X11 forwarding problem -- openssh-3.5p1 -- redhat 8.0 -- linux 2.4.18
All, I'm working on upgrading a machine from RH 6.2 to RH 8.0. I've encountered one major (for me) snag in that I cannot get X11 forwarding to work anymore. I've been google-ing the error messages all morning, with no luck. Here is debugging output from the server (client debugging output sent upon request... I don't feel it is relevant). What I feel is interesting is at the

Disconnecting: protocol error: rcvd type 98
When I SSH using protocol 1 from a Debian box running OpenSSH 2.9p2-4 to a sparc.sunos5 box running vanilla OpenSSH 2.9.1, after a little while (of inactivity?) I get the following message on the client terminal: Disconnecting: protocol error: rcvd type 98 Looking further, this message is actually caused by the SSH daemon. However, I'm at a loss to determine why sshd is doing this. I attach

OpenSSH Authentication on Solaris w/ NIS+ Problem
Hello, I am having a very aggrivating problem, and I will try and provide all of the necessary information. I have openssh-3.7.1p2 with openssl-0.9.6k installed on Solaris 8. Here is what I've been able to determine so far: 1. Local account authentication works fine (non-NIS+). 1a. NIS+ is running at security level 2 2. Telnet authentication works fine. 2a. When I use the SSH client,

ssh trouble checklist
Hi. There should be a checklist of everything that can go wrong with making an ssh connection. Here's one entry for the list, which I didn't know before, and * I couldn't see the problem from the -ddd and -vvv output, and * there were no /var/log/* file entries to give hints. Here's what I did sudo kill <pid-of-sshd> /usr/sbin/sshd No good. Usually I did kill

? about portable version of sshd crashing
I am porting over the portable version of openssh to our uCLinux implementation. Everything has worked with minimal effort and I appreciate all the work. But, I am having a problem whereby the sshd executable is crashing and I really could use some help on where to look at this in more details. Here is how I start up the sshd for testing. /usr/sbin/sshd -D -ddd -f /etc/ssh/sshd_config -p 65

Winbind, Kerberos, SSH and Single Sign On
Hi, at first I'm not sure if this is the correct list to ask this question. But since I'm using winbind I hope you can help me. I try to realize a kerberized ssh from one client to another. Both clients are member of subdom2.subdom1.example.de and joined to it. The users are from example.de, where subdom1.example.de is a subdomain (bidirectional trust) of example.de and

sshd terminates a session after a successful login
I've recently upgraded our environment to OpenSSH-3.7.1p1 on Solaris, AIX and IRIX. I have had no luck when it comes to getting the IRIX environment to work. With sshd running on an IRIX server, I connect with any other version/OS ssh, watch the connection establish, get right up to the point where the shell should spawn and sshd terminates. I have been unable to find any information online

^C doesnt work on ssh session
Thanks Darren, will check on your response. I am attaching sshd, ssh logs with debug flags. Please see if it gives any hint: when I press ^C in ssh session, no log gets printed in both server/client side. Problems using sftp on HMC IBM system
Hello friends, I am having some problems using sftp to reach a HMC IBM system. The connection is suddenly closed and I don't why. Actually I don't know exactly how to read all these debug information. I would be very glad with any help on this topic. Here is the full debug output provided from the command execution: otubo at phoenix ~ $ sftp -vvv hscroot at skiper Connecting to

Where to look next?
Thanks for your suggestion! It seems to have gone a little further this time, but isn't accepting the key and is failing back on password-based auth. We're double-checking that the public key was correctly configured with the account, and also trying a DSA key to see if it behaves differently. Is there anything you'd suggest we look at or try at this point, and thank you very much

OpenVMS SSH password expiry woes continue
I sent in a patch a week or so ago for a problem a customer of mine was seeing when trying to connect to their OpenVMS system with an 3.8.1p2 OpenSSH client (running on a linux box or in cygwin) and trying to login to an account who had an expired password. The problem continues although now it has nothing to do with what my patch handled as they have since upgraded their SSH software on the VMS

OpenSSH v6.7 & NumberOfPasswordPrompts Option ...
Yes, I have tried that option with no difference in behavior. It seems it ignores that option when provided. Just for reference, I am building it on RedHat 5. I have never had this issue on any previous version of OpenSSH. I use the default configuration with only the changes specified in the RHEL 5 STIG applied. I appreciate the security advice. The root account was indicated simply as an

possible bug: OpenSSH appears to freeze on exit
Hello, I believe I may have discovered what appears to be a small anomoly in the way OpenSSH closes connections and thought if I gave you some feedback I might be able to make a very small contributution to the development of openssh. This might be a Solaris 2.6 anomoly or an openssh anomoly or a combination of both. I came across this apparent anomoly because we use openssh (via cron) here to
