Aside: this bug also existed in previous versions of opensshd. My bad for not
reporting it earlier.

Problems/patches for BSD/OS 4.0.1
Two small problems with 2.2.0p1 on BSD/OS 4.0.1, both invoving the
internal entropy collector:
1) The ``ls'' commands in ssh_prng_cmds.in all use -n, which isn't valid
on BSD/OS and thus caused them all to fail when fixprogs checked them.
BSD/OS does, however, have a -T flag which gives complete timestamp
information (month, day, year, hour, minute, and second), which seems
like a

errno 13 == EACCES.
Did you do the "make install" as root? If so did you do it on an NFS filesystem
that maps root -> nobody?

A better solution is to install the pacthes that will support /dev/random and
/dev/urandom. Then recompile openssl and then openssh.
Solaris 8:
112438-01 patch for Sparc
112439-01 patch for x86
Solaris 9:
has standard /dev/random and /dev/urandom
Not sure if one can

Openssh-2.1.0p1 test release
This to announce a test release of 2.1.0p1 before making it widely
available.
This release includes many fixes to problems reported over the last
week. In particular:
- spurious error and coredumps caused by the inbuilt entropy gathering
- RSAref detection
- Compilation fixes for Solaris and others
It also contains (completely untested) support for compiling without
RSA support. This may be

Variable path to ssh_prng_cmds?
Hi there,
I have all my additional software mounted from one central place.
Therefore I'm trying to limit all unnecessary local files.
Local config files are ok... e.g. keys, ssh_config etc, but why
needs ssh_prng_cmds to be in /etc? So why not put it into $bindir?
There are no problems doing this with a few manual fixes. So
are there any security concerns? Is it possible to make this a

One thing that can cause this is if the libc writes to stderr (ie fd
2) on some classes of error. This is something libc should probably
not do, since

Automatic blacklist of IP-addresses.
One feature that I haven't seen in OpenSSH (It may be there) is an
automatic blacklisting of IP addresses when a certain number of login
attempts are reached from that IP address. It seems like it is popular
these days to try brute force access on password cracking and automatic
blacklisting may limit these attempts.
