hi, I have two DECT cordless phones (one Philips Onis 6311 and one Philips Onis2 Memo-6511). The first one is for the french standard and the second one for the british standard. Both of them have callerid functionality. The british one does not show anything when connected to my PSTN line. I have not yet tested the french one. What I want to do is to connect both of them to the same ATA box.

Calls being interrupted, analog signalling problems
I'm having trouble with a WX100USB adapter and a Siemens Gigaset cordless phone. If I select fxols as a signalling method, calls are being disconnected. Usually after about 4 minutes, and asterisk just says that the phone has hung up. If I choose fxogs, I immediately get a LINE IN USE message on my phone and I can't even get a dialtone. If I choose fxoks, it mostly works, but sometimes

Looking for a wireless phone... wifiortraditionalwireless ?
This senario works great! I have a Snom phone coupled with a Linksys Wireless game adapter. When on a event trip I was able to have the snom ring where ever there was a signal. So the proof of concept passed. Unfortunatly all the wifi phones I have read about seem to suck! -----Original Message----- From: asterisk-users-bounces@lists.digium.com <asterisk-users-bounces@lists.digium.com>

Looking for a wireless phone... wifi ortraditional wireless ?
In that example you could make outgoing calls only correct? (since incoming likely needs port forwards) I guess the questions becomes "how often are you going to do that to justify the extra $100 or so you going to pay for a wifi sip phone?" Transfers on the Cisco 7960
I noticed that there is a soft button for transfer when you initiate a call. I pressed it, and it actually put the call on hold, although I was able to call another extension. Is that soft button functional? And if so, how do you make use of it? And if not, how does one transfer a call? Kim C. wireless ATA
I have a need for an ATA that will register over wifi. *NOT* a DECT phone or other cordless type phone plugged into a wired ATA. Not seeing one right off, and following the recent discussions about compact fanless systems, I thought a custom build-your-own might not only be useful for my purpose, but may be a viable product in its own right. So I started looking for mini-PCI based FXS cards.

clever ways to "share" an extension between sip and fxs
Using Asterisk 1.6.1.9, I'm looking for a way to "share an extension" between a SIP phone (Cisco 7940) and a SLT on a FXS port of a Cisco 1760 (via sip) -- at any given time I want to be able to pick up either phone and it should be "bridged" to the other - just like having two SLTs on the same copper pair. The goal is to have a cheap cordless telephone sit right next

LD accontability
As I was working on my extensions.conf file, I started to segment calling privileges. For the everyday workers, I don't free reign to LD access unless it is business related. So I was wondering if there was a way to implement some type of accounting code to be entered before accessing LD, which of course would be noted in the CDR (however it is implemented, either comma delimited or MySQL).

g729 codex experimentation
Yesterday, I started to experiment with Cisco to Cisco SIP calls using the g729 codec. According to the documentation, both the ATA-186 and 7960 are able to make use of the g729. >From an earlier e-mail, I made a change to the configuration of the ATA, changing the values: LBRCodec:3 RxCodec: 3 TxCodec: 3 The first thing I noticed was that when I did a sip show channels, the format had

Any dialing tricks...
Alright, I am basically cheap, and I have a cellular plan which allows for free incoming calls (Nextel). I was wondering if there was any way to do sort of a dialback trick in the extensions.conf. I call into the system from my cell phone (maybe via DISA), I dial an internal extension, and dial a phone number. Then * sends to my cellphone the number dialed thus giving me a in call on the cell. Or

cdr_mysql
Considering that I had a failure with compiling the latest version of asterisk because of cdr_mysql, I am going to assume that I need to have a copy of the mysql headers on the system in order to compile cdr_mysql.so. Does that sound correct? Kim C. Callis -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... URL:

Call Waiting With Draytek ATA
Greetings all- I've got a rather odd situation and would like to know if anyone can shed some light on the issue. Some background- I've got an * system running 1.4.11 (yes I know it's older.. upgrades are planned at some point...). I also have a remote user with a cordless phone connected to a Draytek ATA device. When this user is on a call and receives another call via call

Major problems with TDM400 and specific telephones: suggestions?
Hello! Attached to the bottom of this e-mail is an edited version of an e-mail I originally wrote to Digium tech support regarding Ouch and Power alarm errors I have been receiving on my TDM400. It contains a great deal of detail regarding my setup. In the end, I have found that one of the 5 phones I'm trying to make work with Asterisk is contributing to the generation of these errors.

Fair comparison
I was trying to do a little searching to see if there has even been a comparison between Asterisk and VOCAL or any of the other OSS packages? "Practical Voice Over IP using VOCAL" published by O'Reilly and Associates, attempts to make a strong case about how scalable VOCAL. Of course, considering that the book is written by the makers of VOCAL, it tends to have a one sided slant.

opening 2 and more channels on 1 SIP account
Hi! I have a Grandstream VoIP Device, at which a DECT base with 2 cordless phones are connected. If a call is placed and made through one cordless phone the other cordless phone appears as busy. What I want: 1. The Base station of the DECT cordless phones, is connected at 1 FXS Port of my Grandstream Telephone Adapter. 2. I want to place and receive as many calls at the same time through 1 SIP
