[OT] Folder Redirection, Excluded Folders & Custom Default User
FreeBSD 6.0 Samba 3.0.21 (as a PDC) Windows XP clients I've setup roaming profiles with folder redirection, and it works. As far as I can understand, here is my problem... I customized the "Default User" in the [netlogon] share, where it includes directories under My Documents (like My Music, My Pictures, etc). But because My Documents is being excluded in the Group Policy, in

OT? skype, AD, folder redirection
Dear all, this may be OT, but I have not found any answer to this issue elsewhere. This is a (Samba) AD setup, debian stretch, with Louis' 4.10.5 packages. I have Folder Redirection set up for AppData through group policy. Skype (the desktop app) does not appear to be saving credentials in between logins and when I move from one computer to another. Does anybody have a clue here why it would

OT: Avoiding redirection loops with iptables tproxy
Hi all, I have a hard trouble with my iptables rules. I need to create a netfilter config so that it does not redirect connections from a daemon (like for example a squid proxy) to the original destinations. Searching info about that, some ways to do that include to limit the redirection rules to the incoming traffic interface, another to limit it to a certain range of source IPs or to

Moving files to new server
Hello, I am getting a new computer and am going to need to move the files from the old to the new. What is the best way to do this? Should I install CentOS from scratch on the new computer then move the directories I need? How do I maintain permissions if this is the best way? TIA Eddie

Shutdown script does not trigger
Dear nut users, I am fighting to configure a smooth server shutdown with an ubuntu server and a dell usb ups using nut. It seems that the drivers connect properly (upsc gives very coherent outputs). However I can't get anything to happen when the ups goes on battery. How can I be sure the the UPS status is really monitored ? Is there a particular log file where I upsmon reports problems

RJS page.delay timing issues
Hi. Has anyone ran into issues with the timing of page.delay. I have been testing in firefox, for the most part, and it seems that there is no reliability on when the page.delay timings kick in. What happens is that sometimes it will work fine, and the countdown looks great; other times it will just jump to the end and display everything at once, other times it will be jerky. I''m on a

Robust Search Solution (with CentOS 4.3)
I've got about 10,000 docs I'd like to devise a search/index for. I found a perl script called Perlfect that can do that on an old P3 but at the astronomical time of 7 hours. Another script(cgi/perl) at hotscripts can do the same but allows the "rm -rf /" exploit. DoH!? Is there anything perl/flatfile that can search/index faster? This is a nice job for an aging P3 in the

OT: MySQL Help
Hello, I know this is off-topic for this list but I know someone here may be able to help me out of a jam. I ran the following against a table: ALTER TABLE `products` ADD INDEX `idx_products_model` ( `products_model` ); Some things now appear broken but don't know if this was the culprit or not. If I can revert it back it its original state I may be able to determine if it's the cause

Self-signed certificates
Hello, I am trying to create a self-signed certificate for a sub-domain. Creating the certificate is not the problem. I used cacert.org to complete it. When I made the certificate, it was for the sub-domain but the certificate for the top-level domain is the certificate that appears. In the <VirtualHost> section for the sub-domain, I have pointed to the sub-domain key:

OT: Backup Question/Solution
Hello, I want to switch from DVDs as a backup medium to a usb flash drive. I have been using Mondo but get tired of feeding it DVD+RWs. I purchased a 128GB flash drive. I can't get Mondo to write to it. I want to be able to make this device bootable. Do I need it reformat it from a Windows file system to ext4? I never had to format a blank DVD previously. Is there a better solution

OT: Ecommerce hosting
Would appreciate some suggestions for ecommerce hosting. Been using, cough, cough, godaddy, for about 5 or 6 yrs but in the last year or so, they really suck. Did the hosting myself for a while prior to going with godaddy but I don't have time to babysit. Seems godaddy would rather spend millions advertising during the Super Bowl than put that money to good use. TIA!!

[OT] VOIP
Hello, I changed ISPs a few weeks ago and now I'm on cable. In doing so, I lost the ability to use the DSL as a FAX line. So, I bought an OOMA. Turns out it uses a number of ports, three of which are reserved, 53 TCP/UDP, 110 TCP and 443 TCP. These ports have already been port forwarded from my cable modem/router to my server. I'm thinking this isn't going to work unless I change

[OT] Network Attached Storage
Hello, Been thinking about either purchasing one of these or building my own. This will be for home use. I was looking at the QNAP 451+ or building (DYI NAS) one with FreeNAS. I also found that CentOS has a NAS project. Not sure which way to go. They would cost about the same. One would be proprietary and the other open source. I like open source. This for home use. Thought I'd start out

OT - backup question/advice
Hello, I have been using mondorescue to backup to dvd for several months now without any problems. Since upgrading to Centos 4.4, I now receive a few errors. The errors are for files in /var/named/chroot/proc. I guess these files change so when I do a differntial backup they aren't there and result in errors. (Never got any errors before and I think these files were there in 4.3) If I

OT: Hardware upgrade help
I would like to upgrade my system to a 64 bit machine. I'd like to find a bare bones platform to build on. I'm not looking to spend a lot of money on this as it is a home system. I looked on the CentOS sponsor page but only saw hosting services. I haven't kept up with hardware in years so I'm dumber than dirt on what's out there. I would prefer a desktop so I can stack it.
