Does CentOS has problems with Norton Ghost 2003 images?
Hello all We have two very important workstations dedicated to tasks of development and investigation. At the moment we have installed a dual boot platform with CentOS 4.0 and Windows XP Proffessional SP2. In order to do backups of these machines we need to create an image with Norton Ghost 2003. We have worked with Ghost during several years with different platforms (Red Hat, White Box Linux,

Clone a custom CentOS 7 desktop using G4L over FTP
Hi, A couple months ago, I migrated our local school (two servers, 20 desktop clients) from Slackware 14.1 to CentOS 7. The desktop clients are running a customized lightweight desktop based on Xfce: https://blog.microlinux.fr/poste-de-travail-xfce-centos-7/ Home directories are all on the server, and authentication is centralized. Everything works fine so far. With Slackware I had found a

Boot into operating system after PXE boot
Hi all, I would like to check with you all if the following is possible: I'd like to combine G4L (Ghost clone) with PXE (been done before) but in such a way that an option in LDAP is checked after booting with PXE. If it's set, a certain program is executed with certain parameters (G4L), if not, the PC should continue to boot in it's installed operating system. Is the latter

transfer data from one hard drive to another
Hello I have an OS installation and data on a 40 gb drive that I would like to image to a 80 gb drive. I don't care if the resulting partition layout on the new drive is only 40 gb making me lose space. I just want to move everything from the older drive because I think it's failing. I have looked at partimage and mondo rescue as imaging solutions but both deal with partitions. CAn someone

Can't get Grub work on clone of machine
Hi. I have cloned a RHEL 5.6 physical server over to a ESXi 5.0 Virtual Machine. Using a live CD on the new Virtual Machine I created 3 partition /boot (/dev/sda1), / (/dev/sda2) and swap (/dev/sda3), I then mounted the / (sda2) partition and created the /boot directory and mount the boot partition partition /dev/sda1 into /boot. I then used rsync to copy the source machine over to the Virtual

migrating files for centos virtualization, virtual disk no longer boots.
All, I am playing with virtualization on centos 5. I took my old redhat 7 disks and created a 10GIG virtual disk, I installed redhat 7. Now I am trying to get the EXACT image copied off of my actual redhat 7 disk so that I know it is the same (including all patches, updates and OTHER things I did to it that I have forgotten about). I booted the redhat 7 image just fine at this point. I also

Creating LiveCD with EFI option?
I've been using various versions of syslinux as the boot loader for the g4l project that I have been the maintainer of since 2004. It was already using syslinux, so I've just updated it over the years, and currently have it use 5.10 version, but have done test builds with the 6.x versions. Recently had request from to users about EFI support, and one suggested that virtualbox has

On display I see only "GRUB" :( I have 2 more servers based on CentOS too, but after the same update this servers works. All servers have 2 HDs and works as software mirror. I have started damaged machine using Knoppix and I can see partitions and data on both disks. Of course I

My server won't boot (grub looping - stage2)
Hi, This morning one of my servers (centos 4.5) refused to boot. The console shows a lopp message grub loading stage2... I've been able to boot from the install CD choosing the rescue option. I can chroot /mnt/sysimage with no problems and even started the services (network, mysql , httpd etc). How can I solve this? I've followed the manual (

Creating LiveCD with EFI option?
I have been using syslinux-6.x along with isohybrid --mac and --efi option to create a usb hybrid iso with EFI support. The thing with EFI is that you'll need to use grub as your bootloader for EFI but isohybrid does setup the proper partition schema for EFI. You'll need to use the following to generate an iso that works. xorriso -as mkisofs -J -R -l -V some-vol-label \ -o ../image.iso

GRUB, and how do I loathe thee
I just adore the install. Esp. of GRUB. Does *anyone* who works on GRUB actually work in the real world, and not only on brand new machines? I just had happen at work what happened last fall on my home system: then, I had /dev/hda, and was trying a clean install on a new SATA drive; right now, I'm installing on a replacement disk on a server that has no CD/DVD drive from a USB key. The equivalent of Ghosting the system
If I were to lose my main hard drive, I would like to have the opportunity to do the same as I can do using Windows: restore from my USB and have a working system. If I were to rsync everything on the main drive (excluding the backup drive, of course and a few other directories) to my USB drive, could I restore using some CD based version of Linux e.g. Knoppix? Linux and HDT looking systems?
I've got a user of my g4l project that is having a system that locks with my kernels, but also with hdt? The default versions are using the 5.10 version of syslinux, but build a special setup using 6.02 and it still locks with both the kernels and the hdt? He was able to get gparted i486 live iso to boot on the machine, so not clear what the issue might be. The system is a Fujitsu T734

Manually mounting partitions in "linux rescue" mode
I boot from the installation DVD, with an already existing CentOS 5.5 system on my hard disks. I have separate boot, root, and home partitions. I have moved the boot partition and now I need to re-initialize grub from rescue mode. Attempting to use 'rescue mode" to automatically mount my system under /mnt/sysimage eventally fails with an error message, which essentially says
