North American voice BRI - Informal survey
Hi, folks: I remain intrigued by the gap in BRI implementation between North America and Europe, and I wanted to get feedback from the list members on the matter. I'm seriously considering making the leap in our office. In Europe, the idea that an office that does not have enough lines to justify PRI would use analog lines is perceived as technologically backwards, and yet that's what

PRI dead in USA?
Hi- Because a majority of my customers are in Europe, I've gotten quite used to working with ISDN (PRI) and BRI on a regular basis. Recently one of my customers asked me if I could terminate a few lines locally here in the USA (California), so I called up SBC to enquire as to how much it would cost to install a BRI here. Although the rates were reasonable (except the installation), I got

Asterisk BRI in the USA
Hey all, It such a shame that BRI technology is such a flop in the USA. For a small office such as mine it would be a great product. So her goes my question.... What is a known asterisk working BRI card that will operate in the USA. I need to weigh price/quality. I need to do DID/DDI (or what ever you want to call it). Asterisk will do everything else I need. The ILEC has at the other

DID trunks -- equipment requirement
Hi guys, I posted a somewhat similar question about a month ago and got a thoughtful resonse from Steven Critchfield, but I've got a quick follow up question to it. I'm looking to setup a 16 extension / 10-14 phone line Asterisk install for a customer who would like to have DID numbers for the extensions, since they're currently on Centrex and already have the 1-to-1

Three (quick?) questions...
[Please excuse if this is a repeat; I initially tried to send it from a different account, and it's been held up for a couple of days awaiting moderation.] 1) What's the absolute minimum required (hardware-wise) in order to get one in-bound POTS line into Asterisk, and then have IP phones "inside?" [In other words, I obviously need a NIC -- but what would be the

Anyone using National ISDN (NI-1) BRI under Linux?
I have a North American BRI configured as National ISDN (NI-1) on an SBC (Nortel?) switch. SBC calls this "FastTrak ISDN", and it's surprisingly inexpensive -- less than two POTS lines. I've been trying to find an inexpensive PCI interface solution to connect this to Asterisk as voice lines. I prefer ISDN BRI over POTS lines because of the improved signalling, fast dialing,

T1 versus PRI
Hello All, I was wondering. What are the primary advantages to using a PRI over a T1? As I understand it, the PRI terminates very fast, meaning you can do immediate answer and dial... This is very handy on the BRI line I have on the asterisk. Can T1 signalling also do immediate answer, or does it just behave like a channelized pots line and ring as usual? I am trying to determine if I should

OT: How to "own" a telephone number?
Hello! We are open to the possibility of changing our business telephone number shortly. This will most likely be necessary due to a physical move, changing providers and a few other reasons. However, we woud like this to be the *last* time we need to do this. Ever. No matter what. Is that possible? On the Internet, you get this power with domain names. We "own" our domain

outbound caller ID
Hi, I would like to know if one can set the outgoing caller ID within Asterisk when calls are going out through: 1) an analog POTS line (I suppose not) 2) a telco BRI line (I don't think so) 3) a telco PRI line (maybe) 4) a voip provider (surely) Thanks, Vieri ____________________________________________________________________________________ Moody friends. ISDN
Hi, I'm in the process of setting up Asterisk in a SOHO environment using ISDN for trunking. More specifically a BRI 2B+D circuit where one SPID is used for the business and the other is used for personal. The circuit already exists, but is presently being interfaced to POTS phones via a TA. This configuration is not very common in the US, but we are fortunate that our LEC offers it price

asterisk and pstn
Hi, First of all apologies because this isn't strictly a purely asterisk question. I am quite new to asterisk and actually to voip/telephony as a whole. I currently have sip calls working through asterisk. The asterisk server is behind a linksys router. I would now like to connect calls to the pstn. I have researched into several ways to do this but because I am not very knowledgeable about

Ordering BRI From AT&T
Hello everyone, I'm hoping someone can help me with this. I have a business customer in the U.S. (Michigan, AT&T Territory). I need to get 4 trunks into an asterisk Box. My intention is to use an Eicon Diva Server card with 2 BRI Circuits. The reason for this is that the business needs DID's on the trunks (20 of them). A full or fractional PRI is overboard for them, as they will

Provisioning CO lines
Hi all, This is a NEWBIE question, so all you experienced types that are tired of stupid questions can move on... I've pretty much given up trying to do my entire phone system over IP (including local service), so I have to select and provision my local CO lines. I need about 10-12 lines which can be POTS lines, of course. But, I thought, why not get something digital and expandable

Asterisk t38modem Fax gateway evaluation
Hi, I am trying to fix a Asterisk setup with buggy (POTS) Fax machines. The setup consists of the following components: - A Digium TE121 for connectiong to E1 ISDN - Debian box with Asterisk 1.4 - Grandstream GXW-4008 SIP ATA to which the Fax machines connect I am aware of the problems with this type of ISDN <-> Asterisk <-> SIP ATA <-> Fax machine installations, e.G.

ISDN BRI (I.430) over ethernet
Does anyone know of a hardware adapter that can take ISDN BRI frames (I.430) and encapsulate them in Ethernet (any form, but TDMoE would be really cool), in much the same way that the redfone does for PRI? (yes I have asked this before in looser terms, but it was a while ago :) Would anyone find such a device useful? Thanks James

BRI Hunting, using both channels on one msn
Hello All, Has anyone configured bri to answer for only one msn? In essence, when the primary is busy I want to have channel 2 ring. I am using an eicon diva server bri I know I saw it in the windows interface, but don't see it in the linux setup. Regards, Greg

strange echo problem
We have a strange echo problem. Maybe echo isn't the correct term. When we make a call f/ a SIP phone (we have several 7960's, some 3coms, and I've even tried a softphone, all on the same 100BaseTX network) to the pstn, if the person I'm calling has a PRI or channelized T1 f/ Bell, then the sound is perfect, couldn't be better. If I make a call to a person with a plain POTS

telco access ?s -- PRI, T1, POTS?
Hi guys, I'm new to the telco game and still pretty new to Asterisk, although I've been using it for a couple of months now and like most of what I see. At my office, we've got a small two extension setup w/ two Digium cards for a single FXO line and three FXS extensions, but I'm also working on designing a larger installation for a customer which will involve ~16 analog
