Missing In PATH
I'm a newb to linux so please be patient. Running CentOS 4. Using
Bash. I'm not sure what happened, but now for some reason /sbin,
/usr/sbin, and /usr/local/sbin are all missing from the path. I am su'd
as root. I've tried several different methods to put this back
including:
PATH="/usr/kerberos/bin:/usr/local/bin:/bin:/usr/bin:/usr/X11R6/bin:/hom

0.9.2 is old; 0.9.28 is current.
Please 'rm -fr ~/.wine' before you try the new version.

Samba-2.2.0alpha-3 and smbmount
Hi All,
When I use smbmount to attach a NT 4 Server's drive C:, I use
the following command:
smbmount //inet_server_1/C$ /mnt/server1 -o
username=xxxxxx,password=xxxxxx,fmask=700,dmask=700,nosuid,noexec
now, if I am su'd to root, and do a df -h I get:

/dev/hda1 6.7G 2.5G 3.8G 39% /

After successfully building R on Slackware Linux v11.0 I went to make

serial port problem
Hi,
I tried to run an older windows program under wine (I think it is an
older 16bit Borland C compiled binary - the icons looks have the
typically Borland look) for connecting my telephone system via a serial
connection (Auerswald ETS2106W.EXE). The program iteself starts but it
tells me every time that it gets no connection with COM2. To verify
that the serial connection is ok I a have

SSH Remote Execution - su?
Greetings All-
I'm about to embark on some remote management testing and need a way to login to a remote system running CentOS 4.x/5.x via SSH, su to root (using a password), then execute a command.
I currently login to the boxes using key based SSH like this:
ssh -i ~/remote_key admin@$REMOTEIP
Then, I SU to root. However, if I try to do this automatically like this:
ssh -i ~/remote_key

Conflict between LDAP and Privilege Separation?
Hi all.
OpenSSH_4.1p1, OpenSSL 0.9.7g 11 Apr 2005 on Solaris 8 using host-based
authentication.
With "PrivilegeSeparation yes" and "UsePAM no" everything works as
desired. If I enable PAM, I am able to connect, but just before it
gives me a shell, it disconnects. If I leave PAM enabled and disable
PrivilegeSeparation, it works.
Is this a current limitation, or is there

Allow remote hosts for remote forwarded ports
Hi all,
I just wanted to temporarily make some new CMS I set up available to the
public for testing on port 8080 of our web server forwarded via ssh to
to my local, firewalled workstation:
ssh me at some-host.tld -R 8080:localhost:80
However I had to notice that this only binds to the loopback interface
and not to all. For -L there is the -g option to low connects to locally
forwarded ports

to consult how much space has on disk of server, the application send a

discount <markdown in C>
I've written an implementation of Markdown in C, for people like me
who shout BAH! and wave their canes at modern programming languages.
(I needed a decent markup language for my website and weblog, and
didn't want to have to install any new programming languages on the
machine.)

RE: Samba-3.0.0 on OpenBSD-3.4
It Lives!
I dl'd the current contents of:
pserver.samba.org/pub/unpacked/samba_3_0/source
ftp.openbsd.org/pub/OpenBSD/snapshots/i386
Upgraded my obsd34 box;
Samba compiled, loaded, joined the Domain, and testparm'd okay.
I don't know if the problem was the samba source or OpenBSD's code.
Don't really care, as long as it's up.
Here's my configure mods...I put it in

reference counting in ssh-agent?
Hi,
In a machine that I regularly use one console and remotely I have the line:
eval `ssh-agent`
In my .login, as per the ssh-agent(1) man page.
Problem: when I log out, the ssh-agent process persists which is the
correct behavior in some cases, but not in others. This means that
periodically I have to kill off hundreds of ssh-agent processes as they
are taking up a substantial amount of my

openssh-2.1.0 and AFS
Hi!
I've noticed that openssh always does a do_setpag() if compiled with
AFS-support no matter which authentication method is used.
Maybe I'm missing something but shouldn't it only get a pag, if
AFS-token-passing is used?
If password authentication is used, an AFS-pam-module (or the authenticate
function on AIX) will do the job, otherwise, no token can be
obtained and therefore no

BackupPc_nightly crashing with Perl chdir errors
Hi all. I have been reading the list archives and can't seem to find
anything that relates to these errors.
BackupPC_nightly fails to delete any files, and reports the pool and cpool
at zero size. The nightly run as currently configured should be deleting
a ton of files (only one hardlink) but it deletes nothing, and so the
drive is now 100% and staying there. I have adjusted the conf

How to prevent root from managing/disabling SELinux
At work I'm used to tools like eTrust Access Control (aka SEOS). eTrust
takes away the ability to manage the eTrust config from root and puts it
in the hands of "security admin". So there's a good separation of duties;
security admin control the security ruleset, but are limited by the OS
permissions (so even if they granted themselves permission to modify

OpenSSH - forced command - no-pty issue
Hello Darren,
The major problem we are running into is that the shell (both sh and ksh)
does not kill its child processes when there is no pty. The SSH patch
mentioned previously at
http://bugzilla.mindrot.org/show_bug.cgi?id=396
is not sufficient to kill the forced command completely. It will only kill
the shell script, but not any child processes the shell script runs. The
shell assumes the

Thunderbird Upgraded from 1.0.8 to 1.5.0.4 and MOZ_NO_REMOTE dead
Since Centos 4.3 comes with Thunderbird 1.0.8, I downloaded the tar of
1.5.0.4 fro mozilla and tried to figure out what to do with it.
per http://www.mozilla.com/thunderbird/releases/1.5.0.4.html#install
I was just suppose to copy the files....
In the end I put it in /usr/lib/thunderbird
I am NOT a Linux guy so could not figure out how to properly replace
