[PATCH] Add scp -1 and -2 options to OpenSSH-3.0.2p1
Here is a patch to add the missing scp -1 and -2 options to eliminate
confusion for users familiar with the commercial version of SSH.
This patch and others are maintained on the secure nfs (SNFS) web page:

[PATCH] supporting a remote scp path option in scp
Hi there,
I've written some enhancements to scp.c and pathnames.h to enable the scp
to arbitrarily set the remote scp path.
(eg $ scp -e /usr/bin/scp foo user at bar:foo)
I did read the "scp: command not found" FAQ entry but I'm not quite sure
why we can't do this, unless it's because enhancements to scp are no
longer a priority. Any other reason why it "is the

File Offsets for SCP (patch)
I don't know if anyone would be interested in this but I'm including a
patch to allow for offsets when transferring files with SCP.
It's pretty simple and assumes the user knows what they are doing (for
example, if transferring with a wild card the offset would apply to all
files). -A is the number of bytes offset from the beginning of the
files. -Z is the number of bytes inset

argv[0] => host feature considered harmful
OpenSSH still has this feature, SSH-1.2.27 no longer has it. Admittedly it
can be useful sometimes, even though I'd prefer this to be done using a
trivial shell wrapper, which would be the UNIX way of doing things.
Not being able to call OpenSSH's ssh by another name (say ``ssh1'') can get in
the way when having to maintain two versions of ssh in parallel because the

scp remote path specification
Hello,
in order to use "scp", the scp binary has to be in the compile-time
default path on the remote host. For some users (like root), we try to
avoid this since scp may be on a network file system (AFS/NFS), and we
don't want to hang root's session on network outages.
Would a patch to scp be acceptable in the main tree that allows to set
the path to remote scp explicity,

displaying identity key comment string in passphrase prompt
A Feature Request for OpenSSH 3.x:
In version 2.x, when prompting for the passphrase ssh would print
a prompt including the comment string from an RSA key, like:
Enter passphrase for RSA key 'Your Dog's Name':
The comment string was a useful way to remind the user what the
passphrase was (i didn't use hints quite this easy :-).
In Openssh 3.0, ssh prompts using the filename:

[PATCH] Connect timeout
The attached patch adds a new 'ConnectTimeout' option (man page updated
in patch) to avoid wasting time when the target host is down. I needed that
because I was using rsync/rdist over ssh for massive files update and the
default connect() took too long for my purpose.
The patch was tested on Linux only, but I used a similar one for ssh 1.2.XX
on Linux, Solaris and HP-UX without

scp patch to delete source files after copy
At work we have a large collection of scripts to move log
and config files around. These depend on commercial (F-Secure)
ssh/scp, as it supports the -u option to delete the source file
after (successful) copying. That is the sole reason we can't
run openssh on our 150+ unix boxes.
I have attached a patch below, which adds the -u option to
delete the source file after copying, provided there

openssh-2.9p2, short hostnames
For systems where the local hostname is obtained as a short name without
domain, there should be a ssh_config option "DefaultDomain" as in ssh-3.x
from ssh.com.
For the server, there might be a corresponding option in order to strip
the domain name from the remote client name (if it matches the server's
DefaultDomain) for use in auth_rhost2, since netgroups usually contain

SFTP batch mode patch
Hi,
We do a lot of automated file transfers with SFTP, and found this small
patch very helpful. The main effect is to tell the underlying SSH client
that it's operating in batch mode. Patch is against 3.9p1.
Thanks,

[PATCH] Added NoDelay config option and nodelay subsystem option
Hello again!
Since there was some resistance against adding TCP_NODELAY uncontionally,
I've made another patch. The new patch contains the following:
* Added a NoDelay yes/no (default no) config option to ssh and sshd
* Added -oNoDelay=yes to the ssh command line for sftp.
* Changed the sshd subsystem config option syntax from
Subsystem name path
to
Subsystem name options path

Status of SCP vulnerability
Hello,
I would like to request an update of the progress regarding fixes for the recently disclosed SCP vulnerability (CVE-2018-20685, CVE-2019-6111, CVE-2019-6109, CVE-2019-6110)
It has been stated that CVE-2018-20685 has been patched in november but there are currently no information available on the progress of patches regarding the other CVEs.
Will there be a patched release any time soon?

Anti-idle in OpenSSH client?
Heya,
Most of the windows ssh clients (putty, securecrt) have anti-idle
features. They offer either a null packet or protocol no-op or user
defined string to be sent over every x seconds.
Is this possible or planned with the OpenSSH client? Our draconian
firewall admins have started timing out ssh sessions. Yes I'm aware I
could hack up a port forwarding dumb traffic process, but was

Several people have asked that scp support the -1 and -2 options, so I

BUG: scp -q isn't quiet
If I scp from/to a server that has a banner using scp -q, it still
shows the banner. If I ssh -q to the same server, the banner is
skipped. scp -o "LogLevel quiet" does the trick, but is excessively
cumbersome.

ssh-agent asking for passphrase on non-keyed connections
I'm running into some odd behavior that I can't figure out that I'm
hoping someone can help me with. After years of SSH usage, I've
decided to exchange one laziness for another and use ssh-agent.
However I'm running into an odd instance where ssh is asking for the
passphrase to my key stored in ~/.ssh/id_dsa when attempting to connect
to a machine with nothing in

SFTP Status Bar..
This is the LAST version I plan on doing.. If I hear no feed back good
or bad. Then I'll assume I've wasted my time on a feature that people
whine about but don't care to try. This is against 3.0.2pX so it
should be VERY easy for anyone to test.
