how to use expression as function arguements?
Hi all,
#####################################
integ=function(f,n){
# computes vector y = f(x)
x=runif(10000)
y=f
hatI=mean(y)
hatI
}
# example of use
integ(x^2+x+100,100)
#####################################
it returns an error says no obj 'x'
how do I 'tell' R to treat 'f' as an input expression?
Thanks.

wrong number of arguements (1 for 0) on ActiveRecord::Base#send
So I''m not exactly using Rails, but just ActiveRecord. Though I felt
this would be more appropriate in the Rails forum than the general Ruby
forum.
I''m working on an app that interacts with databases, without having a
database of its own.
I have a class called Modeller, and a Modeller#retrieve_model(name)
method that takes a name, looks for a table matching that name, creates

Specifying arguements in user defined functions
Dear R subscribees,
First, I am new to R and I apologize if the question is naive. I am trying to
find out where arguments specifications
can be found. For example, the code below (at the very bottom of
this email) contains the argument 'digits' in the function 'lin' which
printout my output to the 3rd decimal place. Somebody showed me the
'digits' argument, but did

A question about logical controls and function arguements
Dear R-help subscribers,
I'm trying to write a function to generate data simulating the image
created by a point radiation source in a plane on a screen where there
is filter with a single circular aperture in it between the source and
the screen.
Following some guides (including Intro to R and some I found online) and
examples I have specified the function (full code below question) with

cant restore .Rdata
Hi Folks,
I loaded a couple of quite large data sets into an R session and then
quit (after saving the image). Now I get:
Error: a read error occured
Fatal error: unable to restore saved data
(remove .RData or increase memory)
after trying to start my R session using something like:
R --vsize XXX --nsize 1000000
For any value of XXX (I went up to 300 or 400, which is as high as I could
go.

continue for loop in case of erros
Dear all,
I have a for loop which includes nls model estimation.
The loop breaks after the first non-convergence error.
How can I make the loop continue and try to estimate all models?
I suppose it should be sth like: if(...) { next }
but I have no idea how to setup the arguements...
Thank you!

samba-tool group removemembers, not working
> Hi Mark, can I ask just what you are trying to achieve ?
Well, it's rather simple. I want to remove a domain member from the domain. Normally, I do that
with ADUC, no problem. But for some reason I was having trouble with ADUC (since resovled,
magically), so I thought I'd try the same thing using samba-tool. That's it really.

domain master browser
I'd like my Samba server to be a Domain Master Browser for a
workgroup (let's call it 'ENGINEER').
I set it up according to BROWSING.txt, but yet Windows NT/95 PCs on other
subnets are unable to browse and see computers on this subnet
(even if those PCs are also in the same workgroup).
It appears that the Samba is not acting as the Domain Master Browser

BUG: scp -r follows symlinks
hey all
'scp -r ' follows symlinks. IMO this is a bug and should be changed - it:
a) hampers the use of scp. As it stands, I cannot use 'scp -r' because of this
behavior. If someone links to '/', or if I hit a recursive symlink, I'm screwed.
b) It is inconsistant with cp. When you 'cp -r' on a file, it does NOT follow the
symlink. When you scp

multiple definition of `optind'
Any ideas of the best way around this problem? Should I just hack the
source code, or is there a magic switch somewhere I'm missing? I'm
assuming I can't just dismiss that function as OpenSSH is probably
based on the OpenBSD semantics.

Problems with Oulook Clients
Hello all.
I have problems with clients running Outlook 2003 that keep getting IMAP
server timeout errors, "mailbox in an inconsistant state" Are there any mods
to be made to the config file that could eliminate this? It happens about
ever 10minutes. Here is what our previous Sys Admin sent me on our setup.
dovecot is the IMAP server that allows clients to connect and get to their

[LLVMdev] Problem about the type of Function's arguement in llvm
in the tutorial of official llvm doc, chapter 3, it deals with arguement
of function as follow:
for (Function::arg_iterator AI = F->arg_begin(); Idx != Args.size();
++AI, ++Idx) {
AI->setName(Args[Idx]);
// NamedValues is map<string, Value*>
NamedValues[Args[Idx]] = AI;
and when it try to get the value of arguement, it simply does:
