sftp Client for Windows XP
Folks, Excuse my ignorance on the subject but I'm new to OpenSSH and have been tasked to write a 'sftp' Client for a home-grown application that runs on a Windows platform. The answers to my questions is probably on the List Archives but I'm not able to find it even after a few search attempts. So here goes... 1. Is it possible to even write a custom 'sftp' client for

Weak DH primes and openssh
> Can this be addressed in ssh_config/sshd_config with the KexAlgorithms setting? weakdh.org/sysadmin.html recommends adding: KexAlgorithms curve25519-sha256 at libssh.org But this thread makes it sound as if it's not necessary. Can anyone confirm? Personally I'm on openssh-6.7. - Grant > You will be aware of https://weakdh.org/ by now, I presume; the take-home seems to be

X11forwarding yes: how to debug/setup after xauth fix
I do not often use X11 - but when I do I prefer to enable X11forwarding, and when finished - turn it off. This is preferable, imho, to having "clear" X11 processing when local - and otherwise impossible when working remote. Working with openssh-7.5p2 I cannot figure out what (extra) I need to do with sshd_config to get it working. I know that there is a security-fix starting with

PasswordAuthentication fails in openssh3.7.1p1 as it does not use PAM
All, I am an engineer working with Brocade. We recently upgraded one of our products to openssh3.7.1p1. Once we did this, the password authentication always failed while connecting through ssh. The authentication succeeds if attempted through keyboard-interactive authentication. On debugging this we found that Password authentication is not working because it doesn't Use PAM in

ClientAliveInterval
Hi, I am having some trouble with the ClientAliveInterval server setting. My (C++) application fails to start an SSH channel to an OpensSSH server within this time-out period if it doesn't reply correctly to this 'keep-alive' no-op that is sent by the server. How is this no-op handled? I am using the libssh client library, and I could find no references on how to handle this.

SSHD creates defunct process
Hi, I am using on sshd version OpenSSH_3.6.1p2. I am facing some very vauge problem when i run sshd server and try to connect to it. When I run sshd in debug mode [ ./sshd -ddd] I am able to connect to it and every thing functions very well, but when i run it as [./sshd] and try to connect it the connection hangs creating defunct process. The entries in process table are 25571 ? S

Automatic blacklist of IP-addresses.
One feature that I haven't seen in OpenSSH (It may be there) is an automatic blacklisting of IP addresses when a certain number of login attempts are reached from that IP address. It seems like it is popular these days to try brute force access on password cracking and automatic blacklisting may limit these attempts. Best regards/Nils Hammar

Legacy MACs and Ciphers: Why?
Why are legacy MACs (like md5-96), and legacy Ciphers (anything in cbc-mode, arcfour*(?)) enabled by default? My proposal would be to change the defaults for ssh_config and sshd_config to contain: MACs hmac-sha2-256,hmac-sha2-512,hmac-sha1 Ciphers aes128-ctr,aes192-ctr,aes256-ctr ...removing md5, truncated versions of sha1, umac64 (for which I can find barely any review), any cipher in cbc

Building and loading a DLL on Windows NT
I am trying to build a simple dll with Rcmd SHLIB to link into R. The results of the build are below. From my limited knowledge of building DLLs, it looks like it worked (I didn't get any errors). F:\R\dlls> Rcmd SHLIB add.C making add.d from add.C g++ -IC:/PROGRA~1/R/src/include -Wall -O2 -c add.C -o add.o ar cr add.a *.o ranlib add.a g++ --shared -s -o add.dll add.def add.a

hang on exit bug under Linux
>From what I understand, the problem is due to people's disagreement about what the "correct" behavior should be. I'm pretty sure that the following is the correct behavior from running rsh and ssh often (both fsecure and openssh). Lets say you have a stupid script that does while 1 do sleep 1 done Called foreverSleep on your remote host: rsh remotehost

Array Dimension Names
I would like to reference array dimensions by name in an apply and a summary function. For example: apply(x, "workers", sum) Is there a better way to do this than creating a new attribute for the array and then creating new methods for apply and summary? I don't want to name the individual elements of each dimension (such as with dimnames) but rather name the dimensions. Thanks

Weak DH primes and openssh
Hi, You will be aware of https://weakdh.org/ by now, I presume; the take-home seems to be that 1024-bit DH primes might well be too weak. I'm wondering what (if anything!) you propose to do about this issue, and what Debian might do for our users? openssh already prefers ECDH, which must reduce the impact somewhat, although the main Windows client (PuTTY) doesn't support ECDH yet. But

Building an R package under Windows NT
I am trying to build a R 1.7 package under Windows NT. I created the DESCRIPTION file, the RD file and added the code to the R folder. I also downloaded and installed the Rtools package and have Perl 5.0. I know that Perl, Miktex, and gcc are working. I also have my PATH variable set correctly. I can fake install my package by removing the *.R from the code file, using Rcmd Rdconv to create
