Borken dirname on Solaris 2.5.1
Discovered this post an upgrade to 2.9.9p2, Solaris 2.5.1 dirname is
busted for paths like "/usr", returning "" rather than "/".

Build failures: nanosleep on Solaris and AIX 4.2.x
Hi All.
The recent changes to scp caused build failures on Solaris and AIX 4.2
which showed up on the tinderbox[1]. I mentioned the first to djm in
email yesterday but I'm posting after finding the second, in case anyone
else has seen similar problems.
Solaris' nanosleep is in librt (or libposix4 in older versions) which
is not linked. Adding them to configure works fine, however ldd

1. Add support for files >2GB via Paul Eggert's AC_SYS_LARGEFILE
macro. This macro is now part of autoconf 2.50. Because of this,
"config.h" needs to be included before system headers to get
the appropriate defines for LFS support.

configure.in fixes for 2.9.9p2
configure.in patches for 2.9.9p2:
1. Allow --with-pcre to take a path specifying the root of the
PCRE install (ROOT/include, ROOT/lib)
2. Ditto for --with-zlib
3. $no_libnsl and $no_libsocket can be determined programmatically
4. Check for innetgr, getspnam, and util in the default $LIBS before
checking in -lrpc, -lgen, and -lutil, respectively
5. dirname() is in -lgen on some

[PATCH] Solais has nanosleep, too.
This is a patch to configure.in which makes autoconf aware of the
availability of nanosleep() on Solaris.
In Solaris it's in librt, or in libposix4 if you're running an ancient
version (<2.6 I think)

Looked at this again, I think the reason it's not working is libgen has already

[patch] ./configure problem on Solaris
Hi,
I have a problem with tftpd-hpa on Solaris-8, in that the configure
script cannot find the regex engine.
This is because of the following in configure.in:
LIBXTRA=false
AC_SEARCH_LIBS(xmalloc, iberty, , LIBXTRA=true AC_LIBOBJ(xmalloc))
AC_SEARCH_LIBS(xstrdup, iberty, , LIBXTRA=true AC_LIBOBJ(xstrdup))
AC_SEARCH_LIBS(bsd_signal, bsd, , LIBXTRA=true AC_LIBOBJ(bsdsignal))
if $LIBXTRA; then

[PATCH]: Fix configure.ac to allow linking against PCRE on Cygwin
Hi,
the current configure.ac file contains an unfortunately static
setting of $LIBS when the host system is Cygwin. It always
adds -lregex to $LIBS before the --with-pcre setting is evaluated.
The later adding of -lpcreposix -lpcre doesn't work correctly
since it follows later in the link order.
The following patch changes that. The static $LIBS setting in the
Cygwin case doesn't

[PATCH] lib: Prefer tirpc for XDR, and rationlise how we search for alternatives.
glibc in Fedora is currently configured with `--enable-obsolete-rpc',
so I guess we can see the way the wind is blowing.
(1) This changes our configure script to prefer libtirpc if it is
available.
If libtirpc is _not_ available then:
(a) Headers must be located in <rpc/xdr.h>, or the user must supply
the right CFLAGS.
(b) XDR functions must be located in one of -lportablexdr, -lrpc,

please test (HEADER.ad)
Could someone with HEADER.ad in arpa/nameser.h please test the
attached patch (against current) to see it it's detected.
None of my platforms have the ad member.
config.h will end up with "#define HAVE_HEADER_AD".

Two minor build system patches.
Hi all,
I ran into a few problems building R 3.3.1 and came up wth the
attached patches (fingers crossed they don't get stripped, I've also
sent this email to Jeroen since that worked last time). Would it be
possible to review and merge them if they are OK?
The first one uses AC_SEARCH_LIBS instead of AC_CHECK_LIB, looking for
ncursesw before ncurses since ncurses is usually build with

A error in auth.c of openssh-2.1.1p2 port on systems with a mixture of shadowed and non-shadowed passwords and Japanese Translations.
Hi.
I have found a error of
openssh-2.1.1p2 port on systems
with a mixture of shadowed and non-shadowed passwords.
I reported a same type of error to Mr. Miller
when openssh-1.2.1pre23 was released.
On our systems,
our local machines have shadowed /etc/passwd (and /etc/shadow)
and our NIS server distributes non-shadowed password
of general users.

configure.in reorder patch
Feb 12 CVS (sort of, see warning below)
I've had to change around some of the code in configure.in
to get some platforms to compile with the --with-tcp-wrappers option.
Basicly I have set it up to
check headers
check system libraries
check for optional packages
check functions
I have also tried to clean up the library order as it is important
on some platforms.
This patch works on
