Doc v2: How to use NPIV in libvirt
Thanks for John Ferlan's lots of internal feedbacks, I believe it's more readable, and better orgnized now. Should we create a page for it under http://libvirt.org/deployment.html or add it in WIKI? ========================================== NPIV in libvirt NPIV (N_Port ID Virtualization) is a Fibre Channel technology to share a single physical Fibre Channel HBA with multiple virtual

OCFS and multipathing
I've got my RAC cluster running pretty smoothly now (thanks again for all the help so far), but I only have single connections between the servers and the RAID array. The servers each have two Qlogic HBAs, and I'd like to find out if there's any reasonable way to implement multipathing. The platform is RHEL 3, and Red Hat's knowledgebase indicates that they strongly recommend

SUN Storage 7310 with RHEL 5.5 / Centos 5.5 and multipathed root, again.
Dear all, After some trouble finding the right multipath.conf, I'm running Centos 5.5 against the SUN 7310 more or less successfully now. Unfortunately one issue remains: the SUN 7310 has two storage heads, H1 and H2, which are in a active/passive configuration. If I define a LUN on H1, everything works great. I edit multipath.conf, re-create the initrd and I find 8 paths with

Doc: How to use NPIV in libvirt
Before posting it to WIKI or somewhere, I want to see if there is any suggestions on it, or if I missed something. ============================================ How to use NPIV in libvirt I planned to wrote a document about how to use NPIV in libvirt after more features are supported, but it looks like I can't wait till then, got lots lots of questions from both the

multipath failover
I got a chance to play a bit with new device-mapper-multipath. Unless I missed something obvios, docs seems to still be in the making. Could somebody point me to some docs for /etc/multipath.conf file? Couple of questions (I have very limited time I'll have access to hardware, sorry if I'm asking some obvious stuff). I managed to get things working by typing "multipath" from

Multipath-root (mpath) problems with CentOS 5
Hi list! I have a server with dual port Qlogic iSCSI HBA. I set up the same LUN for both ports, and boot the CentOS installer with "linux mpath". Installer detects multipathing fine, and creates mpath0 device for root disk. Installation goes fine, and the system boots up and works fine after the install from the multipath root device. After install the setup is like this: LUN 0 on

Storage Pools & nodedev-create specific scsi_host#?
Hello everyone, Current host build is RHEL 6.2, soon to be upgrading. I'm in the process of mapping out a KVM/RHEV topology. I have questions about the landscape of storage pools and the instantiation of specific scsi_host IDs using virsh nodedev-create and some magic XML definitions. I'm grouping these questions together because the answer to one may impact the other. High-level

multipath
I have inherited a system set up with multipath, which is not something I have seen before so I could use some advice The system is a Dell R420 with 2 LSI SAS2008 HBAs, 4 internal disks, and a MD3200 storage array attached via SAS cables. Oh and CentOS 6 lsblk shows the following: NAME MAJ:MIN RM SIZE RO TYPE MOUNTPOINT sdd 8:48 0 931.5G 0 disk ??sdd1

SMP kernel on old Asus CUV4X-DLS motherboard
Just wondering if anybody managed to get SMP kernel to boot properly on an old Asus CUV4X-DLS motherboard (older dual P-III)? I had this problem only with this specific motherboard and 2.6 kernels. First time couple of years ago. And again today (I've just installed CentOS4 on a box that used to run RH7.3). Previously those machines were running Red Hat 7.3 (2.4 kernels), and with 2.4

Libvirt with multipath devices and/or FC on NPIV
Hello, I am trying to find out a best practice for a specific scenario. First of all I would like to know what is the proper way to set up multipath, who should care about it the host or the guest. Right now I have a setup where I have one multipath which sets my host to boot from FC SAN. I have another multipathed LUN in the host which is essentially a dm which I attached to a guest, however

[XCP 1.0] NetApp issue
Hi all, I am experimenting an issue with XCP 1.0 and NetApp storage model . My XCP server has a QLE2460 single channel fibre card. I have successfully connected the server to the storage. I can see the LUN connected via fibre channel by using scli command: scli output: ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- HBA Instance 0: QLE2460 Port 1

for a guest accessing host "full disk", how to prevent host vgscan
Hi All. I have a dell system with a H700 raid. Within the hardware RAID config I've created a "virtual disk" which I have assigned to one of my guests. On the host the device is "/dev/sdb", on the guest it's "/dev/vdb". This works fine. Within the guest, we have created lvm PV on /dev/vdb (using the whole disk - no partitions) and created a volume

vhba and storage pool creation
Hi! Got a couple of storage questions here. I'm a storage guy, running a new project, and just started with libvirt, but have been using qemu/kvm on other platforms before, as well as oVirt. So, my questions here: I started with creating a vhba, and that went fine, I could see it on the storage side logging in to the target with its wwn. My next step would be to make it persistent, and
