Download to ext3 partition stalls
Hi ext3-gurus,
I was doing some testing of our 100 Mbit ethernet at work, and found a
weird problem which appears to be ext3 releated as far as I can tell.
The test is very simple. I use ncftp to connect to another machine
running vsftpd and download a very large file over the network. The
network is switched, and I get 8-10 MB/s transfers usually.
Now, if I download to /dev/null ("get

ssh session output stalls
Hello,
Is anyone else having problems with the ssh session output stalling
when ssh'd to another system and the command is running via sudo and a
pager is being used (e.g., more)?
Too highly reproducible :( to date, all known occurrences have
involved Centos 4.3 servers; makes no difference whether client is
RHEL WS 4.3, Centos 4.3 or FC 5 or WinDoze. Makes no difference if

I'm consistently running into trouble using robocopy to copy a large
directory structure, with some 50000 files, from a samba share to a local
windows clients.
I'm using packaged 4.6.2 samba, on Centos 7, running on as KVM VMS. Both
machines I am running exhibit the following behaviour:

File transfers to Windows XP x64 stalling and dying after a few minutes.
I just did a fresh install of Windows XP Professional x64 on my primary
machine, and am reconnecting all of my LAN services. One thing I have on my
home network is a dedicated file server, running Ubuntu and Samba, used as a
general file server, as well as a backup for when I reformatted my main
system.
While attempting to restore some of my files, I started noticing some odd
errors. After a

File transfers to Windows XP x64 stalling and dying after a few minutes. [SOLVED]
just wanted to post to the list that i just had a very very similar issue to Geoff's but in this case the client OS (using samba as a file server) was Windows Server 2003 x64 R2 SP1 and the samba version was 3.0.24.
After much googling and config trial-and-error, i found that upgrading to the recently-released Windows Server 2003 SP2 alleviated my problem. I also corresponded with Geoff

Stalls and closes
Hi,
Trying to SSH to a server over an OPENVPN link, and it seems to be
stalling , and then closing the connection. Can I do some command line magic
to stop the stall, or get a password in before it closes?

samba4: getent group stalls
Using 4.0.0alpha12-GIT-580f955 version getent group works fine.
Upgrading newer version results getent group stalling after listing 3 ldap
groups.
Server is 64 bit debian lenny and i have tried two clients: 64 bit debian
lenny and 64 bit opensuse 10.1.
getent passwd works ok.
any hints?

Dovecot on OpenBSD stalls
Hello list,
I'm using dovecot 1.0.2 on OpenBSD 4.1. About every month, dovecot will just stall, without any error messages. The processes
are still running, the network ports are open, but the login just hangs.
The following error message does occur on a very regular basis:
Aug 15 00:52:37 mail dovecot: auth(default): LDAP: ldap_result() failed: Can't contact LDAP server

Large File Copy to Large ext3 RAID5 Array Often Stalls
I'm experiencing strange behavior from my ext3 RAID5 array and my Fedora Core 2 system. Before I go crazy varying all sorts of tuning parameters, I thought some list subscribers might provide me with useful advice.
The problematic array is:
3x Promise Technology Ultra 100 TX2 PCI cards
6x Maxtor 250GB IDE drives (one drive per cable)
RAID level 5, 128Kb chunk size, EXT3: "mkfs -t ext3

Tiger Mac stalls running Rcmdr program
I am a Macintosh computer (MAC OS X Version 10.4.3) user. I would like to
run R for structural equation modeling and meta-analysis but am having
difficulty using the Rcmdr interface.
According to the R commander installation notes for Tiger Macs I need to
1) Install X11.app from Apple Install disks which I have done
2) Install R.app which I have done
3) Install binary package rgl from CRAN
