New Bind Update
I was wondering if the new bind update is going smoothly for those who
have done it?
I've been a little hesitant to run it yet as the last time forced a bit
of time fixing things. I'm trying to plan if I need to have some hours
available for this or if it is like most of the time.. just do it and
everything's ok.

r-plot
Dear R-community
I have a grueling problem which appears to be impossible to solve:
I want to make a simple plot, here is my code: http://gist.github.com/118550
Unfortunately, the annotation of both the x- and y-axis are not correct, as
you can see in the following picture:

I am not an expert of R, so maybe someone can point me to the solution of

Konqueror Ajax update
I had been comparing IE and Firefox Ajax performance, and since I have a
couple of Unix boxes in my workshop, I threw Konqueror into the mix, and
reported here earlier today (or yesterday) that Konqueror ( 3.4.3) could
handle Ajax perfectly, at least as far as the simplest AWDWR Ajax example
(./example/index) was concerned.
It occurred to me to do a more grueling test.

To redirect any message into /dev/null
Hi all,
I'm running a script in my crontab like this:
*/50 * * * * /root/scripts/keepjobrun 2>&1 > /dev/null
However, crontab always sends a message to root (me) about the above script.
How do I stop it from sending any notification?
Thank you very much,

nfsv4 in centos?
Greetings
Some time ago I briefly played with NFS. More recently with Samba.
What I am wondering is if NFSv4 is already integrated into Centos 4 from
upstream.
Reference:
http://www.linuxplanet.com/linuxplanet/reviews/6331/1/
if not, is there a timeline? Centos 5 ?
and... is or can NFS be a compatible yet better replacement for Samba?
thanks

I was doing an Internet facing server reload for a client today and he
mentioned that there is a minimal install selection somewhere and that I
should take a disk 1 of centos 4.4 and it would be under custom
Is this the case?
How?
I couldn't find it, nor could he after the fact.
If it exists, where is it, or how do I get to it for future reference

noarch concerns? dangers?
Please share some wisdom from the list... :-)
Realistically there is some type of difference between an rpm made for an
arch (like i386 or x86_64 etc) vrs an rpm with noarch
I was just looking at and downloaded these two from dag
perl-Archive-Tar-1.30-1.el4.rf.noarch.rpm
perl-IO-Zlib-1.04-1.2.el4.rf.noarch.rpm
they are the latest and are not assigned to an architecture
there are older rpms of

HAL Problems
Hi,
since the last few days my system crashs at startup of gdm (on system boot).
If I choose runlevel 2, the system doesn't crash. I found out, that HAL is
the problem. After disabling hal (chkconfig haldaemon --off) no crashes
appear.
The system freezes completly so I can't look into the logfiles.
I removed an reinstalled hal already, but nothing changed.
I tried older kernels

Quick crontab question (another cron question!)
Really quickly: Would anyone know how I might add a crontab entry via a
script (bash)? I'm attempting to write one to schedule commands at
certain times. Is this possible? Thanks.

bootloader installed at wrong place during install
Hi,
I've just started testing CentOS 4.4 installs. When installing on two
mirrored drives, the bootloader got installed into the first
partition, instead of MBR. It was a kickstart install, and I used
"bootloader --location=mbr" in the kickstart file (which is also a
default). However, when looking into /root/anaconda-ks.cfg file,
misteriously it was changed to

IBM x305 slowdown?
Hello:
I have an odd problem with an IBM EServer XSeries 305 (aka x305).
Sometimes it seems to just sit there, completely unresponsive to the
command line (ssh and console), for several seconds. Other times it
works normally. top will sometimes die with a floating point error
while waiting for it to start. When top does work, it often shows a
system load of 0.5, with high interrupt load.
